A 2010 fourth-round pick, Owusu-Ansah has played nearly as many positions as he has NFL games, but will be a defensive back for the Raiders. He'll be a special teamer if he makes the team out of camp, however. A former Dolphin and Viking, Shuler hasn't appeared in a game since 2010.

Owusu-Ansah was originally drafted by Dallas in the fourth round two years ago. Held back early in his career by a pre-draft labrum tear, he's been primarily a special teamer in the NFL. Rogers is a camp leg behind Chris Jones.

Owusu-Ansah's rookie season ended early due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 8 last season. He said he's back running and doing drills. Owusu-Ansah averaged a pedestrian 21.7 yards per kickoff return last season.

Cowboys placed KR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, ending his season.
Owusu-Ansah was injured in Week 8 and had a 4-6 week timetable to return, but the Cowboys want the extra roster space. Bryan McCann returned kicks in Week 9 and should get a shot to remain in the role for the rest of the season.

That means he's likely to miss 4-6 weeks. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram lists Dez Bryant, Tashard Choice and Felix Jones as possible replacements for Owusu-Ansah on kick returns.

Cowboys KR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah sprained his ankle against the Jaguars Sunday and was in a walking boot following the game.
Owusu-Ansah is set for more testing on Monday. Tashard Choice will likely serve as the Cowboys' kick returner if Owusu-Ansah can't go against the Packers in Week 9.

On the same day that S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (shoulder) began practicing with the Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones suggested that the rookie could be a factor as a returner "right off the bat."
NFL legend and Wade's father, Bum Phillips, told Jones that he never "docked" kick returners from small schools. "Once you see players excel in that area, even at small schools, it tends to carry over," said Jones. Keep an eye on AOA later in the preseason. He certainly has the explosiveness to take over kickoff return duties.

The Cowboys will place CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (shoulder) and LB Stephen Hodge on the active/PUP list to begin camp.
They'll be eligible to come off the list at any time. Since they can't practice yet, the Cowboys don't have to count Hodge and AOA against their 80-man roster limit. The team will have to make two cuts once the players get healthy.

According to Akwasi Owusu-Ansah's agent, the rookie safety is expected to be recovered from offseason shoulder surgery by the second week of camp.
The news was tweeted by agent Nate Haber. Owusu-Ansah's rehab appears to have gone as planned. Dallas is the first team to open training camp, so AOA shouldn't fall too far behind as he attempts to pick up the defense.

A cornerback and game-breaking returner at Indiana (PA), Owusu-Ansah's conversion to safety has yet to begin due to offseason shoulder surgery. Still a highly intriguing long-term prospect, "AOA" could be Dallas' free safety of the future. He has good size, and possesses ideal speed and ball skills.
