Vick completed 8-of-19 passes for 47 yards in relief of Geno Smith during Sunday's 31-0 loss at San Diego. He had two carries for 14 yards.
Vick had just as much trouble as Smith, who threw for only 27 yards in the first half. Vick did throw an apparent touchdown late in the game, but he stepped over the line of scrimmage for a penalty. Coach Rex Ryan said after the game that Smith would remain the Jets' starter, so for now, expect Vick to head back to the bench.

Vick replaced starter Geno Smith to open the second half of Sunday's game against the Chargers.
With the Jets down 21-0 and Smith having completed just 4-of-12 passes for 27 yards and a pick, the team's offense will turn to Vick for a spark. It remains to be seen if the QB change will stick, though clearly what Vick does for the remainder of Sunday's game will be a key factor in the that call, in advance of next Sunday's game against the Broncos.
Fri Sep 19 201421:00Vick has played in five snaps through two games
Vick has played in five snaps through two games, netting zero yards on those plays, Rich Cimimi of ESPN New York reports.
With Geno Smith off to a good start, you wouldn't blame the Jets if they kept Vick in the understudy role and let the side-package fall away. But you know the Jets - they love their tinkering. For what it's worth, Vick narrowly missed a touchdown pass in Week 1, misfiring to an open Eric Decker in the end zone.

Vick, as expected, lost the starting quarterback competition to Geno Smith, coach Rex Ryan announced Friday.
It was Smith's job to lose all along, and Vick never really made it a battle. Ryan made the announcement after the team's third exhibition game Friday in which Vick went 4-of-5 for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Vick completed 3-of-6 passes for 17 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts, adding 19 yards on three carries.
Vick played two drives, one with the starters and one with the second team. His first drive ended with a touchdown, but he was facing backups and largely aided by a pair of 15-yard penalties. If Vick's going to make a case to overtake Geno Smith, he'll need a larger sample size to work with. Smith probably just needs to avoid embarrassing himself in order to hold on to the starting job.
Wed Aug 6 201414:33The Jets are unlikely to use Vick as change-of-pace quarterback
The Jets are unlikely to use Vick as a change-of-pace quarterback, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.
We're going on Cimini's gut-feel here, not a specific quote from Rex Ryan, but given how dialed-in Cimini is with the Jets, you can take it to the bank. In other words, it appears the Jets actually learned something from the Tim Tebow fiasco. It's good news for Geno Smith, who doesn't need to look over his shoulder.
Thu Jul 24 201412:27Michael Vick gets just four first-team reps
Michael Vick got just four first-team reps as Jets camp opened, compared to 13 for Geno Smith.
As expected, the starting job is clearly Smith's to lose. "I think that's already been addressed as far as who the starter is. There's no more speculation about that," Vick said Wednesday.

Fri Jun 20 201415:37Michael Vick named a 'dud' at Jets minicamp
The Newark Star-Ledger lists Michael Vick as one of the "duds" at Jets minicamp.
Jets OG Willie Colon, who is injured, and third-string QB Matt Simms were listed as the other "duds." Per beat writer Frances Micklow, Vick "still has the arm and athleticism, but seemed to struggle at times" in non-contact practices. Geno Smith has built a relatively comfortable leading entering training camp. Vick could still pay off for the Jets as a willing mentor to Smith.

Wed May 28 201414:18Rex reiterates the Jets have a QB competition
Coach Rex Ryan reiterated that there is a competition for the Jets' starting quarterback job.
"There is competition, there's no doubt," Ryan said following Wednesday's OTA session. This comes two days after Michael Vick insisted he doesn't see the job as an open competition. After Ryan spoke on Wednesday, the media spoke again with Vick. Vick went on to say, "Nah, it's not an open competition." The coach and player are clearly not on the same page. Vick was likely told the job is Geno Smith's to lose upon signing. But if Vick looks better during training camp and preseason, we'd think he'd get the nod under center come Week 1.

Thu May 15 201414:49Rex: Vick 'definitely' has shot at starting
Speaking in a Thursday radio interview, coach Rex Ryan said Michael Vick "definitely" has a chance to win the Jets' starting job.
However, Ryan added that Geno Smith is "going to be hard to beat out." That's mostly just coachspeak - the Jets wouldn't have signed Vick were dying to keep Smith under center - but Ryan and the team's brain trust have made it clear Smith is the No. 1 until Vick proves otherwise. Smith can keep his job with a strong camp and preseason. Vick proved to be a willing mentor for Nick Foles in Philadelphia, so Gang Green won't be afraid to keep him on the bench.

