Sat Jun 2912:10Gavin Sheets Back In Action For White Sox
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (heel) has returned to the team's starting lineup on Saturday, serving as the designated hitter while batting cleanup against the visiting Colorado Rockies and right-hander Cal Quantrill. Sheets was removed from Wednesday's game early against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to a bruised left heel and missed the last two games as a result, but he's back in there now and in the heart of Chicago's lineup. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger doesn't really move the needle all that much in fantasy, especially on a really bad White Sox team, while slashing .243/.339/.410 with a .749 OPS, seven long balls, 28 RBI and 22 runs scored in 239 at-bats. In 10 career at-bats versus Quantrill, Sheets has two hits (one homer) and two RBI.

Fri Jun 2817:11Gavin Sheets Remains Absent On Friday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (heel) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies. It will be the second straight game that Sheets has been held out after he departed Wednesday's game early with a left-heel contusion. The 28-year-old's injury isn't considered serious, though, and he remains day-to-day. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will want to check back to see if he's available for the second game of the series in Chicago on Saturday. Now that Eloy Jimenez is back, Sheets will be more of a fourth-outfield type for the Pale Hose, further limiting his fantasy appeal. The former second-round selection in 2017 out of Wake Forest, Sheets has produced a mediocre .243/.337/.410 slash line with a .747 OPS, seven homers, 28 RBI and 22 runs scored in his 239 at-bats this year.

Thu Jun 2713:38Gavin Sheets Out On Thursday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (heel) is out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the visiting Atlanta Braves. Sheets was removed from Wednesday's contest against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers early with a bruised left heel, so it's not a huge surprise that he's being held out the following day. The good news is that the 28-year-old left-handed hitter is day-to-day after X-rays on his foot came back negative. When he's able to return, Sheets will probably only see action in Chicago's outfield against right-handed pitching now that Eloy Jimenez is back in the fold. With Sheets sitting on Thursday, Corey Julks will get the start in left field and bat sixth in a tough matchup against Braves left-hander Chris Sale. Julks will be a low-upside dice roll for DFS lineups with his .223 average (21-for-94) and only three home runs on the year.

Wed Jun 2623:03Gavin Sheets Injured On Wednesday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (heel) left Wednesday night's shutout loss to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers early with a jammed left heel. Sheets is being further evaluated. Before leaving the game prematurely, Sheets went 1-for-2 with a double. He was replaced in right field by Corey Julks. Even if Sheets' injury isn't serious and he's day-to-day, there's a good chance he won't be in the starting lineup for Thursday's contest against the visiting Atlanta Braves. The 28-year-old outfielder had been hot entering Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers, going 8-for-22 (.364) with two doubles and a run scored in his last six games to raise his season line to .241/.336/.405 with seven long balls, 28 RBI and 22 runs scored in 237 at-bats for the Pale Hose.UPDATE: X-rays came back negative on Sheets, and he's considered day-to-day with a bruised heel.

Fri Apr 509:45Gavin Sheets Extends On-Base Streak
Chicago White Sox first baseman/designated hitter Gavin Sheets went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in Thursday's loss versus the Kansas City Royals. His performance extends his on-base streak to seven consecutive plate appearances. For the season, Sheets is 3-for-8 with four walks and a RBI. Although the mini streak is nice, Sheets is only filling in for Eloy Jimenez (adductor) and is likely to move back to the bench upon his return. Sheets can remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Fri Apr 503:58Gavin Sheets Extends On-Base Streak To Seven Plate Appearances
Chicago White Sox first baseman Gavin Sheets went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in a 10-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Sheets has now been on base in seven consecutive plate appearances. The 27-year-old might start seeing more playing time if he continues to hit well, as the Sox are looking for anyone with a pulse at this point. Sheets has shown some upside in the past and is worth keeping an eye on in deeper fantasy leagues, although he can probably be left on the wire for now.

Mon Apr 112:01Gavin Sheets Making First Start Of The Year
With Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (groin) out of action on Monday against the Atlanta Braves, outfielder Gavin Sheets will make his first start of the season for the White Sox. Sheets is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth versus Braves right-hander Charlie Morton. Jimenez is likely to land on the injured list with his injury, so Sheets figures to see more playing time moving forward, at least against right-handed pitching. The left-handed-hitting Sheets is hitless in two at-bats with a strikeout to begin the 2024 regular season. The 27-year-old showed promise in his rookie campaign in 2021 but has been dismal at the plate the last two years. If Sheets doesn't improve in Year 4 in Chicago, he might not stick around for long.

Sat Feb 312:05Gavin Sheets Makes Offseason Swing Changes
After a dismal season in 2023, Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets tried to become "more athletic" with his swing this offseason, getting better ball flight while making mechanical changes. The 27-year-old lefty reached double-digit home runs in each of his first three major-league seasons, but he slashed an awful .203/.267/.331 in 344 plate appearances for the Pale Hose in 2023. He worked with a new, younger hitting coach out of Philadelphia this offseason. "Just getting my upper body more on posture. Getting back more to the middle of the field," Sheets said. "I kind of bought in a little bit to the new age of hitting and used all the data that was available. I went away from the old-school model and pulled in everything." Sheets could be sent back to the minors if he struggles early on in 2024, and he's going to need to improve on fastballs.

Sat May 20 202313:45Gavin Sheets Out With A Jammed Wrist
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (wrist) has been scratched from Saturday's lineup with a jammed right wrist. Sheets sustained the injury during Friday's game on a slide. For now, it appears as if he's avoided a stint on the injured list but he'll most likely be out a couple of games. Adam Haseley is starting in right field and batting eighth in his place.

Fri Mar 31 202316:50Gavin Sheets, Oscar Colas Starting On Friday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets and outfielder Oscar Colas are both in the starting lineup on Friday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier. Andrew Vaughn will start on the bench. Sheets is at first base and is batting sixth, while Colas is in right field and hitting eighth in the order. The 26-year-old lefty-hitting Sheets should see occasional starts between first base and the outfield against right-handed pitchers in 2023, while Colas should see the strong side of a right field platoon in Chicago. Sheets has a bit of pop but has been a below-average hitter at the MLB level. Colas had his first major-league hit as a pinch-hitter on Opening Day. The 24-year-old will likely be inconsistent in his first MLB campaign, but he also has 30-homer upside.

Fri Aug 5 202216:50Gavin Sheets Absent Again Friday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Texas Rangers. Sheets is currently dealing with a bruised ankle and will miss his third straight game. Continue to consider him day-to-day. The 26-year-old is hitting .230/.289/.391 with nine home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in 235 at-bats in 2022. Andrew Vaughn is starting in right field on Friday and is batting fifth against Rangers right-hander Glenn Otto. Vaughn has been solid for fantasy managers this year, slashing .299/.349/.461 with an .810 OPS, 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 42 runs scored in 321 at-bats for the Pale Hose. In 11 games since the All-Star break, he's gone 12-for-42 (.286) with no homers, two RBI and six runs scored.

Thu Sep 2 202108:11Gavin Sheets Hits Two Home Runs
Chicago White Sox infielder Gavin Sheets was recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday and went straight to work in the teams victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sheets went 2-for-3 on the evening with two homers and four RBI. The youngster started things off with a three-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning and then followed that up with a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sheets showed plenty of power earlier in the year and now has eight home runs to go along with 20 RBI and a .239 batting average in 92 at-bats. It's unclear how much playing time Sheets will be getting moving forward, but managers seeking cheap power should monitor his situation in the coming days.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Two people who were in one of the cars later walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds and were being questioned by investigators, Benedict said, and the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear. Investigators were still trying to locate the second vehicle involved in the shooting.
