Bernard (ribs) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Ravens, ESPN's Coley Harvey reports.
Bernard is thus on track to suit up for Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. He'll take aim at a Ravens' defense that has allowed an average of 87.4 rushing yards to date, and will look to bounce back after his seven-carry, 17-yard effort in Week 7's 27-0 loss to the Colts, which marked the only time this season that Bernard has logged less than 13 carries.
Thu Oct 23 201416:48Bernard (ribs) limited at practice Thursday
Bernard (ribs) was limited at practice Thursday, the Bengals' official site reports.
More on Bernard's status Friday, but at this stage his Week 8 availability does not seem to be in question, a notion that would be supported by a probable injury designation to close the week.

Bernard (ribs) was limited at practice Wednesday, the Bengals' official site reports.
More on Bernard's status Thursday, but so far there has been nothing to suggest that his availability for Sunday's game against the Ravens is in any danger.

Bernard has seven carries for 17 rushing yards and two catches on five targets for minus-one yard Sunday against the Colts.
One week removed from 157 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers, Bernard was left with few opportunities to produce, as the Bengals' offense stalled on drive after drive, eventually losing 27-0. Things don't get much easier in Week 8, as the Bengals will host the Ravens, who are ranked seventh in the NFL in fewest-rushing yards allowed per game this season after holding the Falcons to 68 yards on the ground Sunday.
Wed Oct 15 201415:58Bernard but later able to return
Bernard, who left this past Sunday's game with a shoulder issue, but was later able to return, is not listed on the Bengals' Wednesday practice participation/injury report, ESPN's Coley Harvey reports.
Bernard's status for Sunday's game against the Colts thus appears secure, on the heels of his 18-carry, 137-yard rushing effort in Week 6.

Bernard, who left Sunday game against the Panthers in the second half with a shoulder injury but was able to return, finished with 18 carries for a career-high 137 rushing yards and one touchdown, as well as four catches on five targets for 20 receiving yards.
Bernard had 13 carries for 115 yards, including an 89-yard touchdown, before suffering the injury, and while he was able to return, he had to watch backup Jeremy Hill grab a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was the first 100-yard game of his two-year career, and his touchdown was his fourth in the last four games. Up next is a Week 7 matchup against a Colts defense that is ranked 11th against the run this season by allowing 107.5 rushing yards per game, including 136 yards to the Texans on Thursday.

Bernard left Sunday's game against Carolina in the second half with a right shoulder injury, the Bengals' official site reports. His return is questionable.
We'll await further updates from the team on the severity of the injury, but for now the Bengals will turn to Jeremy Hill at running back. Bernard had 13 carries for 115 yards - including an 89-yard touchdown - before departing.

Bernard had 62 yards on 13 carries and 10 yards on two receptions in Sunday's 43-17 loss to the Patriots.
The Bengals only ran 48 offensive plays, and mostly abandoned their running game in the second half. Owners would like to see Bernard more involved in the passing game during a blowout loss, but his three targets weren't so bad, given that Andy Dalton attempted just 24 passes. Jeremy Hill surprisingly had three receptions for 68 yards, albeit with just one yard on two carries. And, Hill racked up most of his yardage on a 38-yard catch after the starters were pulled. Bernard is still dominating the workload outside of blowout situations, and he should see plenty of touches next week against the Panthers.

Bernard rushed for 47 yards on 14 carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns, in Sunday's blowout win against Tennessee. He also caught one pass for seven yards.
Bernard didn't do much on a per play basis, but the two touchdowns more than made up for it. Do not be concerned with his lack of involvement in the passing game, as Andy Dalton completed just 15 passes for 169 yards. Meanwhile, rookie Jeremy Hill also scored a touchdown Sunday, but didn't see much work until the second half.

Bernard had 27 carries for 90 rushing yards and a touchdown, as well as five catches on six targets for 79 receiving yards during Sunday's 24-10 win over the Falcons.
Bernard was an absolute beast Sunday, as the Bengals dominated the Falcons. Backup Jeremy Hill also saw significantly more touches than he did in Week 1, finishing with 15 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown, as well as two catches for 22 yards. Up next for Bernard is a solid matchup against a Titans defense that allowed 220 rushing yards to the Cowboys on Sunday.

Bernard played 57 snaps Sunday against the Ravens as opposed to just 10 for Jeremy Hill, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
We don't expect the split to be that extreme in future games, but it's also clear that Bernard is the primary back and not a timeshare back.

