Tue Feb 11 2014 | 20:07 | Weeden reportedly 'wants out' of Cleveland |
According to NFL Network's Mike Silver, Brandon Weeden "wants out" in Cleveland. |
It's times like this when we wish it was appropriate to say "lol" in blurbs. That being said, it's not surprising Weeden "wants out" despite being in no position to make demands. The soon-to-be 31 year old was picked two GMs ago - even though it's been less than two years since Cleveland made him a first-round pick. His selection was made out of desperation by the Mike Holmgren regime, while his desire to leave is undoubtedly a result of the dysfunction of the Jimmy Haslam era. Weeden is extremely unlikely to fetch anything in a trade, but is a candidate for release. |

Thu Jan 9 2014 | 10:43 | Brandon Weeden likely done with Browns |
Brandon Weeden's 2014 contract includes $2 million in guarantees. |
No matter who ends up coaching the Browns, it's highly unlikely Weeden will be in their plans. The No. 22 overall pick in 2012 was 0-5 as a starter in 2013, somehow regressing while completing just 52.8 percent of his passes and throwing nine touchdowns against nine interceptions. As ESPN Cleveland notes, it's "another Browns QB chewed up and spit out." |

Mon Dec 30 2013 | 08:05 | Front office wanted Weeden held accountable |
According to the NFL Network, one "breaking point" for fired HC Rob Chudzinski was his refusal to hold Brandon Weeden and Greg Little "accountable." |
A couple weeks back, Chud was reportedly told to cut a player. He refused, which apparently was a sign that he doesn't do well with accountability. Perhaps Chud is a natural coordinator rather than head coach, but he was given Weeden, Brian Hoyer and Jason Campbell as his quarterbacks, and Josh Gordon, Little and Davone Bess as his top-three wideouts. He benched Weeden repeatedly and had to keep rolling with Little due to the dearth of talent on the roster. We're still waiting for a more logical explanation for why Chud was only given one year on the job. |

Brandon Weeden (concussion) is practicing in full for Week 15, and will back up Jason Campbell against the Bears. |
Weeden isn't much, but he's still more than Alex Tanney. Weeden has zero chance of reclaiming the Browns' starting job without injury to Campbell. |

Weeden is not in play to start Sunday's game at New England. It's either going to be Jason Campbell (concussion), Alex Tanney or Caleb Hanie. Campbell was cleared to practice Thursday. |

Wed Nov 27 2013 | 10:59 | Brandon Weeden will start for Browns Sunday |
Brandon Weeden will start Sunday's Week 13 game against the Jaguars. |
Jason Campbell (concussion) will almost certainly be inactive. Weeden has started four games so far this season, going 0-4 while posting an overall 51.5 completion percentage and 6:7 TD-to-INT ratio in seven appearances. The only reason to think he'll improve on those numbers Sunday is the matchup. The Jaguars rank 24th against the pass, the Browns are playing at home and Josh Gordon will run wide open all day. Weeden is a desperation kind of QB2. |

Mon Nov 25 2013 | 12:18 | Brandon Weeden expected to start for Browns |
Coach Rob Chudzinski confirmed that Brandon Weeden will likely start Sunday's game against the Jaguars. |
Jason Campbell is in the concussion protocol and not expected to get cleared in time. It leaves Weeden with yet another chance to start thanks to injury. A home game against the Jags No. 24 defense is an ideal spot, but Weeden's consistently indecisive play makes him a mere low-end QB2. He's completed just 51.5 percent of his passes this season with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. |

Brandon Weeden has been benched. |
Weeden, the 22 overall pick in last year's draft, has lost his job to 31-year-old journeyman Jason Campbell. We can talk about how the new Browns regime never wanted Weeden, but the truth is that he earned this demotion. He went 103-of-195 (52.8 percent) for 1,154 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions in five games. The Browns are 0-4 in his starts and his 66.5 passer rating ranks 30th in the NFL. |

