Figgins will be released by the Dodgers. |
Figgins was designated for assignment Wednesday after returning from the disabled list. The 36-year-old utility man hit just .217/.373/.267 over 38 games with the Dodgers this season, and will now look for work elsewhere. |
Wed Aug 6 2014 | 17:48 | The Dodgers designated Figgins (hip) for assignment Wednesday |
The Dodgers designated Figgins (hip) for assignment Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. |
A left quad strain put Figgins on the shelf in mid-June, and he didn't show enough during his 19-game rehab assignment to warrant a return to the active roster. The Dodgers essentially released Figgins on Wednesday, as the 11-year veteran seems likely to refuse an outright assignment to the minors and elect free agency. He hit just .217/.373/.267 in 38 games with the major league club. |

Figgins (hip) will either need to be called up by the Dodgers on Wednesday, or he will need to be designated for assignment, True Blue L.A.'s Eric Stephen reports. |
His 20-day rehab assignment is nearing an end, but manager Don Mattingly didn't sound as though he was leaning towards adding Figgins to the roster, so he will likely be designated for assignment. He hit just .217 with four steals in 38 games while up with the Dodgers this season, and on his 19-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque he is hitting just .286 with two steals, and may not fit into a spot with the Dodgers. |

Chone Figgins (hip) fielded grounders and took batting practice from both sides of the plate on Thursday. |
The Dodgers haven't mapped out Figgins' rehab assignment yet, but it's expected to come soon. Manager Don Mattingly also revealed that Figgins is dealing with a left hip flexor strain rather than the quad strain that was originally reported. |

Tue Jul 1 2014 | 22:15 | Chone Figgins (quad) not close to return |
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that Chone Figgins (quad) is "still a ways away" from a return. |
Figgins has already missed two and a half weeks and it doesn't sound like he'll be back before the All-Star break. "That quad is an injury that's one of the bigger muscles in the leg, and he's going to be a little bit still," Mattingly said. |

Dodgers placed UTIL Chone Figgins on the 15-day disabled list with a quadriceps strain. |
Carlos Triunfel was called up in a corresponding roster move. Figgins has been a disappointment again in 2014, batting just .217 with a .640 OPS in 38 games. He probably won't be ready to return until July. |

Figgins tallied no extra-base hits in 32 plate appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League. He signed a minor league contract with the Fish in February after the Mariners cut ties with him in November. The 35-year-old utilityman will try to latch on with a new team. |

Chone Figgins went 4-for-4 as the Marlins' second baseman Sunday versus the Braves. |

Chone Figgins went 0-for-2 with a walk on Thursday and is still hitless in 11 at-bats this spring. |
The slow start doesn't bode well for Figgins' chances of making the Marllins. Still, his ability to play five positions could get him a bench spot. |

Sun Dec 2 2012 | 10:09 | Phillies 'check in' on Chone Figgins |
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Phillies have "checked in" on Chone Figgins. |
Morosi notes that the extent of their interest is unclear at this time. The Phillies don't have starters locked in at third base or left field, so it makes sense that they have some interest in Figgins. Whether or not they view him as a regular isn't known. Figgins was cut loose last month by the Mariners, who ate the remaining $8 million on his contract. |

Wed Nov 28 2012 | 14:27 | Mariners officially cut ties with Figgins |
Mariners released INF/OF Chone Figgins. |
Figgins predictably didn't draw any interest on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this month. The 34-year-old batted just .227/.302/.283 with a .585 OPS over 308 games with the Seattle. The Mariners are still on the hook for the $8 million he's owed in 2013. Figgins will likely have to settle for a minor league deal this winter. |

Sun Nov 25 2012 | 09:09 | Rays could have interest in Chone Figgins |
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times believes the Rays could have interest in Chone Figgins. |
It sounds like mostly speculation at this point, but Figgins, who was designated for assignment by the Mariners last week, would make some sense because the Rays need help both at second base and left field. That said, he's probably not anyone's first choice given how he performed in Seattle. Topkin also lists Ryan Raburn as someone that could be a fit with the Rays. |

Mariners designated INF/OF Chone Figgins for assignment. |
And thus ends the tenure in Seattle of one of the biggest free agent busts in recent years. The Mariners still owed Figgins $8 million in the final year of his contract, but, given his sub-.190 average each of the last two seasons, they wisely just decided they were better off cutting ties. Figgins will turn 35 in January and might have to accept a minor league deal from someone. |

Thu Oct 4 2012 | 11:31 | Figgins no longer wants to play for Mariners |
Chone Figgins told John Hickey of SportsPressNW.com late Wednesday night that he wants out of Seattle. |
And we'd guess that the Mariners wouldn't mind seeing him go. Figgins has been a major disappointment since signing a four-year, $36 million free agent contract with the Mariners before the start of the 2010 season. He's batted just .227/.302/.283 with four home runs and 61 RBI in 308 games since. |

Jarrod Saltalamacchia couldn't hold on to the ball as Dustin Ackley scored on the play, giving the Mariners their second walkoff win of the series. Figgins, who started in left field for the second game in a row, didn't have a hit in five plate appearances tonight. Still, it was a nice moment for him. |

Thu May 24 2012 | 20:02 | M's not thinking about dumping Figgins |
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Thursday that parting ways with Chone Figgins is "not even a consideration" right now. |
There was plenty of speculation that Figgins would be shown the door when Miguel Olivo was activated from the disabled list, but much to the fans' chagrin, Casper Wells was optioned to the minors. Figgins has just 14 at-bats so far this month, so he's hardly a valuable member of the team at this point, so this sounds like an organization that refuses to acknowledge a sunk cost and the value of an open roster spot. |

Fri May 4 2012 | 19:29 | Mariners banish Chone Figgins to UT role |
Mariners manager Eric Wedge has announced Chone Figgins will no longer be an everyday player, and that Dustin Ackley will take over as Seattle's leadoff hitter. |
It's a move that's been three years in the making. Figgins has hit an absurdly poor .231/.304/.287 while stealing just 55 bases in 267 games since signing a four-year, $36 million deal in December 2009. He's hitting .189/.250/.305 through 108 plate appearances this season. Kyle Seager and Alex Liddi should split time at third going forward. The struggling Ackley's fantasy value gets a nice boost from his bump in the lineup. Figgins may never get another chance to be an everyday player. |
