Smith completed 18-of-29 passes for 254 yards, with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's overtime loss to the Vikings. He also added 33 rushing yards on six carries.
Smith finished with more passing attempts Sunday than in the previous two games combined, though it still wasn't enough to lead the Jets to victory. Making matters worse, wide receiver Percy Harvin suffered an ankle injury that could be season-ending, which leaves Smith without one of his top targets. Up next is a Week 15 matchup against the Titans, who have been much better against the pass than the run this season.

Smith completed 7-of-13 passes for 65 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception, in Monday's 16-13 loss to the Dolphins. He gained another 19 yards on four carries.
The Jets went with a gameplan from a different era, piling up 277 yards on 49 carries. A dominant running game allowed New York to take an early 10-0 lead, but the Dolphins provided much more resistance after the first quarter. Five of Smith's 13 pass attempts came on the game's final drive, which ended with an interception by Dolphins safety Reshad Jones. While Smith figures to get the start in Minnesota next week, it won't be surprising if the Jets deploy a similarly run-heavy approach.

Head coach Rex Ryan said Friday that he "anticipates" Smith will be the Jets' starting quarterback for the final five games of the season, the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports.
The Jets announced earlier in the week that Smith would start Monday night against Miami, and it looks like Smith will remain the starter the rest of the season, barring injury. The New York Daily News has reported that New York's coaches believe Michael Vick gives the Jets the best chance to win, but the team's superiors want to further evaluate Smith over the final month of the season. Ryan side-stepped questions about the decision-making Friday, but seemed to reinforce the idea that he would rather be starting Vick. "It's a Jets decision that Geno's our QB," Ryan said. "That's the way it is." Fantasy owners shouldn't expect much from Smith on Monday night, playing behind a terrible offensive line against the league's fourth-ranked pass defense.
Wed Nov 26 201408:30Geno Smith: Reclaims Starting QB Role
Head coach Rex Ryan informed Smith Wednesday morning that he will start at quarterback for the Jets in Week 13.
It was reported Tuesday that Michael Vick would likely remain the starter for the Jets, but the team will instead turn back to Smith, and he will start Monday for the first time since Week 8.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan said after Monday's 38-3 loss to the Bills that he is unsure who will start at quarterback in Week 13 against the Dolphins, Seth Walder of the NY Daily News reports.
Michael Vick was terrible in the blowout loss, completing just 7-of-19 passes for 76 yards, with no touchdowns, an interception, and an ugly overthrow on what should have been a long touchdown. He was removed from the game midway through the third quarter, at which point the Jets were already losing 31-3. Though Smith completed 10-of-12 passes for 89 yards in mop-up duty, he didn't actually have much success moving the ball. Further complicating Rex Ryan's decision for Week 13, Vick went for X-rays after Monday's game, Brian Costello of the NY Post reports.

Smith (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Steelers, but he will be the backup behind Michael Vick.
Smith was held out of last weekend's game due to the shoulder injury, though Vick was already named the starter for that one. With Smith healthy again, Matt Simms returns to the inactive list. There is a light expectation that Smith could regain his starting job, but if Vick continues to play well, he may not get that chance.

Smith (shoulder) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Steelers, the Jets' official site reports.
Smith is in line to suit up Sunday, though he is slated to serve in a backup capacity behind Michael Vick, while Matt Simms is on track to be inactive, according to ESPN.com.
Wed Nov 5 201416:08Smith (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday
Smith (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.
As did Michael Vick, who is slated to start Sunday's game against the Steelers, relegating Smith to backup duty, assuming he suits up this weekend.

Coach Rex Ryan relayed Sunday that Michael Vick is slated to start over Smith (shoulder) next week against the Steelers, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.
It remains to be seen if Smith suits up as a backup next week after being inactive Sunday, but with the Jets on bye in Week 11, Smith is effectively removed from the team's starting QB equation until at least Week 12.
Sun Nov 2 201411:36Smith (shoulder) inactive for Sunday's game against Chiefs
Smith (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, according to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini.
Smith was benched in the first quarter of last Sunday's game against the Bills after throwing three first-quarter interceptions, but NFL.com is reporting that Smith could be back under center in Week 10 against the Steelers, as the team still doesn't view Michael Vick as a viable long-term option. Matt Simms will be the backup against the Chiefs.

