Fri May 24 201312:22Rodger Saffold at peace with position switch
Rams OT Rodger Saffold has accepted his move to right tackle.
"This game is a business; that's just the way it is," Saffold said. "I talked to my coach and basically they told me that they had a lot of faith in me to play right tackle and try to use my versatility as an advantage for the team." Saffold has wisely adopted the good-soldier approach as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract. He could make a difference at right tackle after being replacement-level on the blindside.

Tue Apr 23 201319:28Rams have 'no issues' with Saffold
Coach Jeff Fisher says the Rams have "no issues" with RT Rodger Saffold.
Saffold would rather be traded than shift to right tackle, but apparently isn't making trouble at Rams OTAs. "He's having fun, working out, in really good shape," Fisher said. Unless the Rams get an offer they can't refuse, Saffold should be bookending Jake Long come Week 1.

Sun Apr 21 201309:50Rams not interested in trading OT Saffold
The National Football Post's Dan Pompei reports the Rams are not interested in trading RT Rodger Saffold.
Saffold, a 35-game starter at left tackle, was initially a bit disgruntled over the team's decision to move him to right tackle after the signing of LT Jake Long. Things have reportedly "calmed down," and that showed with Saffold's decision to show up to voluntary workouts last week. Pompei adds that the "expectation" is Saffold will be a Ram for a "long time."

Mon Apr 15 201312:04Rodger Saffold reports for offseason program
RT Rodger Saffold reported for the beginning of the Rams' offseason program on Monday.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last week Saffold had no plans to hold out, but it's an excellent sign for the Rams he's even showing up to voluntary workouts. Saffold will play the good solider as he waits for a new deal or to be traded. Going into the final year of his rookie contract, Saffold will only be a candidate for an extension if he's willing to take right-tackle money. That's not something he's likely to do.

Sat Apr 13 201315:58Rams could get mid-rounder for Saffold
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch suspects the Rams could get no more than a third- or fourth-round pick for Rodger Saffold.
Unhappy with both his contract situation and position in St. Louis, Saffold is a sleeper to be traded on draft day should the Rams select an offensive tackle with one of their first-rounders or even consider signing free agent Andre Smith. Saffold's durability is a concern, but he's only 24 years old with some solid left tackle tape. He'll man the right side if he stays in St. Louis.

Fri Mar 29 201313:07Rams can't get ahold of RT Rodger Saffold
The Rams haven't been able to get in touch with RT Rodger Saffold since signing LT Jake Long, but coach Jeff Fisher is "confident" the situation will get resolved.
Saffold - who is going into the final year of his rookie deal — is none too pleased about being shifted from the blindside. "We've been trying to reach Rodger, and he's not returning calls right now," Fisher said. "But we'll get things settled, and Rodger's a big part of our future and a big part of our plans on offense." It sounds like a holdout is brewing, but Saffold has yet to request a trade. The Rams' former left tackle is a candidate for a contract extension, but only if he's willing to take right-tackle money. It could be a while before he's amenable to that. Saffold could be put on the block between now and the draft.

Tue Mar 19 201309:37Rams not worried about losing Saffold
The Rams are expressing no concerns over a position change for Rodger Saffold.
"It's not an issue,"? coach Jeff Fisher said Monday. Newly signed Jake Long will be the left tackle, which means Saffold will be forced back to the less glamorous side. His agent previously hinted that switch could result in a trade request. "We'll sit down and discuss that internally with the player and even his agent," GM Les Snead said. "But Rodger's a team player and he's young. If he comes in and consistently plays like he did at the end of last year, Rodger will be fine."

Wed Mar 13 201312:36Report: Rams OT Saffold might demand trade
Newsday's Bob Glauber reports LT Rodger Saffold will "likely" ask the Rams to trade him if they sign free agent Jake Long.
The Rams would likely move Saffold to right tackle if they signed Long, and Saffold probably doesn't want to move off a more lucrative position. Saffold is entering a contract year, and left tackles make nearly double the money -- on average -- that right tackles do. St. Louis considers Saffold a strong starter and does not want to lose him. How this plays out might get interesting.

Wed Oct 31 201213:34Fisher: Saffold not moving to guard in '13
Coach Jeff Fisher denies the Rams are considering moving LT Rodger Saffold to guard in 2013.
"No, I don't," Fisher said when asked if he could envision such a move. "He's very athletic and talented at left tackle." It's possible Fisher is simply trying to keep Saffold's confidence up during the season, but with the Rams among the league's thinnest teams at tackle, a move inside, even if its next year, does seem unlikely for the former No. 33 pick.

