Sat Dec 6 201412:36Mettenberger (shoulder) will start Sunday against Giants
Mettenberger (shoulder) will start Sunday against the Giants, The Tennessean reports. The quarterback practiced all three days in a limited fashion and is listed as questionable on the injury report.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt is optimistic Mettenberger will play, though he stopped short of naming him the starter. Fantasy owners will want to make sure he's starting Sunday game, which is a 1:00pm ET kickoff. You'll also want to factor in the Titans being down two targets this week as Justin Hunter (spleen) is out and Kendall Wright (hand) is unlikely to play.

Jim Wyatt of Tennessean expects Mettenberger (right shoulder, questionable) to play Sunday against the Giants after practicing in a limited fashion this week.
For his part, coach Ken Whisenhunt noted with regard to Mettenberger's status, "I haven't changed...we're optimistic he's going to play." Given Mettenberger's official questionable designation, the QB's Week 14 status is worth confirming in advance of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. Assuming he does play, as Wyatt expects, Nate Washington, Derek Hagan and Kris Durham appear to be in line to be Mettenberger's top wideout targets this weekend, with Justin Hunter on IR and Kendall Wright (hand) unlikely to suit up Sunday.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated Thursday that Mettenberger (shoulder) continues to improve, noting that the Titans are optimistic about the QB playing Sunday against the Giants.
Meanwhile, per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Mettenberger practiced again Thursday, while throwing the ball well during the open portion of the session. At this stage, barring any setbacks, Mettenberger appears to be on track to start Sunday's game, a notion that would be solidified by an official probable designation come Friday.

Mettenberger (shoulder) was listed as limited at practice on Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of Tennessean reports.
That said, coach Ken Whisenhunt is optimistic that Mettenberger will play this weekend, while the quarterback himself indicated Wednesday that he is "definitely playing this week." Such an outcome of course precludes any setbacks, but at this stage, it looks like Mettenberger is on track to start Sunday's game against the Giants.

Mettenberger's shoulder injury is not serious and the Titans are hopeful he can play this week against the Giants.
He said after Sunday's loss that he was dealing with a Grade 1 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder. While it is worrisome that Mettenberger's throwing shoulder is not fully healthy, it is encouraging that the Titans do not believe the injury to be serious.

Mettenberger indicated after Sunday's loss to the Texans that he is dealing with a Grade 1 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, Jim Wyatt of Tennessean reports.
Per Wyatt, Mettenberger -- who was replaced Sunday by Jake Locker -- plans to play next week against the Giants, but given that the QB's injury is to his throwing shoulder, we suspect that such an outcome is not a lock, despite his optimism.

Mettenberger (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Texans.
Mettenberger left the game in the third quarter after a hard J.J. Watt hit sent him to the ground. Jake Locker will continue to serve as the Titans' quarterback while Mettenberger receives treatment and undergoes further evaluation.

Mettenberger left Sunday's game in the third quarter due to a shoulder injury, Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com reports.
Mettenberger was relieved immediately by Jake Locker, who wasted little time in throwing his fifth interception of the season. Not much is known regarding the exact nature of his condition at the moment, but the Titans would ideally like to see him return to action if at all possible.

Mettenberger completed 20 of 39 passes for 345 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception Sunday against the Eagles.
Mettenberger connected with seven different receivers, throwing touchdowns to wideout Justin Hunter and running back Dexter McCluster. Hunter's touchdown was lucky not to be picked off, as the ball was tipped by a defensive back and landed in Hunter's hands as he was running full stride toward the end zone. Mettenberger has now thrown for two touchdowns in three of four games as the starter, though he's also turned the ball over five times in that span. Up next is a promising matchup against a Texans defense allowing the second-most passing yards per game this season.

Mettenberger completed 15-of-24 passes for 263 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception in Monday's 27-24 loss to the Steelers.
As impressive as the statistics appear, Mettenberger largely benefited from an 80-yard touchdown pass to Nate Washington, who broke wide open on a busted coverage in the final minute of the first half. It was a touchdown that pretty much any NFL quarterback could have thrown, and Mettenberger otherwise struggled on the few occasions he faced pressure, notably throwing an ugly pick-six on Tennessee's first drive of the game. The rookie did bounce back from the pick with a quick touchdown drive, and he easily did enough to keep the starting job. While his strong stat says more about the Pittsburgh defense than his own performance, Mettenberger has at least proved to be somewhat competent through his first three starts. A Week 12 matchup at the Eagles will be tough, but it should provide plenty of opportunities to throw the ball.

