Fri May 23 201413:48Troy Polamalu, 33, entering final NFL season?
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's "best guess" is 2014 will be SS Troy Polamalu's final NFL season.
It's an interesting projection after the Steelers signed Polamalu to a new three-year, $20 million contract in March, though that same deal considerably lowered his salary cap number. Polamalu is under contract for 2015 and 2016 at reasonable base salaries of $6 million and $5.75 million, respectively. Now 33 years old, Polamalu finished 2013 as a top-five safety per Pro Football Focus.

Sun Feb 16 201413:55Steelers want Polamalu to retire with team
Owner Art Rooney II has made it his "goal" to ensure SS Troy Polamalu retires as a Steeler.
Pittsburgh could save $8 million under the salary cap by releasing Polamalu, but Rooney's comments indicate that won't even be a consideration, for better or worse. Polamalu turns 33 in April and has an $8.25 million base salary. He's increasingly become a deficient coverage safety. Polamalu did play a full 16-game season in 2013, forcing seven turnovers with a 19-yard pick six.

Sun Dec 29 201312:02Troy Polamalu has no intention of retiring
Troy Polamalu is hoping to honor his 2014 contract with the Steelers.
Coming off his a surprisingly healthy season that saw the 32-year-old play in all 16 games, Polamalu will not be retiring. The issue is his non-guaranteed $8.25 million 2014 salary and the Steelers' messy cap situation. It's possible the future Hall of Famer will be asked to take a pay cut even though he's graded out as a top-six safety among 88 qualifiers per Pro Football Focus. If Polamalu refuses, the Steelers will have a decision on their hands. Last year, they let Jerome Harrison walk after he balked at a pay cut.
