Eagles C Jason Kelce (Lisfranc sprain) expects to be ready well before the team's first minicamp.
This is the first confirmation that the foot sprain was of the Lisfranc variety, though Kelce did escape surgery. The Eagles have high expectations for the 2011 sixth-rounder, whom coach Andy Reid calls a "phenomenal athlete" and a "smart kid." Kelce's biggest improvement will come in pass protection this season.

Eagles C Jason Kelce will avoid surgery after his Week 17 injury was diagnosed as a mid-foot sprain.
There had been some concern that the sprain was of the Lisfranc variety, but that turned out not to be the case. Although he graded out poorly in Pro Football Focus' ratings, the rookie starter received glowing late-season praise from Eagles OL coach Howard Mudd.

Mon Dec 19 201117:47Mudd: Kelce already one of NFL's best
Eagles OL coach Howard Mudd believes sixth-round rookie Jason Kelce is already one of the finest centers in the NFL.
Kelce was shaky early in the season, but Mudd now compares his mechanics to other centers he's coached such as former All Pro Kevin Mawae. "I know that he hasn't played against anybody that's better, I'll promise you that," Mudd said. The Eagles' revamped O-Line has improved by leaps and bounds since the first month of the season.

Sun Aug 21 201114:10Kelce getting the first-team reps this week
Serious about giving rookie Jason Kelce the chance to start at center, the Eagles are handing the sixth-rounder the first-team reps in practice this week.
"No decision has been made," said OC Marty Mornhinweg. "There is great competition there. Kelce has earned the opportunity to do this for a period of time and then we'll make decisions as we go. Both (Kelce and Jamaal Jackson) are playing at a high level."

Sat Aug 6 201112:15Kelce pushing Jamaal Jackson?
Rookie Eagles C Jason Kelce has been splitting first-team reps with Jamaal Jackson so far during training camp.
At 6-foot-3, 282 pounds, Kelce fits the prototype new Eagles OL coach Howard Mudd looks for in a center, and could be a legitimate threat to Jackson's starting job. Officially, the Eagles say they are simply trying to "build depth" by rotating their two centers.
