Sun Dec 29 201316:49Cousins buries trade value with ugly finale
Kirk Cousins completed 19-of-49 passes for 169 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 20-6 Week 17 loss to the Giants.
So much for the Redskins boosting Cousins' trade value by showcasing him in the wake of Robert Griffin's benching. Yes, this game was played in driving rain. But Cousins repeatedly made bad decisions and was inaccurate, nearly getting picked off another fistful of times. In three starts this year, he completed 69-of-130 passes (53.0 percent) for 747 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He was especially poor in the last two weeks despite plus matchups, torpedoing any chance the Skins had of flipping him for a first- or second-day draft pick. Cousins will likely be back as RG3's clipboard holder in 2014.

Sun Dec 22 201310:0350-50 chance of storms for Cowboys at Skins
Sunday's Cowboys-Redskins game at FedEx Field is expected to be played in the rain.
Temperatures are expected to be in the low 70s with winds whipping around at 14-17 MPH, per Weather.com. There's a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in mid-afternoon. NFL Network's Kimberly Jones, who is on scene in Landover, reports it's currently raining and is expected to rain even harder at game time.

Wed Dec 18 201309:21Dallas is getting shredded by backup QBs
Kirk Cousins is the fourth straight backup quarterback the Cowboys will face.
Over the last three weeks, Dallas has seen Matt McGloin, Josh McCown and Matt Flynn. Their rancid defense has allowed that trio to go 71-of-105 (67.6 percent) for 902 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Now it's Kirk Cousins turn as he gets the Cowboys for the Redskins' home finale. Cousins has gone over 300 yards in each of his two career starts and has five touchdowns, putting him on the borderline QB1 radar for this dream matchup.

Mon Dec 16 201320:28Redskins didn't alter offense for Cousins
Coach Mike Shanahan says the Redskins didn't change the offense for Kirk Cousins.
"You have the same dropback, you have the same ability to run quarterback keeps or half-rolls or bootlegs, waggles, different types of screens depending what the defense is giving you, so that's part of our offensive scheme," Shanahan said. Cousins did pick up a first down with a keeper around the left edge. The most noticeable thing was that Cousins was pretty accurate in the intermediate passing game. He had some zip on his throws, but let's not get carried away. The Redskins were facing a hopeless Falcons team. Cousins will be on the QB2 radar against the Cowboys in Week 16. Dallas has much more to play for.

Thu Dec 12 201319:48Rival GMs think Cousins could net 2nd rounder
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport surveyed six rival general managers about Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' trade value, and "everyone" believed he could fetch a second-round pick.
This is where it's worth noting that backup quarterbacks often have grossly exaggerated trade value. Similar things were said about Matt Flynn in Green Bay, and Brian Hoyer in New England. Cousins could buck the trend with a successful three-game stint in place of Robert Griffin III, but he'd have to be really, really good. This isn't the last we've heard of this story.

Wed Dec 11 201309:21Report: Redskins will start Cousins over RG3
A high-ranking team official tells ESPN that Kirk Cousins will start Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Mon Dec 9 201315:20Redskins may start Kirk Cousins in Week 15
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan told reporters Monday he is considering starting Kirk Cousins in Week 15 against Atlanta.
Cousins completed 7-of-16 throws for 59 yards in Sunday's loss to Kansas City, replacing Robert Griffin III midway through the fourth quarter down 45-10. Shanahan threatening to bench RG3 for, as he explained, the possibility Griffin might get injured in Washington's final three games is the ultimate slap in the face to owner Dan Snyder. Look for Shanahan's firing shortly, perhaps as soon as tonight. If Cousins gets the start, he'll be on the two-quarterback-league radar in a plus matchup indoors at Atlanta.

Sun Dec 8 201318:57Kirk Cousins manages 59 yards in relief
On in relief of Robert Griffin III in Washington's Week 14 blowout loss to the Chiefs, Kirk Cousins completed 7-of-16 passes for 59 yards.
Cousins came on midway through the fourth quarter with Washington trailing 45-10. He was extremely ineffective, though that's not surprising for a player who wasn't expecting to see time against one of the league's best defenses. Coach Mike Shanahan seemed to (barely) crack the door open for Cousins to start in Week 15, but we'd be extremely surprised to see the Redskins made a change at quarterback.

Mon Aug 26 201321:15Kirk Cousins 'no doubt' will be ready Week 1
Redskins backup QB Kirk Cousins (foot) told reporters Monday there's "no doubt" he'll be ready for Week 1.
"No doubt at all," said Cousins. He's resumed practicing and will be ready to back up RG3. Cousins finished the preseason 8-of-10 passing for 71 yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers. While hubbub Cousins has starting-caliber ability has been grossly overblown, he's one of the NFL's top young backups. Strictly from a skill-set standpoint, Cousins is more in the Kevin Kolb range.

Wed Aug 21 201313:41Cousins expects to miss dress rehearsal
Kirk Cousins (sprained foot) has yet to resume practicing, and expects to miss Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.
Rex Grossman and Pat White will carry the mail against Buffalo. Cousins expects to be ready for Week 1, but so does Robert Griffin III (knee).

