Bills WR Brad Smith (hamstring, hip) was held out of practice again on Thursday.
With an average of just over four yards per over the past three games, Smith won't be a fantasy option Sunday even if he plays.

Wed Dec 28 201118:46Brad Smith misses practice

Smith is dealing with both a sore hamstring and a hip flexor. He's managed just 13 yards on four receptions combined in Buffalo's last three games.

Sun Dec 18 201117:45Brad Smith catches three for five
Brad Smith caught three passes for five yards in the Bills' Week 15 loss to the Dolphins.
As expected, Smith has come back to earth since his fluky Week 12 and 13 outbursts. He's a gadget player that is now losing snaps to Derek Hagan and Ruvell Martin.

Sun Dec 11 201120:06Brad Smith records zero catches
Brad Smith was held without a catch in the Bills' Week 14 loss to the Chargers.
Smith started opposite Stevie Johnson and racked up five targets, but this is the danger with a "gadget" player. He struggled to separate and Ryan Fitzpatrick eventually turned his attention to Derek Hagan on some deep balls. Smith won't be a real fantasy option against the Dolphins next week.

Sun Dec 4 201117:28Brad Smith leads Bills in receiving
Brad Smith caught seven passes for 72 yards in Sunday's loss to the Titans.
Smith was officially listed as a "starter" opposite Stevie Johnson and ended up leading the Bills in targets with 10. He caught almost all of his passes underneath, but used his kick returner ability to make things happen after the catch. Smith is on the deep-league PPR radar as an every-down player that has 14 catches in the last three weeks.

Tue Nov 29 201108:52Brad Smith will stick opposite Johnson
Coach Chan Gailey confirmed that Brad Smith will stick as the starter opposite Stevie Johnson.
David Nelson will remain in his natural slot position. Smith posted four catches for 77 yards and a score against the Jets last week and has now moved ahead of Naaman Roosevelt on the depth chart. Extreme deep leaguers can take a flier, but we'd expect last week to be Smith's best game of the season. He's really a returner/gadget guy more than a wideout.

Sun Nov 20 201113:56Brad Smith has a rib injury
Brad Smith left Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a rib injury.
Smith was running a quick slant and the ball banged off his hands for an interception. Then, he took a shot to the ribs. Smith is questionable to return.

Sun Oct 9 201118:06Brad Smith scores Wildcat touchdown
Brad Smith carried the ball four times for 12 yards and a touchdown out of the Wildcat in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
For the season, Smith now has 44 yards and one score on 11 rushes. Despite the fact Donald Jones was lost for the day with a first-quarter ankle injury, Smith did not appear as a receiver one week after making his first two catches of 2011. He remains off the fantasy radar.

Mon Sep 12 201111:04Brad Smith throws pick in Bills debut
Brad Smith threw an interception out of the Wildcat late in Sunday's win over the Chiefs.
Rolled out to the right, he threw up a jump ball that was picked by Brandon Flowers. Smith had a quiet Bills debut, rushing three times for six yards while drawing zero targets as a receiver. He also returned a kick for 21 yards. Smith is going to be used all over the field this season, but it's not going to translate to fantasy value.

Sat Aug 13 201121:36Brad Smith all over the field in Bills debut
As expected, the Bills used Brad Smith extensively out of the Wildcat in their preseason opener on Saturday.
Smith rushed three times for 16 yards while completing 1-of-3 passes for 11 yards. He also took a sack. All three of his carries, two of which came on third down, moved the chains. Smith attempted just seven passes during his four-year Jets career, but if tonight is any indication, Bills HC Chan Gailey is going to live up to his pledge of drastically increasing that number this season.

Sat Aug 13 201115:09Brad Smith will do a little bit of everything
WR/KR Brad Smith will take snaps out of the Wildcat formation and split kick return duties with CB Da'Norris Searcy in Saturday's preseason game.
Buffalo is looking for Smith to earn every penny in his newly minted four-year, $15 million contract. The former Jet will be used in a similar role to Josh Cribbs in Cleveland, making his weekly fantasy value extremely limited despite his talent.

Fri Jul 29 201123:15Brad Smith will be listed as a QB
Brad Smith will be listed as a quarterback in Buffalo, with his primary role as the QB in the Wildcat formation.
"I see him being used in a similar role as I used Kordell Stewart in Pittsburgh," said coach Chan Gailey. "He can play some receiver and quarterback. He gives you a lot of versatility. He can play special teams, cover kicks and return kicks." We can't imagine a scenario where Smith has weekly fantasy value in the slash role. He's closer to Josh Cribbs than Kordell Stewart.

Thu Jul 28 201115:06Brad Smith signs with Bills
Bills agreed to terms with WR/KR Brad Smith on a four-year, $15 million deal.
A slash piece like Smith seems like more of a luxury for a good team than an asset to a bad team like the Bills. But they'll get a playmaker that's capable for playing slot receiver and returning kickoffs.

Thu Jul 28 201114:54Bills putting finishing touches on Smith deal
The Bills are putting the "finishing touches" on a deal with free agent WR/KR Brad Smith, a source tells beat writer Manish Mehta.
Expect an official announcement shortly. Buffalo adds another versatile speedster that can have an impact on the return game and get some reps as a slot receiver.

Thu Jul 28 201112:47Report: Bills coming hard after Brad Smith
The Bills are reportedly making a "strong push" to sign free agent WR/KR Brad Smith.
Buffalo has filled the void with the Bears backing off, though we're not sure about the fit. The Bills have explosive returners coming out of the ears, and C.J. Spiller would seem to be capable running many of the same gadget plays. Coach Chan Gailey can use Smith creatively, but he's not one swiss army knife away from a winning team.

Wed Jul 27 201110:43Brad Smith may join the Bears soon
NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that free agent WR Brad Smith "might be a Bear soon."
The agreement appears imminent. Smith gained NFL value when the league declared third-string quarterbacks active players on the new 46-man game-day roster. In Chicago, he could be a package player and compete for snaps in the slot.

Sun Jul 24 201109:20Brad Smith's value increased?
ESPN New York's Rich Cimini believes free agent WR/KR Brad Smith's value has increased thanks to a proposal in the new CBA that would make all third quarterbacks active on game days.
Smith could now serve as a team's official number-three quarterback while still fulfilling all of his other duties, essentially providing a bonus roster spot. It would be a luxury, but not something that's likely to add many extra dollars to Smith's contract.

Mon Jul 4 201112:30Brad Smith would be open to throwing more
Free agent WR/KR Brad Smith admits he would like to throw more out of the Wildcat.
A star quarterback at the University of Missouri, Smith has nevertheless attempted just seven passes during his four-year NFL career. Unlikely to end up back with the Jets after they drafted Jeremy Kerley this spring, Smith isn't going to do much, if any, throwing in 2011.

Thu Jun 23 201115:03Brad Smith will explore the market
Free agent WR/KR Brad Smith intends to "explore" the market this summer.
"We'll see if we'll be back with the Jets," said Smith. "I love being with them, but you never know." Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards figure to be higher priorities, and the Jets drafted Smith's replacement in fifth-rounder Jeremy Kerley. We'd be surprised if Smith ends up back with the Jets.
