Third-round pick Chris Borland confirmed he expects to compete with Michael Wilhoite for the 49ers' starting inside linebacker job.

"I think it's his spot right now, but I'm going to fight for it," Borland said. With NaVorro Bowman out at least the first six weeks with a knee injury, Borland has a chance for significant early-season playing time. It's expected for him to be behind Wilhoite at this point, but he can close the gap with a strong training camp. Even if he doesn't start, Borland will likely be used in a rotation next to Patrick Willis until Bowman returns.