Mettenberger completed 16-of-27 passes for 179 yards, with one touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 21-7 loss at Baltimore.
It was a so-so performance from Mettenberger, who completed a pass to seven different players, but also took five sacks. It appeared as though the rookie QB might be headed for a nice day, after he tossed a first-quarter touchdown to Leon Washington, but he had trouble generating offense from that point. To make matters worse, Delanie Walker left the game with a concussion and did not return. If the underrated Walker is unable to play next week, Mettenberger and the entire passing game could take a bit of a hit, at least in the short term. In any event, Mettenberger will take on Pittsburgh at home in Week 11.

Mettenberger completed 27-of-41 passes for 299 yards, with two touchdowns, one interception and one lost fumble during Sunday's loss to the Texans.
Mettenberger was decent in his first career start, connecting with eight different receivers, throwing touchdowns to wideout Justin Hunter and tight end Delanie Walker. However, a majority of his work came with the Titans down big, as his TD to Walker late in the third quarter made it 27-9. The rookie understandably struggled with his accuracy, as Walker and Hunter caught only eight of the 19 balls thrown their way, but it was good enough that he'll likely start in Week 10 at the Ravens following the team's Week 9 bye.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt has confirmed that Mettenbeger will start Sunday's game against the Texans, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports.
Whisenhunt also confirmed Thursday that Mettenberger will be backed up by Jake Locker on Sunday. With the Titans 2-5 and Locker in the final year of his contract, the team will now look to see what they have in the strong-armed Mettenberger, who was selected in the sixth round of this past May's draft. A wait-and-see approach with Mettenberger is in order in most formats in his starting debut, but he'd presumably need to struggle mightily on Sunday in order to not retain the assignment once the Titans return to action from their Week 9 bye.
Wed Oct 22 201422:52Zach Mettenberger: Expected To Start Sunday
The Titans plan to start Mettenberger in Sunday's game against the Texans, The Tennessean reports.
The move has not been confirmed by the Titans, but Mettenberger was apparently informed of the decision to give him the nod over Jake Locker on Tuesday night. With this report being released, the Titans figure to provide some clarification on their starting quarterback situation in the near future.
Thu Sep 25 201412:47Mettenberger practiced on Wednesday
Mettenberger practiced on Wednesday, the Tennessean reports.
The Titans believed that Mettenberger might miss some practice time this week because of a family matter, but the quarterback was on the field Wednesday, working behind Charlie Whitehurst, with starting QB Jake Locker held out of practice with a wrist injury.

Mettenberger is expected to miss some practice time this week following the death of a family member, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports.
With Jake Locker dealing with a wrist sprain and appearing questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, Mettenberger likely would have been in line for increased reps during practices. That could still be the case if Mettenberger doesn't end up missing more than a practice or two due to the personal tragedy, but Charlie Whitehurst would still seem next in line to start for the Titans if Locker is unable to play Sunday.

Mettenberger has been getting more snaps in practice due to the injury to Charlie Whitehurst (finger), Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports.
Mettenberger took over for the injured Whitehurst in last Friday's preseason loss to the Saints and completed 20-of-25 pass attempts for 269 yards and two touchdowns. It wasn't all pretty -- Mettenberger threw an interception, fumbled once, and took two sacks -- but for the most part he looked sharp in front of a supportive crowd, who remember the quarterback fondly from his days with LSU. With Whitehurst unlikely to play on Saturday against the Falcons, Mettenberger should get a lot of playing time once again.
Mon Jul 21 201415:01Zach Mettenberger sucker punched at bar
Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger was reportedly "sucker punched" at a Nashville bar over the weekend.
According to the bar's owner, Mettenberger responded to a fellow bar patron yelling "Roll Tide," by saying "Good luck with that." "I promise you that Mettenberger did not throw a punch," stated Steve Ford, owner of Loser's Most Wanted Bar & Grill. "He didn't do anything. The guy sucker-punched him in the eye, that's the bottom line, and the guy that punched him started running out the door. My door guys had to chase him down." Mettenberger is fine, but he probably needs to avoid situations like this going forward.

Mon Jul 7 201417:54Mettenberger 'no threat' to Locker's job?
The Nashville Tennessean considers sixth-round rookie Zach Mettenberger "no threat" to Jake Locker's job.
Mettenberger is on the record as believing he's competing for the Titans' starting job, but it's not going to happen in camp. Even if Locker struggles with injury or ineffectiveness early in the season, there's no guarantee Mettenberger would jump clipboard holder/mascot Charlie Whitehurst. Mettenberger's primary job is to develop.
