Wed Aug 3 201123:15Newman's groin injury could be serious
Clarence Hill of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram suspects LCB Terence Newman could miss the rest of the preseason with a groin injury sustained in Wednesday's practice.
Newman tweeted that he will be back for the Jets game, which suggests he realizes it's more than just a week-to-week injury. Newman, who also dealt with a groin injury in 2008, will go for an MRI on Thursday morning. The Cowboys have to be kicking themselves for counting on the oft-injured Newman to stay healthy while collecting $8 million this season.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora confirms the Cowboys will not release LCB Terence Newman.
Newman's bloated $8 million salary could still be restructured, but he's avoided the grim reaper for now. The Cowboys' secondary upheaval figures to come at safety rather than cornerback.

Mon Jul 25 201112:23Newman won't be cut?
ESPN's John Clayton does not believe the Cowboys will cut LCB Terence Newman.
The Cowboys could save $4 million by releasing Newman, but Clayton says that Jerry Jones "and his people" believe in the embattled corner. Unless they go after the big fish in Nnamdi Asomugha, look for Newman to be back in Dallas.

Thu Jul 7 201110:50Cowboys can save big money with cap cuts
Based on projected salary cap data, the Cowboys will be able to save $4 million in cap space by releasing LCB Terence Newman.
Cutting Marion Barber would save $4.75 million, while RT Marc Colombo would free up $4.5 million in salary and bonuses. Roy Williams is the most obvious candidate for release because he has a salary cap number of $12.9 million. The Cowboys will probably consider cutting Newman only if they land a top free agent corner. Regardless, he is severely, severely overpaid.

Thu Jun 23 201115:52Cowboys counting on Newman in 2011
According to Fox Sports Southwest's Matt Mosley, the Cowboys believe they can get "one more solid season" from CB Terence Newman.
There's also a belief that new coordinator Rob Ryan can get Mike Jenkins to bounce back to Pro Bowl form after a disastrous 2010 season. A Cowboys source tells Mosley that free agent Nnamdi Asomugha is a possibility "only in our dreams." That being the case, Newman's roster spot should be safe for one more year.

Fri May 27 201115:05Terence Newman could lose his roster spot
Cowboys CB Terence Newman would lose his roster spot in Dallas if the team signed free agent Nnamdi Asomugha.
We're not sure Newman's job is secure regardless of an Asomugha signing considering his age (33 before season), salary ($8 million), and recent performance. If the Cowboys lose out on Asomugha to, say, the Eagles, they may still very well sign an Ike Taylor, Carlos Rogers, or Antonio Cromartie. At this point, Newman's chances of being a Cowboy in 2011 are no better than 50:50.

Fri Mar 4 201102:03Report: CB Newman could be salary casualty
Members of the Cowboys' front office reportedly believe it's time to "rid themselves" of LCB Terence Newman.
Newman is entering his age-33 season with an $8M non-guaranteed salary, and in coverage was Pro Football Focus' 93rd-rated corner out of 100 who qualified with enough playing time in 2010. The Cowboys can keep Newman on the roster into the summer, but figure to cut ties if they emerge from the draft with a viable replacement. Patrick Peterson is rumored to be No. 1 on their board.

Sat Feb 5 201115:33Albert Breer: Terence Newman could get cut
NFL Network's Albert Breer suggests Cowboys LCB Terance Newman is not a sure thing to return in 2011.
The veteran still has three years and over $20 million remaining on his contract, including $8 million for 2011. While various injuries led to a more than poor 2010 campaign, he's not a sure thing to rebound and with such an inflated salary it wouldn't be surprising to see him get cut. Look for the Cowboys to focus on upgrading their secondary through the draft with our without Newman onboard.

Mon Nov 8 201011:03Newman still feeling sore
Cowboys LCB Terence Newman said after Sunday's game that his ribs were feeling better but he still had pain from the muscle strain and cartilage tear.
Newman's play has deteriorated the last few weeks while he's tried to play through injury. Since the playoffs aren't a realistic option, the Cowboys would be wise to shut him down for a few weeks so he can fully heal. We're betting, though, that he'll miss more practice time this week but suit up for Week 10.
