He was then assigned to Triple-A Columbus. Rivera signed a minor league deal with the Tribe over the offseason but wasn't able to pitch himself onto the big league roster before getting traded to the Diamondbacks in May. The 32-year-old allowed nine runs -- including two home runs -- over 3 2/3 innings for Arizona before they released him in June. Now he's back to square one with the Clippers. |

How very Howrian. Cameron Maybin and Dan Uggla hit back-to-back homers off Rivera, who was acquired from the Indians on Monday. The 32-year-old reliever gave up just four homers in 177 innings out of the pen for the Nats between 2007 and 2008, but he's not the same pitcher he was then. |

Diamondbacks acquired RHP Saul Rivera from the Indians for cash. |
Rivera joined up with the Tribe this offseason on a minor league contract, but hasn't been able to pitch himself out of Triple-A Columbus. He should be helpful in Arizona, though, where the late-innings bullpen corps has been a disaster. Chad Qualls is still the closer, and Aaron Heilman is probably next in line now. Rivera fits somewhere in middle relief. |
