Mon Aug 24 201517:01Chris Johnson: (Hamstring) Day-To-Day
Johnson (hamstring) has been upgraded to day-to-day, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.
Johnson was ruled out for Saturday's game against the Chargers prior to kickoff, and afterward, head coach Bruce Arians revealed that a sore hamstring would keep the veteran running back sidelined for 1-to-2 weeks. However, a day off Sunday has done Johnson's body good, meaning he could fit in some drills in the near future. For the time being, though, it's likely a stretch that he'll be able to play Sunday in Oakland, which would give David Johnson further opportunity to stake a claim to the backup RB job behind Andre Ellington.
Sun Aug 23 201502:17Chris Johnson: (Hamstirng) Out 1-2 Weeks
Johnson will miss one to two weeks with a sore hamstring, head coach Bruce Arians told ESPN.
Johnson hurt his hamstring in practice Thursday and did not play in Saturday's preseason game. We'll see how Johnson's hamstring responds the next week, but he's in danger of missing the entire preseason and perhaps the first game of the regular season as a result. Johnson's injury could open the door for David Johnson to win the backup role to Andre Ellington.
Sat Aug 22 201522:02Chris Johnson: Dealing With Hamstring Injury
Johnson will miss Saturday's game versus the Chargers due to a hamstring injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Thus, the wrap on Johnson's upper right leg at Thursday's practice has an accompanying ailment, joining his backfield mates with the RB injury of training camp. With his Cardinals debut delayed, Andre Ellington will have the first-team reps unimpeded, while David Johnson should receive most the work in the second and third quarters.
Sat Aug 22 201521:04Chris Johnson: Out Saturday
Johnson isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Chargers, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.
Although the Cardinals haven't referenced an injury as the result of Johnson's absence, he was seen with his upper right leg wrapped at Thursday's practice, according to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site. While Johnson's Cardinals debut will have to wait, Andre Ellington will work the first quarter, after which rookie David Johnson will handle the bulk of the second and third quarters.

Head coach Bruce Arians wants Johnson to receive 5-to-6 carries in Saturday's preseason game versus the Chargers, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Inked just Monday, Johnson has apparently showed well in his brief practice time with the Cardinals, but Arians would like to avoid a scenario in which the veteran running back misses "a blitz pickup that he's unsure of and the quarterback gets hit because he's still learning our system." As a result, Johnson likely won't be unleashed as both a rusher and pass-catcher until the third or perhaps fourth exhibition.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told Johnson that he isn't assured of a roster spot, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.
According to the Cardinals' official website, Johnson signed a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum with $400,000 guaranteed. Head coach Bruce Arians suggested that Johnson will have to earn his roster spot, but Arians also didn't rule out the possibility of the veteran overtaking Andre Ellington as the starter. Realistically, Johnson probably has no shot to overtake a healthy Ellington, but he does seem like a good bet to earn a backup role. The competition for backup touches also includes David Johnson, Kerwynn Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Robert Hughes.
Mon Aug 17 201518:20Chris Johnson: Signs One-Year Deal with Cardinals
Johnson has agreed to a one-year contract with the Cardinals, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports.
After passing a physical on Monday afternoon, the waiting game was on for Cardinals general manager Steve Keim and Johnson's agent to reach an agreement. Upon his arrival, Johnson will bolster a wavering backfield behind starter Andre Ellington, though rookie RB David Johnson's first appearance of training camp was delayed until Monday due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain. In any case, Johnson will commence learning head coach Bruce Arians' scheme, in which he'll act as a veteran version of Ellington.

