Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (intercostal) won't be ready to return from a right-intercostal strain when he's eligible to come off the injured list on Tuesday, but he's close to resuming baseball activities. According to head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta, "his symptoms are improving dramatically." The Twins are being somewhat cautious to avoid a months-long absence with Correa given the setback-prone nature of his injury. The 29-year-old landed on the IL on April 13 with a mild intercostal strain. While there currently isn't a timetable for a return, he looks to be on the mend and could return in early May. Willi Castro is serving as the team's primary shortstop for now. Correa will hope to pick up where he left off when he returns, as he's so far hit .306 (11-for-36) with a homer and four RBI in 2024.

Minnesota Twins right fielder Max Kepler (knee) is on the verge of returning to the Twins' lineup after spending the past two weeks on the injured list with a right-knee contusion. Kepler played in games with Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, collecting four hits and three walks. He could be activated from the injured list as soon as Monday. At least against right-handed pitching, the 31-year-old left-handed hitter should be a regular in Minnesota's starting lineup once he returns in right field. Kepler's return could mean less playing time for Trevor Larnach, although he could pick up at-bats as the team's designated hitter. Before his injury, Kepler had just one hit in his first 20 at-bats in 2024 with no home runs, RBI or runs scored for the Twins.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Frankie Montas (forearm) left Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels early with a right-forearm bruise. X-rays on his arm showed no fracture after he was hit in the arm by a comebacker. It's good news that the 31-year-old doesn't have any kind of break in his arm, but Montas said that he's likely to miss his next start due to soreness and swelling. He recorded just two outs in Sunday's game before being hit in the arm, so he also may not be able to go very deep in his next start after taking at least one turn through the rotation off. The injured list is still a possibility if Montas isn't feeling great after missing one start. Montas has been up and down through his first five starts with the Reds in 2024, going 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA (5.33 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with 10 walks and 14 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull will head to the bullpen after Wednesday's start against the Cincinnati Reds. Turnbull has had a solid start to the season with an ERA of 1.23 in 22 innings pitched. He has allowed three runs through four games with 10 hits, 22 strikeouts, and seven walks. The return of Taijuan Walker (shoulder) is expected to happen during this weekend's series against the San Diego Padres. This will allow the Phillies to monitor Turnball with his move to the bullpen. With having pitched less than 57 innings since 2019, the Phillies would like to keep their pitching rotation safe and healthy. Turnbull should be held onto in deep-leagues while adding Walker. He went 15-6 in 2023 with a 4.38 ERA in 31 starts, adding a nice depth to rosters.

Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his second save in two days on Sunday, closing out the Chicago Cubs in a 6-3 win. Scott has gotten his season back on track in the past week, picking up three saves while allowing only two hits and two walks. Another big indicator that Scott might be returning to form is that he hasn't walked a batter in his last two appearances after walking an astronomical 12 batters in his first eight appearances. Fantasy managers should be encouraged by the results and have a little more confidence in Scott when determining lineups for next week.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Frankie Montas (undisclosed) left Sunday's game early after being hit by a comebacker off outfielder Taylor Ward. The ball struck Montas in his pitching arm, which was why he had to leave the game. Brent Suter replaced Montas as a result. There have not been any updates on the extent of the injury, so fantasy managers will have to keep a close eye on his status before his next scheduled start. Montas was off to a great start with his new team, as he did not allow an earned run until his third start. Since then, Montas has allowed nine earned runs. Brent Suter is an option to replace Montas in the rotation if he were to have an extended absence.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers (knee) had an MRI exam on Thursday morning that showed a bone bruise and no structural damage in his left knee, which he tweaked making a play on defense in Tuesday's loss. He sat out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but manager Alex Cora told reporters on Saturday that the team is aiming for Devers to return on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians. The Red Sox have a scheduled off day on Monday, so the club is hoping the 27-year-old will be feeling better by Tuesday. If he's not, he could join first baseman Triston Casas (rib) on the injured list, which would really put the team's infield in a bind. With both Devers and Casas hurt, Bobby Dalbec is going to see regular playing time, making him worth a short-term pickup in AL-only leagues.

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez is out of the team's starting lineup on Sunday as they take on the visiting Oakland Athletics. In Ramirez's absence, Gabriel Arias will start at the hot corner and bat eighth in the batting order against A's right-hander Ross Stripling. Ramirez, a five-time All-Star, has gotten off to a bit of a slow start by his standards this year, going 22-for-92 (.239) with three home runs, 18 RBI, one stolen base and 15 runs scored in his first 21 games played and 95 trips to the plate. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried, though, and he should be back in action on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox after a scheduled off day on Monday. Arias is hitting .302 (13-for-43) with a homer, seven RBI and a steal in the early going, but he's never faced Stripling in his career.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios threw six innings of shutout ball in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Padres, picking up his league-leading fourth win of the season. The outing was also his fifth straight quality start to begin the year and third straight in which he hasn't allowed a run. The 29-year-old is off to a great start, going 4-0 with a 0.85 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 27:9 K:BB. With a career ERA of 4.06 and 1.24 WHIP, however, he could be a good sell-high candidate. Either way, his next start lines up with what could be a pitchers' duel next Thursday against Cole Ragans and the Royals.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (calf) was removed from Saturday's game in Kansas City with calf tightness. Hayes was replaced in the seventh inning by Colton Cowser. It was later announced that he had injured his calf, which was why Hays was pulled from the game. The 28-year-old went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run before exiting. The severity of Hays' injury is unknown, and he is considered day-to-day. Hays has struggled this season, hitting .111 (5-for-45) with two RBI over 19 games. Cowser has surpassed Hays on the outfield depth chart, and fantasy managers can leave Hays on the waiver wire in most leagues even if he avoids a trip to the injured list.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chad Green (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right teres major strain. Green has been sidelined since Monday due to shoulder soreness and will miss at least the next few weeks with the move to the IL. The 32-year-old owned a 2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 7:2 K: BB across 7 2/3 innings in 2024. Nate Pearson was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to replace Green in the bullpen. Pearson posted a 1.11 WHIP and a 9:3 K: BB across 6 1/3 innings in 2024. With Jordan Romano (elbow) returning from injury and Yimi Garcia as the team's top setup man, Pearson is buried in Toronto's bullpen and mainly a fantasy option in deep leagues that reward holds.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander went six innings in his season debut on Friday and picked up the win in a 5-3 victory over the Nationals. The veteran hurler allowed two earned runs on four hits (one HR) and didn't walk a batter while striking out four. It looks like the 41-year-old won't miss a beat despite missing the first few weeks of the season. Even though his K% has gone down in three consecutive seasons and Contact% has gone up in each of those seasons, the 3x Cy Young winner has remained effective, going 13-8 last season with a 3.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 14.8% K-BB%. His next start lines up with the Cubs next Thursday in Chicago.

Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his third save of the season in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Scott gave up two singles to start the ninth but then retired the next three batter to avoid damage and seal the win without giving up a run. The 29-year-old hasn't gotten many opportunities for closes this season with the Marlins reeling, but he is now three-for-four in close situations and has a 3.72 ERA. Scott will look to pick up at least one more save this weekend with game two of the Saturday doubleheader happening tonight and the series finale against the Cubs happening on Sunday.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes struck out nine in seven shutout innings on Saturday in the Yankees 2-0 extra innings loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Cortes didn't walk a single batter but gave up six hits. It was the lefty's second-best start of the season but he unfortunately didn't record a win with New York's offense putting up a bagel on the scoreboard. Through five starts, Cortes now has a 3.41 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. The 29-year-old should continue his dominant ways in his next scheduled start on Thursday when the Yankees host the Oakland A's, who are hitting lefties for just a .637 OPS.

Cincinnati Reds infielder Jeimer Candelario (illness) is back in the starting lineup Saturday against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Patrick Sandoval. The veteran has been out since being scratched from Tuesday's contest with an illness, but he appears to be feeling better and will man the hot corner and hit cleanup against the southpaw on Saturday. It's been a slow start to the season for the 30-year-old, who is hitting just .190 with a couple of homers and a .649 OPS across his first 64 trips to the plate after he set career-highs with 22 homers and eight stolen bases across 140 games between the Nationals and Cubs in the 2023 campaign.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's afternoon contest against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. Chapman did his part on Friday by going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk but his team was blown out to the tune of a 17-1 final score as the Giants mustered just four hits on the night. The 30-year-old has flashed some power with four homers and five doubles on the young season but is also hitting just .205 with a .677 OPS across his first 90 trips to the plate in a Giants uniform. The Giants are just 9-12 on the young season despite a busy offseason that saw them add a number of notable free agents, including Chapman.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers (knee) remains out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bobby Dalbec is getting the start at the hot corner and is batting sixth in the lineup versus Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Devers is dealing with a bone bruise in his left knee and will miss his third straight game. The 27-year-old is going to need to return to the lineup soon to avoid landing on the injured list. The Red Sox's bench is pretty short-handed right now with outfielder Tyler O'Neill on the seven-day concussion injured list. Dalbec has never faced Keller in his career and has just one hit with two walks and 13 strikeouts in 24 plate appearances over 12 games so far in 2024 as a bench option for the BoSox.

The Tampa Bay Rays selected the contract of right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Saturday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. The Rays also moved infielder Taylor Walls (hip) to the 60-day injured list. Ramirez will join Tampa's bullpen for the first time in 2024 after giving up two earned runs while striking out 13 in 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Bulls on the farm. The 33-year-old is unlikely to be a fantasy asset after posting a 6.41 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings over 38 appearances (two starts) for the Rays and Washington Nationals. Ramirez has only struck out 6.8 batters per nine innings in his 12-year MLB career.

The Detroit Tigers placed infielder Gio Urshela (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a right-hamstring strain and recalled infielder Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Urshela was removed from Friday night's win over the Minnesota Twins with right-hamstring tightness after running to first base and will now miss at least the next 10 days. Kennedy will provide infield depth for the Tigers in the meantime, but Matt Vierling is the most likely candidate to see most of the playing time at the hot corner in Detroit until Urshela is able to return. Vierling is at third and batting fifth on Saturday against Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. Although Urshela doesn't have a homer this year, he was hitting .298 (17-for-57) with six RBI at the time of his injury on Friday night.

New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is getting the day off on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Judge is serving as the team's designated hitter and will bat third, while Trent Grisham is starting in center field and hitting sixth against Rays right-hander Zach Eflin. Stanton went 0-for-4 on Friday night and is now hitting .238 (15-for-63) in his first 16 games this year with five home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored, four walks and 21 strikeouts in 67 plate appearances. Judge is a must-start in regular fantasy leagues every day, but as a DFS play he's one to avoid on Saturday with a .111 average in nine career at-bats against Eflin. Grisham has hit .167 against Eflin in his six career at-bats. Judge has struggled to get going in 2024, hitting .189 with three home runs and 11 RBI.
