Sat Mar 26 202212:21Evan Longoria Has Right Finger Tendinitis
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (finger) is dealing with right index finger tendinitis, but he is participating in all baseball workouts in camp and will be re-evaluated next week for spring training game activity. Longoria said the pain in his finger stems from when he was hit by a pitch late last season. The 34-year-old doesn't appear to be in danger of missing the start of the 2022 regular season, but it's a bit concerning that he's still having issues with the finger. The three-time All-Star hit .261/.351/.482 with 13 home runs, 46 RBI and 45 runs scored in 291 plate appearances over 81 games for San Fran in 2021 and is currently ranked as the No. 26 third baseman in fantasy at RotoBaller.

Tue Oct 12 202110:38Evan Longoria Hits Pivotal Homer Monday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria could not have had a bigger first hit of the postseason in Monday's NLDS Game 3 1-0 win over the Dodgers, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a strikeout. Longo crushed a fifth-inning Max Scherzer fastball over the center field wall for what would be the winning run. The veteran is just 1-for-10 in the postseason to this point, but the Giants can forgive that as long as the hits he does collect have a big impact.

Sat Oct 2 202114:27Evan Longoria Absent From Saturday's Lineup
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria will start Saturday on the bench, according to MLB.com. The 35-year old veteran has put together his best campaign since his days with the Tampa Bay Rays, slashing .266/.357/.492 with 13 HRs over 79 games this season. With Longoria out of the lineup, Darin Ruf will play first base and bat third. Ruff's having his best season in a major-league uniform, hitting .271 with 16 HRs and a .910 OPS in 116 games. He should be streamed in every league by any fantasy managers looking for offensive production.

Tue Sep 14 202119:21Evan Longoria Isn't In Tuesday's Lineup
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria isn't starting Tuesday night's game against the San Diego Padres and right-hander Jake Arrieta. Longoria is batting .293 with a .391 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a stolen base in 233 plate appearances this season. Kris Bryant is hitting sixth and starting at third base against Arrieta. While Longoria is getting the day off on Tuesday, he has started five of San Francisco's last six games. As long as he's starting regularly for the Giants, the veteran will be a quality option for fantasy managers down the stretch.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria made his one at-bat count in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies, going 1-for-1 with a two-run double to provide some late insurance runs. The veteran has battled injuries this season but has been effective at the plate when healthy, slashing .286/.389/.514 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI over 216 plate appearances. He is worth sticking in fantasy lineups when he plays, but his injury risk limits his upside.

Fri Sep 3 202118:41Evan Longoria Reinstated From Injured List
The San Francisco Giants reinstated third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) from the 10-day injured list on Friday. Fellow infielder Mauricio Dubon was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the active roster. Longoria has been productive at the plate so far for both the Giants and fantasy managers this season, hitting .289 with a .382 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and a stolen base in 199 plate appearances. Longoria can certainly help your fantasy team down the stretch, but his playing time will be worth monitoring with Kris Bryant also on hand as an option at third base in San Francisco.

Tue Aug 24 202120:39Evan Longoria Placed On The 10-Day IL Tuesday
San Francisco Giants' third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right-hand contusion. He was placed on the COVID IL after experiencing side effects from the vaccine. The 35-year-old has been sidelined since last Tuesday and has appeared in only five games since being activated from the injured list on August 14. Longoria is slashing .289/.382/.526 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI over 55 games in 2021. Fantasy managers in deep-league formats should continue to stash the veteran third baseman. Kris Bryant will continue to handle third base duties while Longoria is sidelined.

Sun Aug 22 202116:02Evan Longoria Lands On COVID IL Sunday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (vaccine) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Sunday, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Slusser reports that his placement is vaccine related, as it is believed that he is dealing with side effects from a booster shot, as he had previously received the vaccine. This shouldn't keep him out of action for too long, and he could be ready to return in time for the start of the Giants' upcoming series with the Mets.

Wed Aug 18 202114:25Evan Longoria, Buster Posey Sitting On Wednesday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria and catcher Buster Posey are both absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Tylor Megill and the New York Mets. Curt Casali is getting the start behind the plate while Kris Bryant (hamstring) returns from a one-game absence to man third base. Both Longoria and Posey sat out Sunday's game, then went on to play two straight games before getting Wednesday off. Both players should continue to be out of the lineup about twice per week going forward.

Wed Aug 18 202112:58Evan Longoria Collects Three Hits, Homers Tuesday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria had a big day at the plate in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mets. Longo went 3-for-3 with two singles and a solo home run. The seventh-inning blast was his 10th HR of the season and his first since returning from the injured list. The 35-year-old has had a productive season when healthy, slashing .291/.384/.529 with 31 RBI in 198 plate appearances. There is no reason fantasy managers should not have him in their lineups as long as he is healthy and hitting.

