Sat Mar 9 201319:07Colts still in talks with Butler, Powers
The Colts remain in talks with in-house free agent CBs Darius Butler and Jerraud Powers.
The Indianapolis Star reported Friday the Colts hoped to bring back Powers, who was benched for Butler before landing on injured reserve with a toe injury. Butler would presumably be in the mix for a starting job, but it wouldn't be handed to him.

Tue Nov 13 201211:35Colts thrilled with Darius Butler
Darius Butler had supplanted Jerraud Powers as a starting corner even before Powers' season-ending toe injury.
Butler was a second-round pick in 2009 that flamed out in New England and was later cut by the Panthers. Now he's thriving in Indy. "That's the whole beauty of the mantra 'next man up.' Don‹¨«t give it up, once you get it," interim coach Bruce Arians said. "(GM) Ryan (Grigson) gave (Butler) an opportunity to reclaim a career and he's making the best of it." Butler had two interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown in last Thursday's win over the Jags.

Tue Sep 25 201211:22Darius Butler signs on with Colts
Colts signed CB Darius Butler.
The Colts head into their bye really thin in the secondary as Vontae Davis (ankle) and Justin King (groin) are both week to week. They'll need all the corners they can get with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on the schedule Week 5. Butler has been on the street since getting cut by the Panthers just before Week 1.

Fri Aug 31 201215:51Panthers waive CB Darius Butler
Panthers waived CB Darius Butler.
A second-round pick of the Patriots in 2009, Butler started six games last season, but struggled mightily in coverage. Butler hasn't notched a pick since his rookie year, but should eventually crack a roster as a special teamer/reserve slot corner.

Sun Oct 30 201108:00Panthers CB Butler not expected to play
Panthers CB Darius Butler (personal) is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Ron Rivera said Friday that he called Butler and told him he needs to stay with his family, so it's unlikely he plays in Week 8. Butler's infant daughter recently underwent heart surgery and reportedly had a setback but is doing well. After being claimed off waivers from New England in September he's maintained slot duties for the Panthers this season. Josh Thomas and R.J. Stanford will be promoted in his absence.

Tue Sep 6 201116:26Patriots cut ties w/ 41st pick in 2009 draft
Patriots waived CB Darius Butler.
The 41st overall pick in the 2009 draft lost his starting spot in Week 2 of last season and never regained the confidence of the coaching staff. Bill Belichick's reserve corners must play special teams, which hurt Butler's chances of sticking on the roster. Butler looked like a first-rounder coming out of UConn, so he won't get through waivers. The Panthers and Lions are two teams with a need.

Wed Aug 17 201112:43Darius Butler to miss Patriots' final cut?
ESPN Boston's Mike Rodak projects that 2009 No. 41 overall pick Darius Butler will not make the Patriots' final roster.
Rodak projects both Butler and Jonathan Wilhite to be waived at final cuts, leaving four corners and four safeties on the roster. Butler was a good-looking prospect coming out of UConn, but hasn't earned enough defensive playing time and adds nothing on special teams. He'd likely be claimed on waivers.

Sun May 1 201121:49Darius Butler could lose roster spot in NE
ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suggests that 2009 No. 41 overall pick Darius Butler's roster spot is in danger following the Patriots' cornerback upgrades.
Leigh Bodden is returning from a lost season due to injury, and the Pats took Ras-I Dowling with the No. 33 pick. Butler could barely hold off special teamer Kyle Arrington for the starting right cornerback job last year. He'll probably be battling Jonathan Wilhite for the last corner spot on the roster.

Mon Dec 27 201010:25Butler regains starting role over Arrington?
It's possible Patriots CB Darius Butler has regained his starting spot.
Kyle Arrington was benched after allowing the Bills' two longest passing plays of the game, and Butler came on and played very well, batting down two passes, defending another and not allowing a single reception to a player he was covering. We might not know until the playoffs if Butler, who lost his starting spot in Week 2, will in fact start opposite LCB Devin McCourty, but there looks to be a good chance of it happening.

Sat Oct 30 201010:07Darius Butler still not starting at corner
Patriots CB Darius Butler has played sparingly since losing his starting job in Week 2.
The team's 2009 second round pick is playing primarily on special teams, and needs to right his on field play before regaining his starting job back. Said defensive backs coach Josh Boyer, "He's another guy who puts in his time and comes in for practice and works hard. When we put him out there, we have the utmost confidence he'll make plays for us."

Sat Oct 2 201013:39Arrington will start at CB for Patriots
Patriots CB Darius Butler is not expected to start Monday night against the Dolphins.
Kyle Arrington will draw the start, though the two are expected to split time. Arrington is a better option against the running game, so expect him to receive a majority of the snaps against a run heavy Dolphins offense in Week 4.

Fri Oct 1 201010:13Butler played just four snaps in Week 3
Patriots CB Darius Butler was on the field for just four snaps in last week's game against the Bills.
Undrafted free agent and special teamer Kyle Arrington got the start and played almost the entire game, as Ryan Fitzpatrick posted the fourth-highest yardage total of his 23 career starts. It's uncertain if Butler will get his starting job back any time soon. The Pats' corners are a plus matchup for opposing fantasy receivers this year.

Fri Sep 24 201015:08Darius Butler could lose starting job
Patriots RCB Darius Butler is reportedly in danger of losing his starting job to Kyle Arrington.
Arrington is a career special teamer and former undrafted free agent, but Butler's been one of the worst starting corners in football through two weeks. It's also not a good sign for Jonathan Wilhite that the Pats would use Arrington ahead of him. Luckily, Buffalo's inept passing game is on tape.

Wed Sep 1 201014:22Darius Butler moves to right cornerback
Darius Butler will move to right cornerback following the year-ending injury to Leigh Bodden.
Rookie Devin McCourty, repeatedly burned by the Rams in New England's third preseason game, will start at left cornerback. The Pats will field the NFL's least experienced starting corner tandem, which is of even greater concern due to their shortage of pass rushers. Tom Brady is going to be winging it.

Tue Jun 8 201010:31Darius Butler has edge to start
Patriots second-year CB Darius Butler is "the clubhouse leader" to start opposite Leigh Bodden this season.
He's got the edge over Devin McCourty, Jonathan Wilhite, and Terrence Wheatley. A five-game starter last year, Butler picked off three passes, but was up-and-down in coverage and needs to cut down on the penalties to keep the job.
