Sat Sep 4 201018:18Report: Bengals dealing for Reggie Nelson
The Bengals will reportedly trade CB David Jones to the Jaguars for safety Reggie Nelson.
Former first round pick? Check. Flamed out with his original team? Check. Questionable commitment or attitude issues? Check. Yep, Nelson is Bengals owner Mike Brown's kind of player. He was also arguably the worst starting free safety in the league last season. Nelson would fill Gabril Wilson's (ACL tear) reserve role in Cincy.

Sun Aug 8 201010:38Jaguars two safety positions "wide open"
Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio declared the competition at the two safety spots as "wide open."
We like Reggie Nelson to emerge as the starter at FS, while the SS starter looks to be determined in the preseason, with Gerald Alexander battling Sean Considine. Regardless of who wins, things don't look pretty in Jacksonville. Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub will have a field day playing the Jags twice, and other opposing QBs should be upgraded accordingly.

Fri May 21 201011:26Nelson backs off threats
Reggie Nelson backed off claims that he wasn't going to play corner or nickel back again this season, now saying "I'll do whatever the coaching staff says."
There ya go, Reggie. Guys that were benched last season and toasted repeatedly don't get to demand where they play. Nelson should just be happy that he has a chance for playing time again this year after the Jags whiffed at upgrading their secondary in the offseason.

Tue May 4 201010:03Darren Sharper was offered more from Jags
The Jaguars reportedly offered Darren Sharper a more lucrative offer than the Saints before Sharper re-signed with New Orleans on Monday.
It says little for incumbent FS Reggie Nelson that to replace him, the Jags were willing to overpay a 34-year-old coming off microfracture surgery. According to Jaguars.com's Vic Ketchman, the team struggled to defend passes "in the middle of the field in mini-camp." Aside from undrafted FAs, the Jags haven't made a single noteworthy upgrade at defensive back this offseason.

Mon May 3 201010:52Nelson says he won't play corner
Jaguars FS Reggie Nelson says he won't play corner or nickel back this season.
Nelson struggled badly last season and would likely be on the chopping block if the Jags are able to add any veteran safety help. So Nelson appears to be digging his own grave with these comments about playing different positions: "I will not do it. I tried that last year. It didn't work. I don't think it was fair to me. I would not go back. You live and you lean."

Mon Apr 19 201009:58Nelson's job in trouble?
If FS Reggie Nelson's play doesn't improve this season, it could be his last with the Jaguars according to beat writer Michael C. Wright.
Nelson, the Jags' first-round pick in 2007, found himself benched last season in favor of Anthony Smith. Nelson has been a major liability in the secondary in both coverage and run support and he's far from guaranteed a starting job this year. Nelson's rookie contract is up after the 2011 season.