Sat Oct 27 201214:17Rams thinking about moving Saffold to guard
The Rams are toying with the idea of moving LT Rodger Saffold inside to left guard in 2013.
As soon as Saffold was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, specualtion began as to where he would line up on offense. He has the length to play left tackle, but he has always been better suited to play right tackle or move inside to guard. In his rookie season, Saffold was a major surprise for the 7-9 Rams, surrendering just three sacks on Sam Bradford's blind side. His play was completely different in 2011, as he graded out very poorly and gave up 11 sacks in just 10 games played. St. Louis doesn't have an heir apparent left tackle on their roster right now, but it will certainly be a position they target early in the 2013 Draft. Saffold has been sidelined since Week 2 with a knee injury.

Fri Oct 19 201213:25Saffold a week or two away from practice
Rams LT Rodger Saffold (knee) could be "a week or two away" from returning to practice.
The Rams' bye falls in Week 9, so Saffold will likely shoot for a Week 10 return. Fill-in blindside protector Wayne Hunter was holding his own before a season-worst game versus Cameron Wake and the Dolphins in Week 6.

Mon Sep 17 201218:22Rodger Saffold out indefinitely
Rams LT Rodger Saffold's Week 2 knee injury has been diagnosed as a grade-three MCL sprain.
Saffold will avoid surgery and the I.R. list, but he's likely to miss several weeks, which is a big concern for a Rams club that will now turn to Wayne Hunter on Sam Bradford's blindside. Hunter played well off the bench against the Redskins, but is unlikely to keep it up. St. Louis is also missing C Scott Wells until midseason at the soonest. Although they did well to keep Week 1 close against the Lions and knock off the Redskins, we don't have faith that the Rams' offense can stay so competitive moving forward.

Mon Sep 17 201217:24MRI shows no ACL damage for Saffold
An MRI showed no damage to Rams LT Rodger Saffold's ACL, but he is still without a timetable for return.
The star-crossed left tackle never returned after exiting Sunday's win in the first quarter, one week after Saffold suffered a scary neck injury he surprisingly made it back from quickly. The Rams turned to Wayne Hunter at left tackle with Saffold out, and may have to again in Week 3 against Julius Pepppers' Bears.

Sun Sep 16 201216:59Saffold exits Sunday's game with knee injury
Rams LT Rodger Saffold exited Sunday's Week 2 contest with a first-quarter knee injury.

Thu Sep 13 201216:20Rodger Saffold gets in a full practice
Rams LT Rodger Saffold (neck) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday's practice.
It looks like Saffold is ready to roll just five days after being carted off the field in Detroit. He should be in the starting lineup over Wayne Hunter against the Redskins.

Wed Sep 12 201216:17Rodger Saffold returns to practice Wednesday
Rams LT Rodger Saffold (neck) was a limited participation in Wednesday's practice.
It's an extremely positive development after Saffold was briefly hospitalized following Sunday's loss, and suggests he might suit up against the Redskins. It would be far from surprising if the Rams played things safe and opted to hold Saffold out for a week, however. If Saffold suits up, he may rotate snaps with Wayne Hunter.

Sun Sep 9 201218:08X-rays on Saffold's neck come back negative
X-rays on Rams LT Rodger Saffold's injured neck have come back negative, but he will spend the night in the hospital as a precaution.
It's the best possible news for Saffold, who appears to have escaped with "just" a sprain. He'll almost certainly be doubtful for Week 2, but could possibly return as early as Week 3. Jets castoff Wayne Hunter should man the blindside for St. Louis in Saffold's absence. It's a huge concern for the Rams, as they'll be hosting a Redskins team in Week 2 that held Drew Brees in check on Sunday.

Sun Sep 9 201215:39Rams LT Rodger Saffold carted off
Rams LT Rodger Saffold was carted off the field in Sunday's game with a neck injury.
Battling with Lions S John Wendling, Saffold banged his head into another lineman, and immediately went down in a heap. He remained down for several minutes before being strapped down and carted to the locker room in a scary scene. He reportedly has feeling in his extremities. Saffold has been replaced by Wayne Hunter at left tackle. With C Scott Wells out with a foot injury, the Rams have lost 40 percent of their offensive line this afternoon.
