Steelers GM Kevin Colbert has confirmed RT Marcus Gilbert is likely to shift to left tackle in 2012.

Free agent LT Max Starks' future is in doubt after he tore his ACL in Pittsburgh's Wild Card loss to the Broncos. A second-round pick in 2011, Gilbert started 13 games as a rookie. Gilbert and Starks graded out nearly identically in Pro Football Focus' season-ending rankings.

The Steelers are "open to looking to bringing someone in" at tackle this week but "just for practice purposes only." Max Starks and Flozell Adams have already been ruled out as possibilities. Veteran Trai Essex will fill in at left tackle if Jonathan Scott (ankle) can't go. Both players are a liability against the Texans' active front seven.

They'll roll the dice on the massive Gilbert, who was drafted specifically to serve as Colon's backup at right tackle. With left tackle Jonathan Scott struggling, pass protection is a concern for Ben Roethlisbeger.
