Wed Sep 400:44Patrick Corbin Fans Eight In Tuesday's Win
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin took advantage of a favorable matchup in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Marlins. Corbin pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. The 35-year-old veteran has put together a modest three-game win streak in which he has allowed three total runs in 17 2/3 IP with 22 strikeouts. However, he still owns a poor 5-12 record on the season with a 5.41 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and a 7.12 K/9 rate in 28 starts and 153 IP. His next start will be another favorable one at the Pirates, but fantasy managers may want to avoid starting him given his low floor.

Wed Aug 2800:32Patrick Corbin Shuts Down Yankees In Tuesday's Win
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin improved to 4-12 on Tuesday, pitching a gem against a tough Yankees lineup in a 4-2 win. Corbin pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The 35-year-old veteran has strung together two consecutive quality starts, but his overall season numbers are still poor with a 5.50 ERA, a 6.90 K/9 rate, and a 2.93 BB/9 rate in 27 starts and 147 1/3 IP. His next start will be a much more favorable matchup at the Marlins. Even so, fantasy managers may not want to trust Corbin so close to fantasy playoffs.

Fri Aug 2310:05Patrick Corbin Shows Up In Victory
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin earned his seventh quality start of the season on Thursday versus the Colorado Rockies. The veteran earned it by going six innings with four hits, one run, one walk and eight strikeouts. The veteran has been a rollercoaster all season and is now 3-12 with an ugly 5.73 ERA in 26 starts. Next up for the left-hander will be a date against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Corbin should be avoided in that matchup and in general moving forward with his inconsistencies on the mound.

Fri Jul 2608:36Patrick Corbin Snags Quality Start In Loss
Despite a nice performance on Thursday, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin fell to 2-10 on the season. Corbin tossed seven innings, allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and striking out seven, but it would not come close to his opponent, Dylan Cease's no-hitter. Despite the loss, Corbin has been put together back-to-back quality starts and it will be interesting to see if the Nationals are able to move the veteran at the upcoming trade deadline. Regardless of where he is pitching, Corbin is nothing more than a streaming option in the most favorable matchups. Next up for Corbin will be a date on the road against his former team, the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Sat Jun 106:19Patrick Corbin Turns In Quality Start Friday
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin took a hard-luck loss in a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Corbin turned in a quality start, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out five and walking three. Despite the solid start, the veteran southpaw saw his record drop to 1-6 on the season, to go along with a 5.83 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts over 66 1/3 innings of work. Corbin's recent track record suggests that he should not be trusted in fantasy leagues moving forward.

Fri May 314:18Patrick Corbin Looking To Get Straightened Out Friday
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin will look to get straightened out on Friday when he toes the rubber against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. The 34-year-old yielded seven runs his last time out against the Miami Marlins, and while only four were earned, it's the fifth time in six starts this season in which he had yielded at least four earned runs. He coughed up eight hits, including a homer, alongside a pair of walks in just four innings his last time out. The ugly outing raised his ERA to 6.82 through six starts this season after he tossed a 5.20 ERA across 32 starts last season. He will take on a Jays team that sports a .314 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season, good for a share of 13th league-wide.

Fri Mar 112:50Patrick Corbin Incorporating A New Cutter
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin looked better in his second Grapefruit League outing on Thursday while incorporating more of his newest pitch, a cutter. He needed 49 pitches to complete 1 2/3 innings last Saturday, but on Thursday he cruised through three innings on 41 pitches (32 strikes) and didn't allow a run or walk a batter while scattering three hits and striking out four. One of his K's came on his new cutter. Corbin induced swings on six of the seven cutters he threw (three whiffs). The 34-year-old southpaw plans to continue using the cutter to complement his traditional fastballs-slider combo that he has struggled with in recent seasons. It's something to keep an eye on, but most fantasy managers are avoiding Corbin this year after he had a weak 15.7% strikeout rate last year.

Tue Sep 5 202313:52Patrick Corbin Looking To Bounce Back Tuesday
Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin will be in search of a bounce-back effort Tuesday night when he takes on the New York Mets at Nationals Park. The veteran left-hander was touched up for six earned runs on 10 hits and one walk across five innings against the Blue Jays his last time out. He has largely been plagued by inconsistency again this season but previously went four straight starts allowing three earned runs or fewer before his latest hiccup. For the season, Corbin sports a 4.90 ERA across 27 starts, his best mark since the shortened 2020 season. The southpaw will take on a Mets offense that is tied for 22nd with a .306 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season.

Fri Jul 14 202312:00Nationals Place Patrick Corbin On Paternity List
The Washington Nationals placed left-hander Patrick Corbin on the paternity list on Friday and recalled right-hander Paolo Espino from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Corbin was not scheduled to pitch this weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals in the first series of the second half of the season, so he's unlikely to miss his first start of the second half. The 33-year-old southpaw continues to be tough to trust in fantasy leagues, as he gave up a league-high 135 hits in the first half of the season while also recording a 4.89 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.55 WHIP, 33 walks and only 74 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings over his 19 starts. Corbin also leads the league with 10 losses. Things continue to go downhill for him after coming over from Arizona in 2019.

Fri Mar 24 202313:14Patrick Corbin To Start On Opening Day
The Washington Nationals announced on Friday that left-hander Patrick Corbin will take the hill on Opening Day on Thursday, March 30, to face the division-rival Atlanta Braves. Corbin will get the nod despite going 6-19 with a career-worst 6.31 ERA (4.83 FIP), 1.69 WHIP and career-low 18 percent strikeout rate in 152 2/3 innings pitched and 31 starts for the Nationals in 2022. The 33-year-old has pitched better in Grapefruit League action this spring, but there shouldn't be too many fantasy managers in deeper leagues that should feel bold enough to roll the dice on Corbin in their starting lineups on Opening Day against the National League East defending-champion Braves next week.

