We like Reggie Nelson to emerge as the starter at FS, while the SS starter looks to be determined in the preseason, with Gerald Alexander battling Sean Considine. Regardless of who wins, things don't look pretty in Jacksonville. There ya go, Reggie. Guys that were benched last season and toasted repeatedly don't get to demand where they play. Nelson should just be happy that he has a chance for playing time again this year after the Jags whiffed at upgrading their secondary in the offseason. | ||||||

It says little for incumbent FS Reggie Nelson that to replace him, the Jags were willing to overpay a 34-year-old coming off microfracture surgery. According to Jaguars.com's Vic Ketchman, the team struggled to defend passes "in the middle of the field in mini-camp." Aside from undrafted FAs, the Jags haven't made a single noteworthy upgrade at defensive back this offseason. | ||||||

Nelson struggled badly last season and would likely be on the chopping block if the Jags are able to add any veteran safety help. So Nelson appears to be digging his own grave with these comments about playing different positions: "I will not do it. I tried that last year. It didn't work. I don't think it was fair to me. I would not go back. You live and you lean." | ||||||
