Although he's dealing with a bit of elbow soreness, Manziel will play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Redskins, NFL.com's Marc Sessler reports.

Manziel has reportedly looked much better than he did at the same point in training camp last season, but he probably still has a long way to go. He may be in for a pretty busy preseason, as Josh McCown is a heavy favorite to lock down the starting job, which may lead the Browns to limit the veteran's reps.

Manziel remains firmly entrenched as the backup to Josh McCown, Mary Kay Kabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Manziel got to work with the starting offense during recent practices, but coach Mike Pettine insists that it was merely to get the backups some needed time with the starters. Throughout the offseason, all signs have pointed to Josh McCown being the starting quarterback Week 1, and that notion doesn't appear to have been changed since the opening of camp. Per ESPN Cleveland, Manziel has displayed a marked improvement in accuracy compared to last season, but the differences between him and McCown are not yet significant enough to heat up the quarterback competition.

Manziel is expected to be a full participant in Tuesday's OTA session, ESPN.com reports.

Manziel spent 10 weeks in a rehabilitation facility this offseason, and the reception has been generally positive up to this point, as teammates have apparently taken notice of the personal changes he's made. New offensive coordinator John DeFilippo is the most recent of several within the organization to take note of Manziel's rededication to preparation, stating that "he's spent every hour that he's been allowed to spend in this building." Josh McCown seems to be the favorite to win the starter's job heading into camp, but if the praise sent Manziel's way so far holds true, Johnny Football could at least make the competition interesting in his sophomore campaign.

Manziel still appears to be part of Cleveland's future plans, as the team failed to trade up to draft a premier quarterback in the first round of the NFL draft Thursday. He'll have to earn everything that's given to him, however, as the young quarterback once again will find himself behind a veteran on the depth chart in the early parts of training camp. Manziel will have a full camp and preseason to prove his re-dedication to preparation to coach Mike Pettine and his staff, but considering McCown just signed a three-year deal with the team, it will likely be an uphill battle. Following a dreadful 5.1 QBR in his rookie year, Manziel will have to show dramatic improvement, both on and off the field, in order to see playing time.

Manziel is still viewed by many within the Browns' organization as part of their future plans, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Manziel has been participating in voluntary offseason workouts with the team, where head coach Mike Pettine was reached for comment. "He's very much in our plans," Pettine stated, adding that "His career with us just hit the pause button." It was reported earlier this offseason that many within the organization had "moved on" from Manziel, but this statement was highly refuted in the report. The young quarterback had his fair share of off-the-field issues during his rookie campaign in Cleveland, which ultimately landed him in a rehabilitation facility for a period greater than 10 weeks. Mix that with the on-field struggles in limited opportunities in 2014, and that left plenty to doubt Manziel's capability to be the face of the NFL franchise. He'll likely face stiff competition from recent signee Josh McCown for the starting quarterback job this summer, but the organization at least seems open to giving him another opportunity. It will be intriguing to see whether that notion holds up following next week's NFL draft, where the Browns own the 12th and 19th overall picks.

Manziel was released from the rehabilitation facility he entered in January, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports.

The exact nature of Manziel's treatment isn't clear, but reporting on his 2014 behavior revealed a clear need to change the way he managed his life off the field. Hopefully his treatment gave him the means of making more productive choices going onward, and hopefully that will allow him to realize whatever NFL potential he might have. The Browns expected Manziel to be available when offseason training began April 20, and it appears that expectation was correct.

Pettine also said that it isn't set in stone, so there's still some chance Manziel won't be ready for the start of workouts. Either way, Manziel should be ready long before training camp, and he'll likely get a chance to compete with Josh McCown at training camp. Manziel has been in a treatment center since early February.

Coach Mike Pettine relayed Monday that it's "too soon" to tell if Manziel will take part in voluntary workouts when they commence next month, USA Today reports. "I don't want to speak on the specifics of his program. Getting him right personally comes first, then the professional part comes second," Pettine said.

Few developments have emerged since Manziel checked into a treatment center in early February, but Pettine stated that the quarterback and the organization have kept in contact in the meantime. Until Manziel is of sound mind and body to return, the Browns will entrust recent signee Josh McCown with QB duties in the meantime, and perhaps whenever the second-year pro rejoins his teammates.

Manziel decided to enter himself into treatment Wednesday, ESPN reports. "Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate, and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," Manziel's adviser Brad Beckworth said.

Manziel will be in rehab for at least a few weeks, as the Texas A&M product looks to improve himself on and off the field. As a rookie, Manziel spent most of the season as the backup to Brian Hoyer, finally receiving a start in Week 15. However, he struggled in a 30-0 loss to the Bengals and was knocked out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury in Week 16. He heads into the offseason as the potential starter for the Browns in 2015 with Brian Hoyer becoming a free agent. Changing his image off the field could improve his standing with the Browns organization, and in turn could give the team the confidence that he can be the team's franchise signal caller moving forward.

