Bush did not play in the 49ers' second preseason game against the Cowboys on Sunday.

There is no injury to report here, Jim Tomsula made his intentions of resting the veteran running back during the preseason clear early on. There is a chance Bush sees game action Saturday in Denver, as teams generally treat week 3 as a pseudo regular season game and showcase their true starters. Bush is expected to backup Carlos Hyde and be on the field during passing downs.

Bush is not slated to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Per the report, the veteran running back will be rested Saturday, with coach Jim Tomsula indicating that at this stage he knows enough about what Bush brings to the table. On the 49ers' current unofficial depth chart, Bush is listed as the team's No. 2 running back behind Carlos Hyde, though in any case, we'd expect Bush to see his share of snaps in the team's offense this coming season, in particular in passing situations.

Bush was the first running back to go through drills at practice on Wednesday, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.

Bush is likely getting the first reps because of his veteran status, and running backs coach Tom Rathman reportedly uses Bush as an example for the younger runners on the team. Despite this, it is believed that promising second-year back Carlos Hyde will take over the first-team duties by the time the season starts, with Bush serving a complementary role in the offense.

Bush could be in the mix for returning punts this season, CSN Bay Area reports.

Per his request, Bush has been fielding punts during the 49ers' OTAs. He hasn't returned a kick since 2011, but feels that he hasn't skipped a beat. Bush has four career return touchdowns and would see a slight increase in value for those in return yardage leagues.

Bush agreed to contract terms with the 49ers on Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Bush presumably didn't cost much given his age (30), injury history, and poor 2014 campaign in Detroit, and his role in San Francisco figures to be that of a change-of-pace back behind 2014 second-round pick Carlos Hyde, and perhaps Kendall Hunter, too. Despite his name recognition, Bush doesn't seem likely to establish much fantasy value in 2015.

The Lions have released Bush, the team's official site reports.

Releasing Bush frees up some added cash to aid in the team's hoped-for re-signing of DT Ndamukong Suh. Bush will look to catch on elsewhere, presumably as a change-of-pace option, while the Lions will move forward with a backfield headed by Joique Bell, with Theo Riddick on hand to absorb some of Bush's previous duties, especially as a pass-catcher. George Winn is also under contract with Detroit, with the team also likely to consider adding a running back in the upcoming NFL draft.

Bush had eight carries for 37 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions for 10 yards on five targets, in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Cowboys.

Bush flashed his speed on an 18-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but he otherwise had a pretty quiet game. Joique Bell had 85 scrimmage yards on 16 touches (four cathces), with Theo Riddick contributing 39 yards on four receptions. While all three running backs are signed for 2015, Bush could end up as cap casualty, now that Riddick seems capable of filling a pass-catching role.

Bush had five carries for 19 yards and caught 3-of-6 targets for 22 yards in Sunday's loss at Green Bay.

Other than a 14-yard run at one point, Bush was quiet, as Joique Bell and Theo Riddick were more effective, although Riddick's production came late in the fourth quarter. Even still, Bush doesn't appear to have much of a burst, at least to the naked eye, which could mean his previous ankle injury is still a factor. If you're participating in a playoff league, Bush will play this weekend at Dallas, but it's hard to get excited about him, with Bell seeing most of the work in the team's backfield.

Bush had seven carries for 54 rushing yards and a touchdown, as well as six catches on seven targets for 44 receiving yards during Sunday's win over the Bears.

Joique Bell was benched for the first quarter of the game, which gave Bush early opportunities, and he took advantage with a 13-yard touchdown in the opening quarter. However, Bell finished the game with almost double the carries (13 to seven), while Bush did most of his work on passing downs. Up next is a Week 17 matchup against the Packers, with the winner taking home the NFC North title. Bush had 99 total yards and a touchdown against Green Bay back in Week 3.

Bush (ankle) had three carries for seven yards and caught 1-of-2 targets for 10 yards.

Bush saw less work than last week, as he continues to deal with a lingering ankle injury. Meanwhile, Joique Bell once again led the Lions' backfield in touches, gaining 62 yards on 15 carries, while also catching 4-of-6 targets for 41 yards. Bush will have a favorable matchup in Week 16 at Chicago, but it's hard to trust him, given that he's not fully recovered from his ankle issue.

Bush (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Joique Bell remains the lead back in Detroit, but Bush's 12 touches last week were his most since Week 4, and he was a frequent target in the passing game. Still, he didn't do much with his opportunities, and it is hard to rely on him given the ankle injury and the lack of production.

Bush (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against Minnesota.

Bush's remarkably persistent ankle issue just won't go away, as he was held to two limited practice appearances this week after struggling his way to just 34 yards from scrimmage against the Buccaneers on Sunday. It's just not easy to have faith in Bush's fantasy viability at the moment.

In his return to practice, Bush had some restrictions in his activity, but his mere presence raises the hope that he'll suit up Sunday against the Vikings. While his status may clear up by week's end, the Lions' backfield is populated by Joique Bell, who has averaged 20 rushes and 2.7 catches per game over the last three contests. Consequently, Bush will likely play second fiddle to Bell for the second week in a row.

A sprained ankle forced an absence from drills Wednesday, but Bush's presence in any capacity forecasts active status for Sunday's game against the Vikings. Meanwhile, his backfield mate, Joique Bell, has played the part of a workhorse back over the past three games, averaging 20 carries and 2.7 receptions per outing. Consequently, even if Bush takes the field in Week 15, his snaps could cap his touches to the 12, including eight carries, received this past Sunday against the Buccaneers.

In his return to action from a three-game absence Sunday, Bush managed 12 touches, which was nearly doubled by Joique Bell's 23. While Bush remains the starting running back, when active, the Lions appear to be managing his reps with a watchful eye in order to avoid a setback. In any case, owners should watch his status closely as the weekend approaches.

Bush (ankle/back) remains atop the Lions' depth chart at the running back position, Justin Rogers of MLive.com reports.

Fellow running back Joique Bell was on the field for the first snap last week and received the bulk of the work in the Lions' backfield, but it appears the Lions were simply easing Bush back into action after a month off. Bush received 12 touches last Sunday, and with a game under his belt, that number could increase this week.

Bush (ankle/back) had eight carries for 26 yards and four catches for eight yards in Sunday's 34-17 win over the Buccaners.

Bush had 12 touches in his first action since Week 10, but he wasn't able to do much with his opportunities. His lack of success was even more apparent when compared with backfield mate Joique Bell, who had 133 total yards and two touchdowns on 23 touches. Bush may start to get more opportunities as he gets his game legs back, but he seems to be firmly behind Bell in the pecking order at running back.

Bush (ankle/back) is active for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Active for the first time since Week 10, Bush is expected to start at running back, but his potential is capped due to the presence of Joique Bell. Bush will aim to bust out of his timeshare against a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed 4.1 YPC and three rushing touchdowns to running backs over the last four contests.

Bush (ankle) is probable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

It's hard to buy in to Bush as much more than a flex-type of play in PPR formats given the rust potential after missing five of the last seven games, but he practiced fully all week and appears to be truly healthy going into Sunday. Despite his steadiness, Joique Bell has been a bit sluggish as a runner, so Bush could earn a prominent role once again if he performs adequately. His return figures to primarily harm Theo Riddick's fantasy value, however.

Head coach Jim Caldwell said Friday morning that Bush (ankle) "feels really good."

Bush is on track to return to action this week after practicing fully the last two days, and Caldwell's comments indicate he should be at or near 100 percent. Caldwell said Thursday that Bush would reclaim the starting running back job when healthy, so it's looking likely Bush will be on the field for the Lions' first possession Sunday against the Buccaneers.