Tue Mar 21 202300:25Patrick Corbin Gaining Confidence This Spring
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin said Monday that he is "as confident as I've ever been" this spring. It showed in Monday's 3-2 win over the Mets, as Corbin pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and no walks with five strikeouts. The veteran has compiled a respectable 3.86 ERA over 14 innings this spring with 13 strikeouts and a 1.14 WHIP. While the Nationals sound cautiously optimistic about Corbin's performance to this point, it has been several seasons since he has been a higher-end fantasy option, yet alone a mediocre one. Fantasy managers should wait to see extended success from Corbin before thinking of trusting him.

Fri Sep 30 202214:09Patrick Corbin To Make One More Start Sunday
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin (back) will make one more start in 2022 on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Corbin left his last start early on Sept. 20 with back spasms and had his next start skipped, but he'll return this weekend to make his final start of an absolutely brutal season. The 33-year-old southpaw is 6-18 with a rough 6.08 ERA (4.85 FIP), a 1.66 WHIP and a 125:46 K:BB in 148 innings over 30 starts. He leads baseball in losses, hits allowed (200) and earned runs (100). Corbin has allowed one or no runs in three of his four September starts, though, but he also gave up five runs in 6 2/3 innings in his last start against Philadelphia on Sept. 9. Nobody still playing for a fantasy championship should be looking to Corbin to help them.

Wed Sep 21 202211:20Patrick Corbin Dealing With Back Spasms
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin (back) was pulled from his start early on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves due to back spasms. He will give it a few days before seeing how he feels and if he can make his next scheduled start. The 33-year-old southpaw only threw 12 pitches and recorded two outs before hitting the showers against Atlanta. With the Nationals well out of contention and with nothing left to play for in the final couple weeks of the season, they won't rush Corbin back to the mound. It's been an extremely disappointing season for Corbin, as he's gone 6-18 with a rough 6.08 ERA (4.85 FIP), a 1.66 WHIP and a 125:46 K:BB in 148 innings over his 30 starts. He leads the league in hits allowed (200) and earned runs (100).

Tue Aug 9 202218:38Patrick Corbin To Be Skipped In The Rotation
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin will have his next start in the rotation skipped, according to manager Dave Martinez. The organization has an off day on Thursday, so this will allow them to execute this plan without putting any further strain on the rest of their rotation. Corbin has lost 16 games this season and holds a 7.02 ERA through 23 starts this season. The rebuilding Nats likely want to get some younger pitchers more innings down the stretch of the season. It's unknown if Corbin will pitch again this season, but he's owed $32 million for the 2023 season. This is turning out to be a nightmare contract for the Nationals.

Wed Jun 29 202214:20Patrick Corbin Strikes Out 12 Tuesday
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin has not been a fantasy contributor for some time, but he showed flashes of his old self Tuesday, striking out 12 Pittsburgh Pirates in a 3-1 win. Corbin went eight innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks. Now with a 4-10 record for the season, this performance improved his ERA and WHIP to 6.06 and 1.79, respectively. It would take several more strong performances in a row to make Corbin even close to a fantasy option.

Wed Apr 27 202216:49Patrick Corbin Confirmed As Thursday's Starter
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin threw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Nationals manager Davey Martinez stated that the team wanted to make sure he was fine after the session before officially declaring him good to go for his next start. He has indeed been cleared by the team and he will make his next start on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. The 32-year-old is off to a nightmarish start to the 2022 season. Through four starts, he's gone 0-3 with an 11.20 ERA and a 2.56 WHIP.

Sat Apr 2 202216:11Patrick Corbin Named Opening Day Starter For The Nats
Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin will be the team's Opening Day starter when they host the Mets on Thursday, April 7. Coming off a truly horrendous season in which he led the majors in losses (16), earned runs (111) and home runs allowed (37), the 32-year-old southpaw is looking to bounce back in 2022. He's had an excellent spring so far, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through nine innings (two starts) of Grapefruit League play. He's a low-risk dart throw in fantasy, considering it shouldn't take much to improve on his ugly 5.82 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 143:60 K:BB over 171 2/3 innings from last season.

Wed Sep 29 202118:56Patrick Corbin Done For The Season
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin (finger) won't pitch again in 2021. He is dealing with a blister on his finger. The injury news came up after his start against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. He would have lined up to pitch in the team's final game of the season on Sunday, but manager Davey Martinez told the media that he didn't want to push it. Corbin had a rough season overall, going 9-16 with a 5.82 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. At least he ended the year on a high note as he recorded a pair of quality starts in his last two outings.

Wed Sep 29 202111:28Patrick Corbin Takes Loss In Quality Start
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin was solid Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies, but he was still saddled with the loss as the Nationals fell 3-1 in Denver. Corbin allowed two runs on six hits and three walks (one intentional) in six innings. His nine strikeouts tied his season high. After a dreadful season, Corbin has now delivered four quality starts in his last five outings, offering some optimism heading into 2022. He may make one more start on the final day of the season against Boston, when he hopes to improve on his 5.82 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 171 2/3 innings. He's a risky fantasy play despite recent success.

Fri Sep 24 202112:45Patrick Corbin Unscored Upon Thursday
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin did not allow a run in Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, working himself out of several jams over his 6 2/3 innings. All told, he allowed four hits and four walks and struck out seven batters. Corbin improved his record to 9-15 with the win and now has a 5.92 ERA on the season. His three quality starts in September are encouraging, but he remains a risky fantasy play for the final weeks.
