Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain AVM) "most definitely" expects to be ready for OTAs.
Patterson still must get the green light from the Eagles medical staff, so it's not set in stone. Patterson had a tangle of blood vessels removed from his brain after the season, and said the procedure "went great."

Tue Jan 31 201212:54Patterson 'doing pretty good' after operation
Eagles coach Andy Reid revealed Tuesday DT Mike Patterson is "doing pretty good" following his recent brain operation.
Patterson recently had the arteriovenous malformation (a tangle of blood vessels) that caused his August seizure removed. His receovery could take anywhere from one to six months, but he is expected to be ready for camp. Patterson will make $2.1 million in 2012 after tallying 35 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 15 games this season.

Tue Jan 3 201209:20Mike Patterson will have brain surgery soon
Eagles DT Mike Patterson will undergo surgery "in the next couple weeks" to remove the AVM from his brain.
The brain AVM -- a tangle of blood vessels -- was found when Patterson had a training-camp seizure. He still played the entire season, racking up 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in 15 starts. "Usually they say once one seizure happens another one can occur, so I feel real blessed," Patterson said. The recovery can span anywhere from one to six months.

Thu Aug 25 201123:36Patterson returns to game action in style
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain AVM) picked up a sack of Colt McCoy in his return to game action Thursday night.
Not bad for a player three weeks removed from a seizure. The Eagles' front-seven dominated the line of scrimmage while shutting out the Browns offense for the entire first half. Philly's defensive line play is looking up.

Wed Aug 24 201108:03Patterson to play Thursday
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain AVM) will play in Thursday's preseason game against the Browns.
Patterson returned to practice on Saturday and has suffered no setbacks. It's an amazingly fast recovery for someone that suffered a frightening seizure on August 3. He's taking anti-seizure medicine and figures to play a couple series with the second unit.

Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain AVM) returned to practice on Saturday.
According to head trainer Rick Burkholder, Patterson was cleared to resume practicing by four AVM specialists as well as a seizure specialist. Patterson should now have plenty of time to get in shape for the Eagles' September 11 opener after his scary August 3 collapse.

Fri Aug 12 201114:04Mike Patterson brain AVM is not career-ender
Citing a league source, the Wilmington News Journal reports that Eagles DT Mike Patterson's arteriovenous malformation in his brain is not a career-threatening condition.
Beat writer Geoff Mosher confirms that the brain AVM is treatable, and Patterson "will play this year," though it's unclear when. Patterson has practiced in camp, so he is ineligible to begin the season on the reserve/PUP list. Mosher says he'll have more information about Patterson's condition by next week.

Fri Aug 5 201117:35Eagles optimistic DT Patterson returns soon
The Eagles are optimistic that DT Mike Patterson (brain AVM) can resume practicing in 3-4 days.
Patterson is already out of the hospital after a four-minute seizure earlier in the week, and he's set to rejoin Eagles camp in the very near future. "Patterson is scheduled to see a neurologist in Philadelphia in the next day or so," said the defensive tackle's agent. "We anticipate that he will be cleared to resume normal team activities within a few days."

Thu Aug 4 201108:47Mike Patterson has a brain AVM
Mike Patterson has brain AVM (arteriovenous malformation) and will require surgery or radiation, according to ESPN.
Patterson apparently wasn't suffering from dehydration after all. AVM is a tangle of the blood vessels in the skull and recovery times depend on the severity. Pacers PG A.J. Price had the same condition. The Eagles can't count on having Patterson on the field anytime soon.

Eagles trainer Rick Birkholder confirms DT Mike Patterson (dehydration) is in "very stable" condition Wednesday afternoon.
"He's very asymptomatic right now," said Birkholder, adding that Patterson already wants to return to training camp. He's expected to spend the night in the hospital as a precaution. There is not yet a timetable for his return.

Wed Aug 3 201110:33Mike Patterson says he is fine
Mike Patterson is being treated for dehydration, a source tells beat writer Les Bowen.
It sounds like we can exhale. Patterson broke into a seizure for four minutes at Wednesday morning's practice, lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital via an ambulance. But ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio is reporting that the defensive tackle is already sending text messages from the hospital saying that he is fine. Patterson will remain hospitalized as he undergoes tests.

Wed Aug 3 201109:53Patterson leaves camp in an ambulance
Eagles DT Mike Patterson went into convulsions during Wednesday morning's practice and ended up leaving the field in an ambulance.
Scary scene by all accounts at Lehigh University. Patterson was able to move his extremities, but his neck was stabilized as his teammates circled around. It's unclear if this was contact-related. We'll know more when coach Andy Reid addresses the media.

Fri Feb 11 201111:13Eagles: DT Patterson will not be a free agent
An Eagles spokesman refuted a report by the Washington Post's J.I. Halsell that DT Mike Patterson's contract will void, making him a free agent this offseason.
The Eagles insist that Patterson remains under contract through 2016. Halsell's report had Patterson's free agency connected to the lack of a CBA, so the player and the team may not be on the same page. There's plenty of fog here, though the Eagles ought to be more familiar with the ins and outs of Patterson's contract than a third-party outsider.

Fri Feb 11 201108:36Report: Eagles DT Patterson now a free agent
According to salary cap expert J.I. Halsell of the Washington Post, Eagles DT Mike Patterson is set to become an unrestricted free agent after his contract voided.
Patterson signed an eight-year extension back in 2006, but the 2011-2016 seasons will void because 2011 is not a capped year. Per Mac's Football Blog, Patterson was due at least $27 million over the next six years. As the key to Philly's run defense, Patterson would have plenty of suitors as a free agent. If the Eagles want to keep him, they may need to apply the transition tag (with the franchise tag going to Michael Vick).

Wed Feb 2 201119:23Castillo promises attack-based defense
Eagles OL coach-turned-defensive coordinator Juan Castillo promises to keep an "attack"-based defense in place.
At his introductory press conference Wednesday, Castillo called himself "a defensive guy that's gotten stuck on the offensive side." Added Castillo, "(DL coach) Jim Washburn was brought here to get our defensive line up the field. We're going to be fast, physical and fundamentally sound and be the best defense in the NFL." Assuming Castillo's transition goes smoothly, the Eagles have the makings of one of the league's most impressive staffs.

Fri Dec 24 201012:25Eagles DT Patterson returns to practice
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (knee) returned to a limited practice Thursday.
The Eagles never disclosed the results of Patterson's early-week MRI. The news couldn't have been too bad, and it's clear that he's avoided a season-ending injury. Patterson is among Philly's most valuable defenders.

Mon Dec 20 201012:15Patterson headed for MRI on knee
Eagles DT Mike Patterson is headed for an MRI on his sore knee.
The Eagles simply can not afford to lose Patterson for any significant period of time. The former first-round pick has been an underrated force in the middle along with Brodrick Bunkley, holding together a shaky defense.