Manziel's off-the-field problems from his rookie year "run deep," according to an ESPN.com report.

Speaking to "nearly 20" sources familiar with the Browns, ESPN.com concluded that Manziel displayed a "year-long pattern that showed a lack of commitment and preparation" and a "continued commit to nightlife" that adversely affected his preparation. Manziel's season ended about as gracelessly as possible, stumbling through late-season starts against Cincinnati and Carolina before showing up late to injury treatment Saturday, Dec. 27 after allegedly drinking heavily the night before. ESPN.com's report states that people around the team generally took Manziel for competitive and well-intentioned, but the behavior described will almost certainly preclude him from NFL success unless he changes his ways. If there's a silver lining to any of this, it might be that Manziel's rookie season struggles were related to his preparation process rather than a lack of talent, and the former is theoretically easier to fix than the latter. Still, a failed rookie season is always discouraging, and Mazniel's career trajectory is definitely worse than what it appeared to be a year ago.

Manziel -- who finished the year on injured reserve with a hamstring injury -- collected 175 yards on 18-of-35 passing, to go along with 29 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine attempts. He failed to throw a touchdown pass in five appearances, and was intercepted twice.

Manziel had a rookie campaign that was rocky at best, as he was beat out by Brian Hoyer for the team's starting quarterback job in camp, and served primarily as a bench warmer for the first 12 weeks of the season. When Hoyer went cold, coach Mike Pettine called upon the rookie to take the reigns, but he proceeded to lose a lopsided blowout game to the Bengals in his first career NFL start. This didn't get much better in his second attempt, as he suffered a hamstring injury that ultimately landed him on the season-ending IR. Off-the-field issues once again crept up on Manziel near the end of 2014, but the team still appears to have confidence that the rookie will get his act together in advance of his second NFL season. Hoyer is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and although the door remains open for a return to Cleveland, Manziel should be given every opportunity to lock down a starting gig in 2015.

Manziel was forced out of Sunday's game against the Panthers in the second quarter with an injured hamstring, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Manziel, who was replaced by Brian Hoyer, had completed 3-of-8 passes for 32 yards prior to heading to the locker room to be checked out by the Browns' medical staff.

Manziel will start at quarterback for the Browns in Week 16 against the Panthers, ESPN Cleveland reports.

Manziel and the Cleveland offense were shut out in the rookie's first game as a starter Sunday, but it's too late for coach Mike Pettine and the Browns to turn back now. Manziel will finish the season with back-to-back road contests, first against the playoff-hopeful Panthers, and then in Baltimore against their division rivals. Although Pettine acknowledged that Manziel made some rookie mistakes in the loss, he did come to his defense as well, stating that "It would be hard to judge on just the one game, but again, it doesn't just fall on [Manziel]. We didn't play well around him."

Manziel completed 10-of-18 passes for 80 yards and two interceptions, adding five carries for 13 yards in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

Manziel's debut as the Browns starter was underwhelming at best, as the rookie failed to help the Cleveland offense put a single point on the board in a lopsided defeat. He hit top receiver Josh Gordon three times for 48 yards, but no other Browns receiver managed to record more than 10 yards through the air. Manziel will look to redeem himself next week in a road matchup against the Panthers, but based on this week's performance, he's likely not a high-percentage fantasy play until he proves otherwise.

Head coach Mike Pettine informed both Manziel and fellow quarterback Brian Hoyer on Tuesday morning that Manziel will start for the Browns in Week 15. He will favorable conditions in his first pro start, playing at home and taking on a Bengals defense that ranks 28th in the league in yards allowed per game.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning that every indication out of Cleveland points to Manziel starting Sunday against the Bengals.

The Browns have not officially announced a starting quarterback change, but with multiple points indicating Manziel will replace Brian Hoyer this week, it's looking very likely that will happen in the near future.

Though coach Mike Pettine did not name his starting quarterback for Week 15 on Monday, ESPN's Tony Grossi relays that the team appears to be leaning toward starting Manziel over Brian Hoyer this coming Sunday against the Bengals.

With Brian Hoyer having thrown eight interceptions and one touchdown over his last four games, it appears as though Pettine is leaning toward making a change at QB. "I think it's natural to lean the other way, given the results," Pettine acknowledged Monday. "I still want to make sure we do our due diligence and talk to everybody involved." With that in mind, Pettine indicated "we'll go out Wednesday and practice with who our starter is."

Manziel will be the backup quarterback behind Brian Hoyer in Sunday's game against the Colts, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports.

Manziel impressed in a brief showing last week, but the Browns will stick with the quarterback that got them this far even though Hoyer has not played well of late. It is possible Manziel could play this week or over the final three games if Hoyer continues to struggle, but it will be Hoyer opening under center Sunday against the Colts.
