Fri Apr 11 201412:16Giants reach out to free agent Matt Flynn
The Giants have "reached out" to free agent QB Matt Flynn.
After Eli Manning underwent ankle surgery on Thursday, the Giants are heating up their efforts to bring in a veteran quarterback to handle some offseason reps. Josh Freeman will reportedly work out for the Giants next week. The Packers want to re-sign Flynn, but he's likely looking for more money than they'd offer.

Wed Mar 26 201407:51Packers want QB Matt Flynn to return
Coach Mike McCarthy said he'd like to re-sign free agent QB Matt Flynn.
Ideally, McCarthy wants to carry both Scott Tolzien and Flynn behind Aaron Rodgers. But the Packers haven't come out of camp with three signal callers on the roster since 2008 and there's no real sense of urgency. Although the backup quarterback market has been churning, Flynn has predictably attracted zero known interest.

Fri Dec 20 201312:58Flynn expected to be Packers Week 16 starter
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn expects Matt Flynn to "certainly" be the Packers' Week 16 starting quarterback after observing the opening portion of Friday's practice.
Just as he has all week, Flynn handled the vast majority of first-team reps. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early Friday that the Packers don't expect Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) to face Pittsburgh unless "something significantly changes with doctor." The Packers will game plan to pound away with Eddie Lacy in an attempt to hide their quarterback at home on Lambeau Field.

Mon Dec 16 201317:22Packers 'game-planning' for Matt Flynn
Speaking Monday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he's "game-planning right now for Matt Flynn" to be the team's Week 16 starter.
It's the same tact the Pack have taken each of the past three weeks. Sunday's miracle victory has ramped the Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) speculation up to a fever pitch, but the Pack are determined not to make an emotional decision. Rodgers will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. There's a real chance that Rodgers will return against the Steelers, but Flynn should be considered the favorite to start until further notice.

Sun Dec 15 201319:53Flynn throws 4 scores as Pack stun Cowboys
Matt Flynn completed 26-of-39 passes for 299 yards, four touchdowns and an interception as the Packers rallied from a 26-3 halftime deficit to stun the Cowboys 37-36 in Week 15.

Fri Dec 13 201313:21Matt Flynn 1st-team QB at Packers practice
Matt Flynn was the Packers' first-team quarterback during the opening portion of Friday's practice.
The Packers didn't suddenly elevate Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) onto the first team, which suggests they are still planning to start Flynn. Beat writers also expect Flynn to get the nod. "Judging body language, Rodgers didn't seem thrilled," wrote beat reporter Ty Dunne after observing drills.

Mon Dec 9 201316:19Packers 'planning' on Matt Flynn for Week 15
The Packers are planning on Matt Flynn starting in Week 15, but have left the door open for Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) to return.
"That's the way you have to go about it," coach Mike McCarthy said. "Aaron has hurdles to get over." Rodgers will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. With a division title still within Green Bay's grasp, they're going to give Rodgers every shot at returning, but have made it clear he won't be prematurely cleared. Even against the Cowboys' lowly secondary, Flynn wouldn't be more than a bottom-barrel QB2.

Sun Dec 8 201316:01Matt Flynn manages to eke out Packers win
Matt Flynn completed 24-of-32 passes for 258 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Packers' Week 14 win over Atlanta.
He also lost a fumble and scrambled six times for 28 yards. Although Flynn's numbers didn't wholly impress, his interception was tipped off of Falcons MLB Paul Worrilow's foot for a fluky 71-yard pick six by WLB Sean Weatherspoon, and the veteran largely managed this game respectably. The victory keeps Green Bay in the playoff hunt, and keeps Aaron Rodgers' (collarbone) availability relevant for Week 15. The Packers face the Cowboys next.

Fri Dec 6 201313:51Matt Flynn to start at quarterback
Matt Flynn will be the Packers' starting quarterback in Week 14.
Even in one of the most favorable matchups conceivable for a quarterback, Flynn will barely be on the two-QB-league radar Sunday against the Falcons.

Thu Dec 5 201308:47Flynn didn't have full playbook last week
Matt Flynn said he didn't have the full playbook and wasn't always certain of the play he was running during the Thanksgiving loss to the Lions.
Flynn re-signed with the Packers on Nov. 11, made a relief appearance on Nov. 24 and then started on just three days of preparation on Nov. 28. The result against Detroit was one of the worst performances of the season by a quarterback, as he went 10-of-20 for 139 yards with no touchdowns, one interception and two fumbles lost. This week, Flynn is taking all the first-team reps as he prepares to start against the Falcons Sunday. He should have full command of the playbook, giving Jordy Nelson and James Jones owners a shred of hope.

Tue Dec 3 201316:28Matt Flynn to take first-team reps Wednesday
Matt Flynn will take the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice, with Aaron Rodgers "also preparing."
Flynn was an unmitigated disaster in Green Bay's Thanksgiving debacle in Detroit, but coach Mike McCarthy believes he's "further along" than Scott Tolzien in terms of game experience and comfort in the Pack's system. Truly dreadful against the Lions, Flynn won't be in the QB2 conversation against the Falcons if Rodgers isn't ready to return.