Tue Aug 10 202121:15Evan Longoria Could Be Activated Wednesday
San Francisco Giants' third baseman Evan Longoria (shoulder) could be activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. The Giants are going to give him a chance to rest and recover from his rehab assignment. He played in four games since beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento last Thursday. Longoria is set for additional rehab games, and the Giants have no reason to rush him back. The 35-year-old slashed .280/.376/.516 with nine home runs, 30 RBI, and 28 runs scored across 186 plate appearances before landing on the injured list. Once activated, Longoria could see a reduced role as newly acquired Kris Bryant is expected to handle the hot corner for the rest of the season.

Sat Jul 31 202100:35Splash! Giants land Bryant from Cubs just before deadline
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Kris Bryant was the face of the Chicago Cubs for a long time. His new bosses in San Francisco were thrilled that joining the Giants meant so much to him, despite the emotions of leaving the only major league team he's ever known. Bryant grew up in Las Vegas and loved to watch Giants slugger Barry Bonds — and now the versatile star will get a chance to play not only in the home run king's former spot in left field, but all over the diamond. The first-place Giants made a big splash just before the trade deadline Friday by acquiring Bryant from the Cubs for two minor leaguers. “Could not be more excited to be a Giant,” president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said. “I’ve had a number of phone calls after trades with players. Never spoken to a player more excited to be coming to a new organization.” The 29-year-old Bryant, whose NL MVP season of 2016 helped the Cubs win their first World Series title in 108 years, got word while wearing his Chicago uniform and was... Fri Jul 30 202118:55Splash! Giants land Bryant from Cubs just before deadline
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The first-place San Francisco Giants made a big splash just before the trade deadline Friday, acquiring star slugger Kris Bryant from the Chicago Cubs for two minor leaguers. San Francisco sought an experienced third baseman given the club has been without Evan Longoria because of a sprained shoulder since June 5, when he got hurt in a collision with shortstop Brandon Crawford. Longoria is on the 60-day injured list. Chicago received right-hander Caleb Kilian and outfielder Alexander Canario in the deal. The 29-year-old Bryant, who can become a free agent after this season, was one of the top position players available on the market as the disappointing Cubs sold off several stars. He is batting .267 with 18 home runs and 51 RBIs. The versatile Bryant, a four-time All-Star, was the 2015 NL Rookie of the Year and 2016 NL MVP, when he helped the Cubs win the World Series to end a 108-year championship drought. The surprising Giants began the day with a three-game lead in the NL West over their biggest rivals, the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. ___ AP Baseball Writer Mike Fitzpatrick contributed. ___ More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Mon Jul 19 202122:22Giants All-Star shortstop Crawford goes on injured list
LOS ANGELES (AP) — San Francisco's injury woes have now hit arguably its best player during the first half of the season. The Giants placed All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford on the 10-day injured list Monday due to an oblique strain. The move came as they opened a pivotal four-game series against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Gabe Kapler said Crawford's MRI revealed a mild strain, and he was hopeful it would be a short stint on the IL. “We understand we have a big challenge ahead of us. Just knowing he is not going to be available is tough for him,” Kapler said. “If there is a silver lining, it does give him a break and allows us to build him up to full strength.” Crawford is ninth in the NL in batting average (.286) and RBIs (58). He was also on a tear with five games of three hits or more in his last 10, along with going 20 for 39 over the last 11 games. Crawford — who had started 73 of the Giants' first 91 games at shortstop — said he noticed something wrong after his final... [More]
Thu Jul 15 202102:50LEADING OFF: Bosox-Yanks open 2nd half; trade deadline looms
A look at what’s happening around the majors today: START IT UP The second half begins with one game when Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers and the AL East-leading Red Sox visit Yankee Stadium. Left-hander Eduardo Rodríguez (6-5, 5.52 ERA) starts for Boston, which holds a 1 1/2-game edge over Tampa Bay. New York and Toronto are eight games behind the Red Sox. J.D. Martinez and the Red Sox have wrecked the Yankees lately, going 6-0 against their longtime rivals this season and outscoring them 36-17 in those matchups. The Yankees, who haven’t announced their rotation for this three-game series, face Boston eight times in their first 10 games coming out of the All-Star break. The stretch could decide whether New York is a buyer or seller heading into the July 30 trade deadline. TRADE WINDS The clock is ticking -- two weeks for contenders to make deals before the deadline. Need some home runs? Nelson Cruz keeps connecting at age 41, hitting 18 this year while batting .304 for Minnesota. The Target... [More]
