Fri Jul 19 201311:15Report: Patriots won't release CB Dennard
A league source tells the Boston Globe the Patriots are not planning to release CB Alfonzo Dennard in the wake of his DUI arrest, but are prepared for him to be suspended.
Dennard has been arrested twice in two years. Jets CB Aaron Berry was suspended three games under similar circumstances. Dennard could be sent to jail if prosecutors decide to revoke his probation at a July 31 court appearance. The troublemaking cornerback was/is scheduled to serve 30 days in jail beginning next March after being convicted of assaulting a police officer in an April 2012 incident. Dennard is contesting the DUI charge, saying he actually blew under the legal limit on his breathalyzer test. The arresting officer alleges Dennard did not blow hard enough.

Lincoln, Neb. prosecutors want to provoke Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard's probation after he was busted for drunk driving on July 11.

His latest arrest has put him in a very precarious legal situation. Dennard would be sent to jail if his probation is revoked. The matter will be taken up in court on July 31.

Sat Jul 13 201322:14Patriots CB Dennard has court date set
Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard is scheduled to appear in court July 31 to determine if his arrest for suspicion of DUI violated the terms of his probation.
Dennard is on probation from a February assault conviction, so it's possible he could be sentenced to jail for his latest arrest. Even if he avoids further legal troubles, his 2013 status remains uncertain. Dennard will be subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy and could be facing a league-imposed suspension. The Patriots' training camp opens on July 25.

Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard, arrested for DUI on Thursday, said he took two or more breathalyzer tests from police after being pulled over.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who cited an unnamed source who had communicated with Dennard, the Patriots' cornerback did not blow hard enough to register a blood-alcohol measurement. Lincoln, Nebraska police reportedly allege Dennard declined to take a breath test. Dennard is on probation from a February assault conviction. He faces an uncertain future.

The Patriots said they are "extremely disappointed" to learn of CB Alfonzo Dennard's Thursday morning DUI arrest.
The Patriots released the following statement: "The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard's arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident." It's your typical day-of-the-arrest comment, and we wouldn't have expected much more. ESPN Boston says if the team released Dennard, it wouldn't be a surprise.

Thu Jul 11 201308:30Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard popped for DUI
Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Thursday morning.
Dennard was pulled over around 2 AM Thursday morning in Lincoln, Nebraska after he was spotted straddling a a lane line. In addition to suspicion of DUI, the 24-year-old was also cited for refusing a chemical test and a driving infraction. Dennard, of course, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation in April stemming from a bar fight last year in which he punched an investigating officer in the face. Commissioner Roger Goodell had already been planning to review that case, so this new arrest doesn't bode well for the second-year corner.

Thu Apr 11 201311:57NFL will review Dennard case
The NFL will review the Alfonzo Dennard case.
Commissioner Roger Goodell may want to suspend Dennard after the Pats' corner was sentenced to 30 days in jail for assaulting a police offer, but he's unlikely to be able to. When the incident happened, Dennard was not an employee of the NFL. It's a point the player's association would argue vehemently. We fully expect Dennard to line up as a starting corner across from Aqib Talib come Week 1.

Thu Apr 11 201310:02Pats CB Dennard sentenced to 30 days in jail
Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years probation Thursday.
Dennard was found guilty of assaulting a police officer after a fight outside a Nebraska bar last April. However, the judge delayed his jail start date until March 1 of 2014, so he'll be available for the entire offseason program and regular season. The NFL is not expected to discipline Dennard because the incident occurred before he was in the league. It's another gamble that pays off for the Patriots, as Dennard was expected to be at least a second-round pick before the fight. Bill Belichick and company stole him in the seventh round.

Patriots RCB Alfonzo Dennard will be sentenced on Thursday in connection with his felony assault conviction.
Dennard was found guilty of assaulting a police officer, though the incident took place before he formally became an NFL player. According to the Boston Globe, the "general" sentence for a conviction like Dennard's in Nebraska is 90-180 days in jail. The Globe does not expect Dennard to face a league suspension.

Wed Feb 20 201319:25Alfonzo Dennard unlikely to be suspended
The Boston Globe believes Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard is unlikely to face a league-imposed suspension for his conviction on assault charges because the incident took place before he was an NFL player.
Beat writer Greg Bedard believes the case is different from Terrelle Pryor's - where the NFL upheld a five-game ban initially handed down by the NCAA - because Pryor was expressly trying to circumvent NCAA punishment when he declared for the 2011 Supplemental Draft. Dennard was under neither NCAA nor NFL jurisdiction at the time of his April 2012 incident. Jets NT Kenrick Ellis wasn't suspended under circumstances similar to Dennard's in 2011.

Wed Feb 20 201313:26Dennard facing 'only' 180 days in jail?
A Lancaster County (Nebraska) attorney tells the Omaha World-Herald a typical sentence in a case like Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard's ranges from probation to 180 days in jail.
Dennard was convicted of third-degree felony assault on a police officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest on Wednesday, but could escape with no jail time in a case that carries a maximum five-year prison sentence. Even "just" 180 days in jail would have Dennard missing less than half of the 2013 season. He'll be sentenced on April 11.

Sat Oct 20 201222:46Patriots giving CB Dennard expanded role
Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard played 48-of-57 defensive snaps in last week's loss to the Seahawks.
Dennard was inactive for the first four weeks, but is being used ahead of Sterling Moore as the Patriots' nickelback, and replaced RCB Kyle Arrington on Sunday. If he continues to play at a high level, Dennard could be an option to take over full-time for Arrington as the starter opposite Devin McCourty.

Sat Jun 9 201209:38Seventh-round Alfonzo Dennard working at CB
The Patriots have been aligning seventh-round DB Alfonzo Dennard at cornerback during OTAs.
Dennard is versatile to play corner on the inside or outside and can help out at safety. Considered one of the more talented defensive backs in this year's draft class, Dennard's stock tumbled after a disappointing Senior Bowl and a third-degree assault of a police officer charge. He'll spend camp trying to beat out the likes of Will Allen, Sterling Moore, and Marquice Cole for a roster spot.

Wed May 30 201213:40Alfonzo Dennard pleads not guilty to assault
Patriots rookie CB Alfonzo Dennard pleaded not guilty Wednesday to third-degree assault of a police officer.
He also faces charges of resisting arrest. His next court date has not yet been set. The Patriots -- and the rest of the NFL -- were well aware of Dennard's arrest before he was drafted. It shouldn't affect his bid for a roster spot much.

Mon May 21 201208:37College coach goes to bat for Dennard
Nebraska coach Bo Pelini would "put (his) reputation" on the line for Patriots seventh-round CB Alfonzo Dennard.
Dennard will be arraigned on May 30 on charges that he assaulted a police officer. "That isn't who he is, that's never been who he is, and that's not going to be who he is in the future," Dennard's college coach said. The Patriots are probably more concerned about Dennard's rough Senior Bowl and Combine than off-the-field issues, though he faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