Thu Nov 28 201315:50Flynn egregiously bad as Packers get trucked
Matt Flynn was a disaster in Green Bay's 40-10, Week 13 loss to the Lions, completing just 10-of-20 passes for 139 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception.
Flynn also lost two fumbles in a game that will go down in infamy in Green Bay. 56 of Flynn's yards came on a contested garbage-time bomb to James Jones. He followed it up by losing his second fumble one play later. With Flynn presenting truly zero threat in the passing game, Detroit blitzed with impunity, racking up seven sacks. One doubled as a safety for Ndamukong Suh. Flynn was simply horrific, showing no velocity or pocket awareness. It's more clear than ever why he was sent packing from Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo. If Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) isn't ready for Week 14, Green Bay will likely turn back to Scott Tolzien. Thankfully, Rodgers should be ready to go.

Wed Nov 27 201313:31Packers name Flynn starter; Rodgers ruled out
Coach Mike McCarthy named Matt Flynn the Packers' Week 13 starter for Thursday's game against the Lions.
Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) has been ruled out. He participated in some individual drills this week but was never expected to be cleared in time on the short week. Flynn has been getting all of the first-team reps and will be backed up by Scott Tolzien. The last time Flynn faced the Lions, in Week 17 of 2011, he torched them for six touchdowns and 480 yards through the air. He's obviously not going to post those number again, but he'll be a decent plug-and-play QB2 option for Week 13. Look for Rodgers to possibly return in Week 14.

Tue Nov 26 201314:05Flynn takes Pack's first-team reps Tuesday
Packers QB Matt Flynn took the first-team reps in Tuesday's practice.
Coach Mike McCarthy still refused to officially anoint Flynn as his starter for Thursday's trip to Detroit, but all signs point toward him getting the call over Scott Tolzien. McCarthy has all but ruled Aaron Rodgers out. The Lions' increasingly banged up and struggling pass defense isn't a bad matchup for a player who has shined in Rodgers' absence in the past, but Flynn is a bottom-barrel QB2 for Week 13.

Mon Nov 25 201315:54Packers noncommittal on QB starter
Packers coach Mike McCarthy remained noncommittal Monday when discussing the team's Week 13 starting quarterback.
McCarthy noted Matt Flynn played "very well" off the bench in Sunday's tie with the Vikings and "deserves to start" on Thanksgiving. Aaron Rodgers' (clavicle) chances of playing are "slim to none." McCarthy said he likes the way Scott Tolzien "has grown," and vowed to "do the best we can to get both ready," referring to Tolzien and Flynn. Look for Flynn to start at Detroit.

Sun Nov 24 201321:49Packers won't name Thanksgiving starter yet
Coach Mike McCarthy declined to name a Week 13 starter following Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
Matt Flynn replaced an ineffective Scott Tolzien midway through the third quarter and overcame a 16-point deficit to earn a tie. Meanwhile, McCarthy said he had "no idea" if Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) would be ready for Thanksgiving. "I don't have [an answer] for you," the coach said. If Rodgers can't go, it's hard to see the Packers turning back to Tolzien. Flynn would be a QB2 against a woeful Lions defense that gave up 247 yards and two touchdowns to Mike Glennon Sunday.

Mon Nov 11 201319:19Packers bring back old pal QB Matt Flynn
Packers signed QB Matt Flynn.
Flynn worked out for the Packers Monday morning. Green Bay later had free agent QB John Skelton in for a workout. They opted to sign old friend Flynn. Flynn was drafted by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2008 draft. He appeared in 34 games for the Packers from 2008-11, making two starts and parlaying one of those into $14.5 million from the Seahawks and Raiders over the past two seasons. The Packers need Flynn after Seneca Wallace injured his groin Sunday. Flynn will back up Scott Tolzien against the Giants in Week 11.

Sun Nov 10 201320:33Matt Flynn to work out for GB on Monday
Free agent QB Matt Flynn is scheduled to work out for the Packers Monday.
The workout was scheduled even before Seneca Wallace hurt his groin on Sunday, but now a signing appears far more possible. The Packers want to get a look at just how healthy Flynn's elbow is. Regardless, Scott Tolzien is going to start against the Giants in Week 11.

Thu Nov 7 201318:47Report: Matt Flynn will work out for Packers
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent Matt Flynn will work out for the Packers "at some point soon."
ESPN's Ed Werder reported as much on Wednesday. Werder also added that the Pack would sign Flynn "if convinced he's healthy." How Seneca Wallace fares against the Eagles could factor into how aggressively the Packers go after their old No. 2 quarterback.

Tue Nov 5 201318:50Werder expects Packers to sign Matt Flynn
ESPN's Ed Werder expects the Packers to sign free agent Matt Flynn "if convinced he's healthy."
The Pack passed up a chance to claim Flynn on waivers, but that would have required taking on his (minimum) salary without getting a look at his recent medicals. ESPN Milwaukee reported Tuesday that Green Bay is concerned about Flynn's persistent elbow problems. Flynn had great success as a spot starter for Aaron Rodgers during his time in Green Bay, but has struggled since moving on. If healthy, however, he'd probably be a better bet than Seneca Wallace.
