While there are some big names in this bunch of cuts, none of the moves are terribly surprising. The 34-year-old Duncan struggled in Cactus League play, hitting just .208 (5-for-24) with no homers and five RBI. |

Fri Jan 24 2014 | 13:22 | Shelley Duncan signs with Diamondbacks |
Diamondbacks signed 1B/OF Shelley Duncan to a minor league contract. |
The deal seems likely to include an invitation to spring training. Duncan appeared in 20 games last season for the Rays, batting just .182/.297/.309 with two homers. A nice perk for the 34-year-old is that he's now in the same organization as his father, Dave, who signed on as a pitching consultant for the D'Backs earlier this winter. |

The lumbering 34-year-old slashed a putrid .182/.297/.309 with two homers and six RBI in 55 at-bats with the Indians in 2013, and wasn't much better with a .215/.287/.382 line at Triple-A. He'll likely have to settle for a minor league deal this offseason with an invitation to spring training |

Shelley Duncan hit his first career grand slam to account for all of the Indians' scoring Friday against the A's. |
Duncan was 7-for-20 (.350) with the bases loaded in his career, but his only extra-base hit was a double. If only the Indians would decide to release Duncan tomorrow (and no one else picked him up), he'd finish the season with 11 homers and 29 runs scored for the third straight year. However, it looks like he'll get another 60-80 at-bats to add to those totals. |

He finished up with two RBI. Duncan's big fly was a solo shot off Dan Haren in the fourth inning, and he also added a sacrifice fly. Duncan now has seven homers and 19 RBI on the season, though his atrocious .221 batting average is difficult to stomach for fantasy purposes. |

Sun Apr 1 2012 | 14:48 | Shelley Duncan earns left field job |
Indians manager Manny Acta said Shelley Duncan is his starting left fielder "for today." |
An expected decision. Duncan has just eight hits in 48 at-bats this spring, but five of them have left the yard. He'll be a butcher in the field but can be useful at the plate, particularly against left-handed pitching. Duncan will move back to the bench once Grady Sizemore comes back and Michael Brantley returns to left field. |

Wed Mar 21 2012 | 18:51 | Shelley Duncan hits fourth spring homer |
Shelley Duncan hit his fourth homer of the spring Wednesday, a two-run blast off the Giants' Eric Surkamp. |
Duncan is batting only .231 this spring, but his power surge from last September has carried over, as he's gone deep four times and driven in 12 runs. The Indians are cautious about putting him in the outfield on a daily basis, but as long as he keeps mashing, he has a shot to see significant playing time there until Grady Sizemore returns. |
