CHICAGO (AP) — The New York Yankees have placed Kendrys Morales on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain.Morales is the 20th player to go on the IL this year for New York, matching its total for the entire 2018 season. The first baseman/designated hitter had three hits in the Yankees' 12-5 victory over the Mets on Tuesday but did not play in the second half of the doubleheader.The Yankees also recalled outfielder Mike Tauchman and left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. before Thursday night's game against the Chicago White Sox. They had an open roster spot after lefty Stephen Tarpley was sent down Wednesday.Morales, who turns 36 next Thursday, was acquired in a May 15 trade with Oakland. NEW YORK (AP) — The Yankees have acquired veteran slugger Kendrys Morales from the Oakland Athletics.New York is also getting $8,491,452 from Oakland to cover most of the $8,903,226 remaining in Morales' $12 million salary. That leaves the Yankees to pay $411,774, a prorated share of the $555,000 minimum.As part of the deal announced Tuesday night, the Yankees will send Oakland a player to be named or cash.Oakland acquired Morales from Toronto on March 27, and the Blue Jays agreed to send the A's $11,445,000 as part of that swap. The 13-year major league veteran appeared in 34 games. SEATTLE (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have designated slugger Kendrys Morales for assignment and activated Mark Canha from the 10-day injured list.Morales was acquired from Toronto on March 27. The 13-year major league veteran appeared in 34 games and hit .204 with one home run and seven RBIs with the A's. Morales is in the final year of a $33 million, three-year deal and is due $12 million this season.Canha was added to the roster ahead of Monday's series opener in Seattle and was in the starting lineup in left field. Canha had been on the injured list since April 29 with a sprained right wrist. (AP) — Gold Glove first baseman Matt Olson has returned to the Oakland Athletics after having surgery on his right hand earlier this season.Olson was activated from the injured list and outfielder Skye Bolt was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Also, slugger Khris Davis was scratched before Tuesday night's game against Cincinnati because of a sore left hip he hurt over the weekend.Olson had surgery on March 22 to remove a hamate bone. He was injured a day earlier when he fouled a pitch off his hand in his final at-bat during the second of the Athletics' two regular-season games against Seattle in Japan.Olson hit .182 (4 for 22) with a home run and two RBIs in five rehab games at Triple-A.Davis was in manager Bob Melvin's original lineup for the series opener against the Reds, but was scratched two hours before the first pitch.
