Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday for the first game of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers. Garcia is dealing with a hamstring injury that previously put him on the injured list for a month, and he aggravated the injury on Saturday. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day with left hamstring discomfort, but if he doesn't return to the lineup soon, he might have to be shut down for the rest of the season. Jerar Encarnacion is starting in right field and hitting eighth, while Garrett Cooper is serving as the designated hitter and batting third for Game 1 on Monday against Rangers right-hander Glenn Otto.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols launched his 697th career home run of his career on Sunday. The 42-year-old hit a go-ahead two-run home run off right-hander Chase De Jong in the ninth inning. The future Hall of Famer has now hit a home run in back-to-back contests. He continues to close in on 700 career home runs as the season whines down. Pujols isn't much of a fantasy factor, but hopefully he'll be able to achieve this milestone.

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Chris Archer (pectoral) has been placed on the 15-day injured list. The veteran right-hander exited his start on Saturday against the Guardians early with pectoral tightness. He should be activated in time to cap off the regular season for the Twins. Minnesota selected the contract of Jharel Cotton from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move.

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado slugged a pair of solo home runs on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as his club fell to the Dodgers 8-4. He victimized starter Julio Urias with a shot off the Western Metal Supply Co. building in the third before crushing a 412' bomb to right-center in the sixth. The two long balls now give him 28 on the year to go along with 87 runs, 90 RBI, seven steals, and a .303 batting average through 129 games played. A chance for a .300/30/100/100 campaign is certainly attainable at this point, and it would mark the first time in his career he would reach all of those marks in one season.

Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia departed Saturday's contest in the first inning after experiencing discomfort in his left hamstring. He recently returned from the IL after missing a month of action with a strain to the same hamstring, so it's a bit concerning that he got lifted after playing one half-inning in right field. Perhaps the club is just playing it cautious with Garcia, but look for an update on his status prior to Sunday's finale versus the Mets.

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (foot) and third baseman Josh Donaldson are back in the starting lineup on Saturday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Stanton is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second after missing the last four games after he fouled a ball off his foot on Monday. Fantasy managers will want to get the power-hitting right-hander back into their lineups immediately. Donaldson was reinstated from the paternity list and will return to the lineup after missing the last three games following the birth of his child. He's starting at third base and hitting cleanup for the struggling Bombers. Hopefully for the Yankees, the return of both Stanton and Donaldson can get them going offensively.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout is on a tear, as he hit his fifth home run in five days on Friday. He was 1-for-4 overall, and his homer was a two-run shot. Not only has Trout gone deep for five straight games, but across his last 15 contests, the superstar is batting .317 with nine bombs and a 1.169 OPS. Even though the 31-year-old missed over a month of baseball with a back and rib injury, he's having a sensational year, slashing .277/.366/.619 with 33 HRs, 69 runs, 64 RBI, and one stolen base over 98 games. Trout's been one of the best all-around fantasy players during his career, and that hasn't changed this season.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (calf) threw a 30-pitch bullpen Friday, and pitching coach Josh Miller reported that "everything went well" during the session. Verlander has been progressing nicely after hurting his calf in a start two weeks ago and expects to return to the Astros rotation before the season is over. That being said, there is no concrete timeline and the team is likely to wait until they are sure Verlander is healthy, considering their current position in the standings. Still, Verlander can do a lot of good for fantasy managers in a small number of starts, so he should be kept around in hopes he returns soon.

Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (calf) is progressing nicely, perhaps even quicker than expected. He hasn't thrown off a pitching rubber yet, but he threw off the slope of the mound on Wednesday. Verlander is hoping to throw a light bullpen session in the next couple of days, but there's still no concrete timetable for his return to the starting rotation. The Astros will want the 39-year-old two-time Cy Young winner fully healthy for the playoffs, so they'll make sure not to rush him back to close out September. It sounds like he'll be ready to go sooner than later, but he's still running out of time to help fantasy managers. Verlander continues to be excellent for fantasy managers, posting a league-best ERA (1.84) and WHIP (0.85) while striking out 154 and walking 26 in 152 innings over 24 starts in 2022.

The New York Yankees placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the paternity list on Wednesday. The veteran is batting .220 with a .309 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 457 plate appearances in his first season in New York. The Yankees also recalled right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia from Triple-A to take Donaldson's place on the active roster. Garcia has yet to appear in the Majors this season but made two starts for the Yankees last year. He's pitched to a 7.26 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and 25 walks in 53.1 innings, mainly as a starter, in the minors this season.

