Ginn (knee) is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans.

After missing out on Jacoby Jones, the Giants are turning their attention to a similar player as they try to upgrade their return game. Ginn won't be cheap, however, He showed well when given opportunities as a wideout last year, giving him extra value to a team like the Panthers or Bucs.

With Steve Smith slowing down and Brandon LaFell heading for free agency as well, the Panthers should make an effort to bring back Ginn.

Ginn's first reception went for 14 yards down the right sideline in the first quarter. He also chipped in a 22-yard punt return early in the second, and a 17-yard catch in the fourth. The bulk of Ginn's yardage came on a meaningless 59-yard reception late in the fourth quarter with the game already wrapped up. One of rookie GM Dave Gettleman's prize 2013 signings, Ginn is now eligible for unrestricted free agency after arguably his best all-around NFL season. He should get a multi-year deal with some guaranteed money.

Ginn, whose raw speed and improved skill set was underutilized by the Panthers all year, finishes the regular season with 36 catches for 566 yards and five touchdowns on a meager 68 targets.

The yards were Ginn's most in nine games, and second most of the season. The return man enters Week 17 with 550 receiving yards, already his highest total since 2008.

He added one carry for 14 yards on the Panthers' first drive of the third quarter. Ginn was a non-factor in the passing game and finished with just one target. He won't be a fantasy option in Week 16 against the Saints.

He was targeted five times in the passing game. Ginn is the Panthers' best deep threat, but hasn't had more than 47 receiving yards since Week 8. He won't be on the fantasy radar even in a plus matchup next week with the Jets.

Ginn displayed some fancy footwork near the sideline on his 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Ginn is good for a weekly deep bomb or two, but it's not a recipe for fantasy reliability. The return specialist posing as a No. 3 receiver is on pace for a 37/625/5 line.

Ginn was atrocious on offense. He saw 10 targets, failing to make anyone miss in the screen game and dropping a bomb from Cam Newton that would have gone for a touchdown. It reminded the Miami fans why they let the No. 9 overall pick in the 2007 draft go. Ginn isn't good enough to be worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues even though the Panthers are trying to manufacture the speedster touches.

It was the biggest catch of the night, though. Ginn caught a short pass near the 15-yard line on the final drive. He made Kyle Arrington miss before breezing past another two defenders on his way to the left pylon for the game-winning score with 59 seconds left on the clock to put the Panthers up 24-20. Ginn has just four catches in his last three games and isn't worth a fantasy roster spot.

Ginn was targeted only three times, making it the third time in four games he drew three of fewer looks. Ginn has been ripping off big plays, but doesn't have the touchdowns or increased snaps to show for it. He remains off the 12-team league radar. With half the season now in the books, Ginn is on pace for 40 catches, 714 yards and four scores, but it's hard to see him reaching that yardage total.

Coach Ron Rivera said Ted Ginn "has been very special for us."

We're finally starting to see Ginn do some of the things he was expected to do when the Dolphins took him ninth overall way back in 2007. Through seven games, he has 20 catches for 357 yards (17.9 YPC) with two touchdowns, with six of those grabs going for 20+ yards. He has another dream matchup in Week 9 as the Panthers will host the Falcons, putting him on the desperation flier radar. But in general, Ginn's boom-or-bust style while sharing the secondary receiver receiver role with Brandon LaFell will lead to fantasy headaches.

With Steve Smith being shadowed by Darrelle Revis, Ginn was surprisingly a big part of the Panthers offense. He led the team in receiving yards and finished behind only Steve Smith with six targets. Ginn would of had an even bigger game, but dropped a wide open pass deep down the right sideline in the second quarter. He now has 20 receptions for 357 yards through seven games.
