Fri Nov 25 201110:22Chargers OLB Phillips resumes practicing
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips (foot) has resumed practicing on a limited basis after missing the past three games.
Phillips could play Sunday depending on his participation in Friday's practice. "I think, not having played, he might be able to play in some of our nickel packages or something like that," coach Norv Turner said. "So we just might try to get some plays out of him -- if he's able to go 15, 20 plays."

Thu Nov 17 201118:36Bolts LB Phillips ditches walking boot
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips (foot) ditched his walking boot on Thursday.
Coach Norv Turner is "hopeful" that Phillips can return to practice soon. A surging Antwan Barnes will likely make at least one more start in Phillips' stead.

Mon Nov 14 201119:38Shaun Phillips remains in walking boot
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips still has a protective boot on his injured foot and remains without a timetable to return.
The Chargers had been targeting Week 11 for Phillips to rejoin the lineup, but it appears that was overly optimistic. In Phillips' absence, Antwan Barnes has been starting opposite Travis LaBoy. Barnes has more than picked up the slack with four sacks and a forced fumble in his last three games.

Sat Oct 29 201116:53Shaun Phillips out for Week 8
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips (foot) has been declared out for Week 8.
You should officially be looking for other options if you were planning to start the Chargers defense this week. San Diego's team leader in sacks with three, Phillips isn't a particularly good bet to return in Week 9 after failing to take the practice field this week.

Fri Oct 28 201121:47Shaun Phillips expected to miss Week 8
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips (foot) is not expected to play on Monday Night Football after missing practice all this week.
Coach Norv Turner conceded he's "not real hopeful" Phillips would be available. The Chargers just lost Larry English to a year-ending foot injury, so they're going to struggle for pass rush against the Chiefs. It's good news for Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe, and bad news for owners of San Diego's fantasy defense. The latter is now essentially off the fantasy radar.

Thu Jul 7 201115:22CBA to lead to a string of extensions?
One prominent player agent believes the next CBA will benefit core players with contracts about to expire as much as current free agents.
A team like the Chargers could devote their resources to extensions for Shaun Phillips, Nick Hardwick, and Antoine Cason rather than paying market prices for Eric Weddle, Kevin Burnett, and Jeromey Clary. The salary cap floor is one of the reasons the Titans and Chris Johnson should be able to find common ground. Young nucleus players are the ideal candidates for lucrative extensions.

Wed Mar 23 201114:01Chargers want to reduce Shaun Phillips' snaps
Chargers coach Norv Turner hopes to reduce OLB Shaun Phillips' snaps in 2011 in order to keep him fresher.
"Last year, Shaun Phillips played way too many snaps because of injury and our circumstances," said Turner. "We didn't have that third guy or that fourth guy that could roll in there." Among 3-4 outside linebackers, only 10 played more snaps than Phillips. Turner is aiming for a rotation, leading to speculation the Chargers will draft another OLB at No. 18 overall.

Tue Jan 25 201118:41Shaun Phillips added to Pro Bowl roster
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster in place of the Chiefs' Tamba Hali.
Hali is reportedly sitting out due to personal reasons, not because of the injuries to both shoulders and one foot. Phillips was arguably the best player on the league's No. 1 defense, racking up 11 sacks to go with seven passes defended and a touchdown.

Sun Oct 10 201008:26Phillips looking for monster game in Week 5
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips has 11.5 career sacks in eight games against Week 5 opponent Oakland.
Phillips earned AFC Defensive Player of the week honors in Week 4, and should post a monster game in Week 5 against the struggling Raiders. San Diego's defense comes in as our 6th best play this week.

Sun Oct 3 201021:06Shaun Phillips racks up four sacks
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips recorded a career-high four sacks in the team's blowout Week 4 win over Arizona.
He finished with six tackles (five solo), chipping in a pick-six for good measure. After the dominant day, Phillips' 2010 sack total stands at six. He's almost single-handedly keeping the Chargers' fantasy defense afloat.
Sat Oct 2 201008:32Troubled linebacker avoids going to trial
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips has reportedly avoided trial after reaching a conditional settlement in his pending assault charge.
The trial was expected to possibly interfere with Phillips' Week 5 preparations, and for now the troubled linebacker can keep his mind on football. Phillips still has another assault charge pending, but is unlikely to face league discipline in either case, as both incidents are only civil suits.

Wed Aug 4 201020:25Shaun Phillips to stand trial on October 4-5
Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips will stand trial on October 4 and 5 to face charges that he punched a security guard in the face in April of 2009.
Phillips' attorneys tried to postpone the trial until after the NFL season, but the courts had none of it. The security guard is seeking payment of his medical expenses and damages. The specific charge is "misdemeanor battery."