Smith practiced fully Friday, but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, according to ESPN.com.
The report suggests that the signs point to Smith being available Sunday, though with Michael Vick starting the contest, Smith is not a Week 9 fantasy lineup consideration, in any case.

Smith (shoulder) practiced fully Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, the Jets' official site reports.
Smith is thus on track to suit up Sunday, but he'll do so in a backup capacity, with Michael Vick slated to start at QB for the Jets in Week 9.
Thu Oct 30 201417:55Geno Smith: (Shoulder) Resumes Throwing Thursday
Smith (shoulder) resumed throwing during Thursday's practice, the Star-Ledger reports.
Smith, who practiced fully Thursday, is thus in line to be available Sunday to back up Week 9 starter, Michael Vick.

Smith (shoulder) didn't throw any passes during the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, ESPN.com reports.
Smith was officially listed as a limited participant by the Jets, but if he is unable to suit up Sunday against the Chiefs, the team would presumably promote Matt Simms from the practice squad to back up Week 9 starter Michael Vick.
Mon Oct 27 201417:06While Smith's shoulder injury not considered serious
While Smith's shoulder injury is not considered serious, according Manish Mehta of the Daily News, Michael Vick will start Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
According to coach Rex Ryan, Vick's status as the Jets' starter isn't guaranteed beyond Week 9, but with Smith having injured his shoulder while making a tackle on his third pick in Sunday's loss to the Bills, the 1-7 Jets will turn to Vick for a spark this week, and possibly beyond, if the veteran QB turns in a strong effort this weekend.

Smith underwent X-rays on his right shoulder after Sunday's loss to the Bills, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports. The Jets did not reveal the results.
Perhaps a shoulder injury was at least partially to blame for Smith's abysmal performance in the first quarter Sunday before getting benched in favor of Michael Vick. Head coach Rex Ryan said after the game that he has "no idea" who is going to start at quarterback next week, but if Smith's shoulder is truly injured, Ryan may not even have to make that choice.

Head coach Rex Ryan said after Sunday's loss to the Jets that he has "no idea" whether Smith or Michael Vick will start next week against the Chiefs, the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports.
Smith was benched after throwing three first-quarter interceptions, but Vick was not impressive in relief duty, completing just 18 of 36 passes for 153 yards and a pick. Regardless of which direction Ryan goes, this is probably a situation fantasy owners should avoid. At the very least, Vick offers a bit of extra upside because of his ability to make things happen with his legs (eight carries, 69 yards Sunday).
Sun Oct 26 201413:41Geno Smith: Benched After 3 First-Quarter INTs
Smith was pulled from Sunday's game against the Bills in the first quarter and replaced by Michael Vick.
Smith was brutal in less than a quarter of work, forcing several balls into coverage on his way to three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. He was 2-for-8 for five yards and three picks before being pulled. The Jets will turn to Vick to see if he can provide any type of spark.

Smith completed 20-of-34 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 27-25 loss to the Patriots, adding 37 yards on six carries.
Smith played a solid, turnover-free game, but he crucially overthrew TE Jace Amaro on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the contest with under three minutes remaining. Smith got another drive at the very end, and while he led the Jets into New England territory, Nick Folk's 58-yard field-goal attempt was ultimately blocked as time ran out. The 34 pass attempts were in line with what Smith's done in previous weeks, though the Jets actually went with a run-heavy gameplan, recording a season-high 43 carries among their season-high 80 offensive plays. As poorly as things have gone this season, Thursday's performance was the best for both Smith and the offense as a whole since the team's lone victory back in Week 1 against the Raiders. The Jets may need Smith to do a bit more in Week 8, as the Buffalo Bills have been excellent at defending the run but much more vulnerable to the pass.

Smith completed 23-of-43 passes for 190 yards and two scores in Sunday's loss to Denver. He was sacked four times and intercepted once.
The numbers don't do full justice to Smith, as his teammates dropped a number of passes on him. While we can't view it as a breakthrough performance, it at least was a step forward after last week's nightmare loss at San Diego. The Jets play New England on Thursday.