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson was credited with the win on Tuesday in the 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. It was his fourth win of the season. Robertson tossed a scoreless ninth frame while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one. It wasn't the most pristine outing for the 37-year-old veteran, but he'll take the win regardless. He is now 4-2 on the year with a 2.51 ERA (4.09 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, four saves and 18 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings pitched since joining the Phillies at the Aug. 2 trade deadline. Robertson has been solid in relief for Philadelphia, but he hasn't had a save since Aug. 24.

New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) is going on the 15-day injured list and won't make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Scherzer had to be pulled early from his last start on Saturday with what manager Buck Showalter called fatigue in his left side. The good news is that Scherzer isn't very concerned and expects to be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Lefty David Peterson is likely to re-enter the rotation with Scherzer temporarily sidelined. The 38-year-old Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in New York, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts.

The Miami Marlins activated outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) from the injured list on Tuesday and optioned Peyton Burdick to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. Garcia will immediately return to the starting lineup on Tuesday against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola, as he's starting in right field and hitting cleanup. The 31-year-old veteran will be playing in his first major league game since Aug. 2, but he did get six minor league games to shake the rust off before he was reinstated. Garcia will return to being Miami's regular right fielder to close out the 2022 season. In 323 at-bats this year, he's slashing .232/.269/.322 with seven long balls, 30 RBI, 29 runs scored and four stolen bases.

The New York Mets are still in the process of deciding whether starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins or get pushed back a start. Scherzer left his previous outing early with oblique fatigue. The Mets don't want to push the 38-year-old right-hander and cause him to miss the final stretch of the regular season, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if he skips a start this week. As usual, Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in Queens, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and only 23 walks in 127 2/3 frames over his 20 starts in 2022. We'll probably know for sure whether he'll make his start on Friday by Wednesday.

Kansas City Royals manager Mike Matheny said that starting pitcher Zack Greinke (forearm) will return from the injured list on Wednesday to start against the Cleveland Guardians. Greinke has been on the shelf since late August with a right forearm injury, but he'll be available once again for fantasy managers in deeper leagues on Wednesday. The 38-year-old right-hander doesn't have a ton of upside left in his right arm, and he'll be extra risky on Wednesday without having made a minor league rehab start. Greinke has an ERA under 3.00 in six starts since the All-Star break, but overall he's 4-8 with a 4.14 ERA (4.27 FIP), a 1.35 WHIP, 64 strikeouts and 21 walks in 108 2/3 innings pitched over his 21 starts in his first year back in KC.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (calf) was seen throwing on flat ground on Monday. General manager James Click said on Sunday that Verlander isn't likely to return from the 15-day injured list when he's eligible on Sept. 13, but he shouldn't be out too far beyond that. The 39-year-old right-hander could be ready to go on a minor league rehab assignment sometime later this week. Houston will stick with a six-man rotation with Verlander sidelined, and pitching prospect Hunter Brown is scheduled to make his major league debut on Monday against the Texas Rangers. Verlander has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2022, going 16-3 with a pristine 1.84 ERA (2.71 FIP), a league-leading 0.85 WHIP and a 154:26 K:BB in 152 innings over 24 starts. Keep him stashed everywhere.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (hamstring) was out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The veteran slugger continues to deal with a lingering hamstring issue. Although, Longoria was able to come off the bench as a pinch hitter during Sunday's contest. The right-hander slugger did strike out, but at least he was able to take an at bat. It appears that Longoria is making progress with his left hamstring issue. Fantasy managers should consider him as day-to-day going forward.

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hand) is back in the lineup on Sunday in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers. Perez didn't play Saturday after being struck in the hand by a pitch during Friday's game. The 32-year-old catcher is starting behind the dish and batting third against Tigers starter Matt Manning. Perez has battled injuries and inconsistency all season but has still put up some decent counting stats with 19 home runs and 63 RBI. His .236/.275/.452 batting line across 90 games leaves a lot to be desired, however.

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Cabrera started to feel discomfort in his biceps on Friday and left that game early before missing Saturday's game entirely. First baseman/third baseman Josh Lester was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Cabrera should be out around two weeks and should return before the end of the regular season.

New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar went deep for the second straight day Saturday, as he went 1-for-2 at the plate with the solo shot and a walk. With Luis Guillorme and Brett Baty sidelined with injuries, Escobar has started every game at third base since he returned from the injured list. Before these last few games, he had not homered since July 26, and he now has 14 on the season to go with a .669 OPS, 43 runs scored, and 48 RBI. Regularly batting in the bottom third of the New York lineup, fantasy managers should look elsewhere for better third base options.