Sat May 3 201418:44Michael Vick says Geno Smith is the starter
Michael Vick conceded that he's currently behind Geno Smith for the Jets' starting quarterback job.
"Geno's the starting quarterback," Vick said. "Our goal is to try to help Geno become the best he can be. Myself and [third-stringer Matt Simms] are all trying to put him in a position where he can get better from year one to year two." Despite Vick's comments, OC Marty Mornhinweg insists that the quarterback spot is open for competition. Geno is ahead of Vick at this point in the offseason, but the Jets won't hesitate to make a change if he struggles.

Wed Apr 30 201422:44Mornhinweg insists Vick in the mix to start
Although Geno Smith is handling first-team offseason reps, Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg insists Michael Vick will be very involved in the competition.
The Jets aren't paying Vick chump change -- he's collecting $4 million in 2014 with another $1 million available through incentives -- and he'll enter training camp squarely in the hunt to be New York's Opening Day starter. "He's 33 years old and he's still got it," Mornhinweg said of Vick. "I look at him as a young 33; he's still got it. He's going to compete hard, he's going to push, he's going to make Geno and the rest of the quarterbacks the very best they can be. When he's called upon to play, I've got great confidence in Mike."

Tue Mar 25 201422:07Michael Vick: I'm still a legitimate starter
Michael Vick still considers himself a "legitimate starting quarterback in this league."
"I feel like I can compete with the best of them," Vick said Tuesday. "I feel like I can win football games." Vick's play and health have both steadily eroded in recent years, but he likely still has the edge on Geno Smith. If he doesn't, Vick proved with Nick Foles that he's able and willing to mentor a young teammate.

Wed Mar 19 201409:56Report: Mike Vick to visit Jets this weekend
A source tells NJ.com that free agent QB Michael Vick will visit the Jets this weekend.
This will be Vick's first official visit of free agency. Reports out of New York have consistently maintained that he is the Jets' top choice at quarterback, as they want him to provide both mentoring and competition for Geno Smith. Vick had arguably the best year of his career with the Eagles in 2010 under offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who now holds the same position with the Jets. Even at age 34, Vick would be a heavy favorite to beat out Smith in an open camp battle.

Wed Mar 19 201409:17Michael Vick getting closer to decision?
According to ProFootballTalk, there are "indications" free agent Michael Vick could be moving toward a decision.
It was originally suspected that Vick would wait until after the draft so he could assess the quarterback landscape and choose a destination that would fulfill his desire to be a starter. But after watching Matt Cassel, Chad Henne and Josh McCown get deals, options are drying up. PFT suggests the Raiders, Texans, Browns, Jets, Bills and Titans as possible suitors.

Thu Mar 13 201409:38Report: Michael Vick is still Jets top choice
According to the New York Post, free agent Michael Vick remains the Jets top choice at quarterback.
With Josh McCown off the market, Vick is clearly the Jets top choice. But they want someone to come in as Geno Smith's backup and only take over if he falters. Vick, on the other hand, wants a legit chance to start. He's going to take his time, possibly until after May's draft, to see how the quarterback landscape shakes out. The Raiders remain an option.

Tue Mar 11 201421:23Report: Roadblock between Michael Vick, Jets
According to the NFL Network, talks between the Jets and free agent Michael Vick have hit a "roadblock."
The roadblock is reportedly Vick wanting a starting job. That's interesting, because it suggests either the Jets have a stronger commitment to Geno Smith than they've let on, or Vick doesn't want to fight for snaps. If Vick thinks he's going to be handed a starting gig at this point in his career without competing for it, he's kidding himself. Reporter Kim Jones says the two sides could revisit a deal in the future. Right now, Vick's best landing spot looks like the rudderless Raiders.

Tue Mar 11 201417:22Jets have 'definite interest' in Michael Vick
Sources tell ESPN New York that the Jets have "definite interest" in free agent Michael Vick.
The Jets continue to look like the most logical landing spot for Vick. He flourished under current OC Marty Mornhinweg in Philly and the Jets are searching for competition -- as well as a mentor -- for Geno Smith. Vick's clear-cut paths to starting jobs are drying up with the Vikings and Jaguars re-signing Matt Cassel and Chad Henne, respectively.