Coach Bruce Arians indicated Monday that Johnson completed a physical with the Cardinals, though whether or not the running back signs with the team has yet to be determined, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.
Perhaps lessening the urgency to sign the veteran back is that rookie David Johnson returned to a limited practice on Monday. Either way, Chris Johnson remains unsigned, though he clearly remains on the Cards' radar at this time.
Tue Aug 11 201510:27Johnson recently offered one-year contract by Cardinals
Johnson was recently offered a one-year contract by the Cardinals, according to ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini
The Cardinals are dealing with a slew of training camp injuries at running back, but with none of the issues believed to be overly serious, Johnson would likely have to fight for a roster spot. Given that Andre Ellington and David Johnson are both locks for the final roster, (Chris) Johnson would likely be battling with Kerwynn Williams, Stepfan Taylor, Robert Hughes and Marion Grice for one or two roster spots. Johnson may opt to wait for a more favorable situation.
Wed May 6 201512:07Following NFL draft, Johnson remains free agent
Following the NFL draft, Johnson remains a free agent.
For now, there doesn't seem to be much free agent interest in Johnson, who was let go by the Jets in February, though the Dallas Morning News relays that Johnson himself suggests that he might be a good fit for the Cowboys, who did not draft a running back despite losing DeMarco Murray in free agency. Per NFL.com, Johnson, who sustained a gun shot wound to his shoulder during a March 8 incident in Florida, has resumed working out and doesn't appear to be exhibiting any lingering effects from the injury. At this stage, the Cowboys suggest that they are comfortable with their current backfield corps, but Johnson could draw some interest as the offseason progresses, once running back injuries mount.
Mon Mar 9 201516:54Johnson Fla
Johnson, who was shot in the shoulder while he was a passenger in a vehicle that was fired upon early Sunday morning in Orlando, Fla., was released from the hospital on Monday, the Tennessean reports.
The report relays via Johnson's publicist, EAGSportsManagement, that the running back is expected "to make a quick and full recovery and is looking forward to being back out on the field training as soon as possible." Johnson is scheduled to become a free agent on Tuesday after the Jets declined to pick up his contract option last month.
Sun Mar 8 201514:10Johnson recovering at Orlando
Johnson is recovering at an Orlando, Florida hospital after being shot in the shoulder while he was a passenger in a vehicle that was fired upon early Sunday morning, NFL.com reports.
The report indicates that Johnson was described as being in stable condition following the incident, which reportedly injured another passenger and claimed the life of the driver of the vehicle. Johnson, who spent the 2014 NFL season with the Jets, is slated to become a free agent Tuesday, after the team declined his contract option in February.
Sat Feb 14 201514:31Chris Johnson: Jets Decline Contract Option
The Jets declined the second-year option on Johnson's contract, making him a free agent, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports.
Johnson underwhelmed in his lone season with the Jets, running for just 663 yards (4.3 YPC) and one touchdown while catching 24 passes for 151 yards and a score. He'll turn 30 in September and is nowhere near the player he used to be, but he ought to find work of some sort if he looks for it. With that said, Johnson's chances of earning much in the way of pay or playing time don't seem good. There's a big surplus of running back talent in both the draft and free agency. Among several other notables, all of DeMarco Murray, Justin Forsett, Ryan Mathews, Roy Helu, Mark Ingram, Knowshon Moreno, Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen are also free agents.
Sat Jan 10 201513:48Chris Johnson: Arrested in Orlando on Friday
Johnson was arrested in Orlando on Friday for opening carrying of a firearm, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports.
The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor. The exact scenario behind Johnson's arrest isn't yet clear, and the Jets have yet to comment on the situation. Assuming he doesn't have any other recent disciplinary infractions with the league, the charge doesn't appear to be the sort of thing to cause a big impact in itself. It might cast a slight bit of uncertainty regarding his standing in an organization that figures to see some turnover this offseason, though. Johnson has one year left on the two-year deal he signed with the Jets in April of 2014, so the team has no long-term investment in him.

Johnson (knee) had 10 carries for 20 rushing yards and one catch on two targets for minus-3 receiving yards during Sunday's 37-24 win over the Dolphins.
Johnson's season concludes with just 663 rushing yards this season, the first of his career without reaching the 1,000-yard mark. He scored only one touchdown this year while constantly splitting time with Chris Ivory, both of whom have one year left on their contracts with the Jets. It's unclear if they'll keep them both, but their fantasy upsides will continue to be limited if they both stick around.

Johnson (knee) had 10 carries for 30 rushing yards and one catch on one target for three receiving yards during Sunday's loss to the Patriots.
Johnson finished with one fewer carry than Chris Ivory, though the latter gained 53 yards versus Johnson's 30. Johnson's streak of games without a touchdown has now reached 11, and he has only one game this season with more than 70 rushing yards. He'll continue to split carries with Ivory, though the two could be heavily used in Week 17 against the Dolphins, who are allowing the third-fewest passing yards per game this season, but allow the 11th-most rushing yards per contest.
Sun Dec 14 201421:24Johnson had 10 carries for 55 yards in Sunday's win at Tennessee
Johnson had 10 carries for 55 yards in Sunday's win at Tennessee. He was targeted just once as a pass catcher, failing to record a reception.
Outside of a 37-yard run out of the Wildcat formation, Johnson was held in check against his former team. He did outperform Chris Ivory, who had 12 carries for just 25 yards, although Ivory was the one that scored. Johnson has run better lately, but considering he's not catching passes and Ivory is the goal-line back, his upside is capped. Next week, Johnson will get the Patriots.

Johnson (knee) had 16 carries for 53 rushing yards and two catches on two targets for 13 receiving yards in Sunday's overtime loss to the Vikings.
Johnson finished with the same number of carries as Chris Ivory, though the latter accumulated 20 more yards. The two have split the touches fairly evenly over the past few games, and that doesn't figure to change much in Week 15 against a Titans defense allowing the most rushing yards per game in the NFL this season. However, Johnson may have a little more going for him, as he spent the first six years of his career in Tennessee before they let him go after last season.

Johnson gained 105 yards on 17 carries in Monday's 16-13 loss to the Dolphins.
Chris Ivory had 16 carries for 62 yards, with Bilal Powell chipping in for four yards on two totes. Wide receivers Jeremy Kerley, Percy Harvin and Greg Salas were also active in the running game, combining for 85 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Meanwhile, Geno Smith attempted just 13 passes, with five of those coming on the game's final drive. As for Johnson, the veteran running back ripped off a season-long 47-yard run in the first quarter, but he was mostly contained for the rest of the night.

Johnson (knee) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Dolphins.
Johnson is available if you need him Monday, but as long as he is part of a time-share with Chris Ivory, his fantasy reliability is capped.