Tue Aug 20 201313:07Kirk Cousins (foot) will be ready for Week 1
FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports an MRI on Kirk Cousins' right foot came back negative, and that he's expected to be ready for Week 1.
He avoided serious damage and may even suit up for Washington's preseason finale. Cousins' health will only be an issue for the Redskins if Robert Griffin III (knee) isn't cleared for Week 1, but all indications are that he will be.

Mon Aug 19 201323:27'Indications' are Cousins avoided Lisfranc
Updating previous items, Kirk Cousins (right foot sprain) is in a walking boot but "preliminary indications" are he has avoided a Lisfranc injury.
Cousins will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, and he's taking the cautious route with his foot. The second-year quarterback is on crutches and isn't putting much pressure on his foot as he heads home for the night. We should have an update on Cousins tomorrow, but there's no reason to believe it's a serious injury.

Mon Aug 19 201321:48Kirk Cousins diagnosed with mid-foot sprain
Updating a previous item, Kirk Cousins suffered a mid-foot sprain in Monday night's preseason game against the Steelers.
X-rays came back negative, and we'd say Cousins will be fine in time for the regular season. He may not play much -- or at all -- the rest of the preseason, so Rex Grossman and Pat White should get plenty of work. Cousins couldn't get off the field after Steelers OLB Lawrence Timmons landed on the back of his legs, but Cousins reportedly barely limped to the locker room.

Mon Aug 19 201321:05Cousins exits Monday's game with foot injury
Kirk Cousins left Monday night's preseason game against the Steelers with a right foot injury and is questionable to return.
He won't be returning to a meaningless preseason game. Cousins tried to get to the sideline on a seven-yard scamper, but he was caught from behind by Steelers OLB Lawrence Timmons. Timmons landed on the back of Cousins' right leg, and the second-year quarterback's foot bent awkwardly underneath him. He tried to return to the huddle, but instead sat on the field and limped to the locker room. Cousins has started both preseason games with Robert Griffin III out, and has completed 8-of-10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Rex Grossman replaced him in the lineup, and we'll call Cousins day-to-day for now.

Thu Aug 8 201313:43Kirk Cousins has been up & down in camp
According to the Washington Post, Redskins second-year QB Kirk Cousins "hasn't had the sharpest of camps."
Cousins is gobbling up first-team reps with Robert Griffin III limited to 7-on-7s, but reportedly "hasn't been accurate on a consistent basis." Cousins is tentatively expected to start all four preseason games, where he'll attempt to show his worth to the rest of the league. Cousins has average arm strength and moderate athleticism, but demonstrated offensive command as a rookie.

Fri May 31 201312:28Kirk Cousins taking snaps out of Pistol
Kirk Cousins has been taking snaps out of the Pistol formation in Redskins OTAs.
Cousins' athleticism is not a strong suit, but he's not a statue. It's an indication the Redskins aren't planning to totally scrap their innovative offense if Robert Griffin III (knee surgery) isn't ready for Week 1. That being said, coach Mike Shanahan will be forced to operate out of a far more traditional base if Cousins is pressed into action.

Fri May 24 201315:03Kirk Cousins leading Redskins workouts
Kirk Cousins is getting all of the Redskins first-team offseason reps as Robert Griffin III rehabs his ACL and LCL tears.
"With the extra added reps that he's getting," said Mike Shanahan, "you can see the progression in his game." It's a reminder that Cousins could inherit some fantasy value if Griffin encounters a setback or gets injured again. Cousins saw action in three games as a rookie, starting one. He completed 33-of-48 passes (68.8 percent) for 466 yards (9.7 YPA) and a 4:3 TD-to-INT ratio.

Thu Dec 27 201209:36Redskins not interested in dealing Cousins
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests the Redskins wouldn't trade backup QB Kirk Cousins "for anything less than an attractive high draft pick or picks."
Cousins' stock is on the rise after going 26-of-39 for 329 yards with two touchdowns and one pick in a Week 15 spot-start win at Cleveland. But the Redskins understand the value of a quality backup when their starter is in harm's way as much as Robert Griffin III is. Cousins, a fourth-round pick in 2012, will almost certainly be back in D.C. next season.

Sat Dec 15 201223:37Kirk Cousins will be Redskins Week 15 starter
Kirk Cousins will be the Redskins' starting quarterback in Week 15 at Cleveland.
In the thick of a playoff chase and legit contenders for the NFC East title, the Redskins made a conservative decision in sitting Robert Griffin III (knee). It's a move clearly made with the long term in mind. Cousins, a fourth-round rookie out of Michigan State, has completed 7-of-11 passes this season for 137 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. His insertion in place of RG3 likely means the Redskins will play a far more "pro style" brand of offense against the Browns, eliminating option runs. It's a slight concern for Alfred Morris' Week 15 fantasy outlook, and makes Pierre Garcon especially shaky. Garcon was already facing the difficult task of getting free against Browns top CB Joe Haden.
