Russ Springer has decided to retire after 18 seasons.
Springer, 42, actually announced before the 2004 season that he was going to retire, but he wisely changed his mind and squeezed out a few more very good seasons in the bullpen. "There comes a time when you can ask only so much of your body physically, and you've got to stop beating it up," Springer said. The right-hander finishes his career with a 4.53 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 rate over 740 appearances.