Mon Oct 21 2013 | 14:33 | Update: Browns haven't picked Week 8 starter |
Updating an earlier item, the Browns have yet to decide on their Week 8 quarterback. |
The word comes straight from the team. CBS' Jason La Canfora reported earlier Monday that they were sticking with Brandon Weeden. It's quite possible that will remain the case, but the Browns are wisely opting against immediately announcing Weeden will get another chance. Weeden was Tyler Palko-level bad against a Packers defense riddled with backups on Sunday. However, backup Jason Campbell was similarly inept for the Bears in 2012. We'd guess Weeden ultimately gets one more start. |

Mon Oct 21 2013 | 13:00 | Browns sticking with Brandon Weeden @ KC |
The Browns will stick with Brandon Weeden at quarterback in Week 8 at Kansas City. |
We'd tell you to fire up the Chiefs' fantasy defense, but you already knew that. Legitimately regressing as a passer, Weeden turned in arguably the poorest game of his career in Week 7 against a decimated Green Bay defense. The 30-year-old second-year quarterback does nothing efficiently or quickly, holding onto the ball too long and making some of the slowest-developing decisions you'll ever see. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora "wouldn't be surprised to see" Jason Campbell enter the discussion soon. Weeden will now be on a short leash. |

Sun Oct 20 2013 | 20:12 | Brandon Weeden struggles mightily again |
Brandon Weeden completed 17-of-42 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown, and one interception as the Browns got spanked by the Packers in Week 7. |
He scrambled twice for 20 yards. Weeden only absorbed three sacks, but was under duress for most of the game mostly due to his own tendencies of holding onto the ball far too long. The Packers didn't have either of their starting outside linebackers, as Nick Perry (foot) and Clay Matthews (thumb) were both inactive. Weeden's ineptness is the primary obstacle Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron's fantasy owners have to deal with on a weekly basis. The Browns travel to Kansas City next. |

Mon Oct 14 2013 | 12:07 | Brandon Weeden will retain his starting gig |
Coach Rob Chudzinski confirmed Brandon Weeden will start Week 7. |
Weeden is now 0-3 as a starter, but the Browns aren't going to turn to Jason Campbell. "Brandon played well in spurts," Chud said Monday of his quarterback's Week 6 performance. Weeden went 26-of-43 for 292 yards with two touchdowns and two picks against the Lions. Touch matchups at Green Bay and at Kansas City over the next two weeks are scary for a quarterback uncomfortable in muddied pockets. |

Mon Oct 7 2013 | 12:07 | Brandon Weeden will start Sunday |
Brandon Weeden will start Week 6 against the Lions, as expected. |
Brian Hoyer (knee) is done for the year and Weeden remains ahead of Jason Campbell. Weeden struggled badly in two starts earlier this season, completing 47-of-86 passes (54.6 percent) for 516 yards with one touchdown, three picks and a pair of losses. Note that Josh Gordon was suspended for those games. Still, Weeden has shown an inability to progress through reads and move the chains consistently. Despite a big arm, he'll be a weak QB2 option going forward. |

Thu Oct 3 2013 | 23:47 | Weeden, Browns outlast Bills in TNF clunker |
On in relief of an injured Brian Hoyer (knee), Brandon Weeden completed 13-of-24 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown in Cleveland's 37-24 Week 5 win over the Bills. |
Active for the first time since Week 2, Weeden was thrust into action four minutes into the game after Brian Hoyer got his right knee rolled up. Weeden zipped a few nice throws, but mostly reinforced why he had been benched in the first place. Despite holding onto the ball for far too long, Weeden still often stared down his first read, a unique combination. He took five sacks, at least 2-3 of which were the result of his inability to make a decision. He's simply not an NFL starter. It will be a big downgrade for Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron's fantasy prospects if Hoyer is lost for the season. Weeden is a bottom-five QB2. |

Thu Oct 3 2013 | 19:00 | Brandon Weeden active for Week 5 vs. Bills |
Brandon Weeden (thumb) is active for Week 5 against the Bills. |
RG Shawn Lauvao (ankle) is active and making his season debut. OLB Jabaal Sheard (knee) is inactive. Weeden returns to the 46-man roster as Brian Hoyer's clear backup. Hoyer would likely need to struggle for at least 2-3 games before the Browns considered switching back to their soon-to-be 30 year old 2012 first rounder. Also inactive for the Browns are QB Jason Campbell, RB Fozzy Whittaker, C Patrick Lewis, OT Martin Wallace and LB Quentin Groves. |
