Nonetheless, it appears Brown is currently jockeying with veteran Jason Avant to earn No. 3 receiver looks and Brown has outperformed Avant in two straight games now. A shifty, smaller player, Brown offers the Panthers' offense something unique in their passing game, although his fantasy value remains very limited.

Filling in as a starter for Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), Brown (ankle) had seven receptions for 66 yards on nine targets in Sunday's 37-19 loss to the Steelers. Brown also fumbled into his own end zone on a punt return, giving the Steelers what was essentially a game-sealing touchdown.

The Panthers wanted to keep Jason Avant as the No. 3 wideout, so Brown got the first nine targets of his career. While a solid contributor in the passing game, Brown made a terrible mistake in the fourth quarter, right after the Panthers had pulled within 10 points and gotten a three-and-out. Brown could have some deep league value, but only if Cotchery (hamstring) misses time beyond Week 3. Once Cotchery returns, Brown will likely just be the fourth wide receiver.