Bernard had 48 yards on 14 carries and 62 yards on six receptions in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Ravens.
Unable to find much success on the ground, Cincinnati leaned on its short passing game, which Bernard is a huge part of. That could be true to an even greater extent after TE Tyler Eifert (elbow) suffered what appeared to be a serious injury. Bernard didn't get any goal-line carries in Sunday's contest, but he played far more snaps than Jeremy Hill, and stayed in the game the only time the Bengals ventured inside the Baltimore 10-yard line.

Bernard had 10 carries for 17 yards and caught a couple of passes for one yard in Sunday's preseason game at Arizona.
Bernard had trouble finding room to run, averaging under two yards per carry. Meanwhile, rookie Jeremy Hill fared better, rushing for 23 yards on six carries. It's been a quiet preseason for Bernard, although he's fully expected to shoulder most of the load once the regular season begins, and when you factor in Bernard's receiving abilities, he has the potential to be a breakout player in 2014. On a down note, it remains to be seen how much Bernard will be used around the goal line, with Hill and possibly BenJarvus Green-Ellis around.

Bernard scored a one-yard rushing touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.
Bernard gained four yards from the Jets' five-yard line, and then finished things off on the next play. While Benjarvus Green-Ellis got most of the goal-line and short-yardage work last season, Bernard was sometimes used from in close. It may be that Bernard will get a higher percentage of the goal-line carries this year, but both BJGE and rookie Jeremy Hill loom as threats to handle some of the early-down and goal-line workload.

Bernard gained 10 yards on three carries and nine yards on one reception in Thursday's preseason opener against the Chiefs.
After registering 226 touches (170 carries, 56 receptions) in 16 games as a rookie, Bernard will likely see more of the ball this season. However, he still figures to lose some of the early-down work and goal-line carries to either Jeremy Hill or Benjarvus Green-Ellis, with Hill looking like the favorite. The Bengals still have A.J. Green and an excellent offensive line, so Bernard should have ample room to work with when he gets the ball in his hands.
Thu Jul 31 201411:24Giovani Bernard looking good in camp
OC Hue Jackson said Giovani Bernard has had an "outstanding camp" so far.
Bernard's first training camp as the unquestioned starter is going well. "He's so explosive, he can catch the ball, he's a tough son of a gun. He protects. He blocks," Jackson said. With Jackson installing a run-based offense, we could easily see 400 total carries for Bernard and power complement Jeremy Hill. Gio is also going to be a huge factor as a receiver.

Mon Jul 28 201412:44RBs coach suggests 260-300 touches for Gio
Bengals RBs coach Kyle Caskey hinted at 260-300 touches for Gio Bernard this season.
Bernard had 226 touches last season. This year, he's the clear-cut No. 1 back and Hue Jackson is installing a run-based scheme. "You don't necessarily have to hand it off and say, 'Hey, Gio got 260 touches last year out of the backfield.' Maybe he gets 260 to 300 touches but he gets them some other way," Caskey said. "Maybe he gets 200 out of the backfield but he catches 100 passes or however it is. We'll find a way to get the ball to him."

Wed Jul 16 201408:32Cinc Enquirer: 300 touches for Gio Bernard
The Cincinnati Enquirer expects the Bengals to feature Giovani Bernard "early and often."
The Bengals are shifting to a ball-control scheme under new run-first OC Hue Jackson, with Bernard and rookie Jeremy Hill as the centerpieces. Beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. projects at least 230 carries and 70 receptions for Gio, numbers that are realistic considering he had 170 carries and 56 catches as a rookie last season. "Buckle up," says Dehner. We don't doubt that Bernard is poised for a breakout, but this leap in usage has already been built into his second round ADP.

Wed Jun 25 201421:34Bengals aiming for 'ball-possession' offense
Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson believes new OC Hue Jackson is targeting a "more ball-possession team that runs it more."
Hobson previously suggested Andy Dalton's pass attempts could dip into the Russell Wilson range. The box-score beneficiaries should be Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill. The Bengals spoke early this offseason of utilizing Bernard a la Ray Rice, whose carries leaped from 107 as a rookie to 254 as a sophomore, and spiked from 33 to 78 receptions. Bernard will likely be replaced at the goal line by Hill, but the table is otherwise set for a nice 2014 breakout.

Mon Jun 9 201408:42Gio Bernard to be big part of passing game
Giovani Bernard is expected to be used in the passing game often.
Run-heavy Hue Jackson is now the Bengals offensive coordinator and Bernard is his clear-cut starter, but that doesn't mean the 5'9/208 NFL sophomore is going to become a 300-carry pounder. He's expected to dominate the screen game, help replace Andrew Hawkins in the slot and even catch passes further downfield. We're expecting weekly workloads around 13-15 carries and 3-5 catches for Bernard, who projects as a low-end RB1 in PPR formats.
