Indians optioned INF Cord Phelps to Triple-A Columbus.
Phelps had the chance to earn significant playing time upon being called up nearly one month ago, but batted just .196/.315/.326 with one home run and five RBI over 55 plate appearances. Orlando Cabrera should get most of the look at second base, at least until Jason Kipnis arrives from the minors.

Sun Jun 19 201119:38Cord Phelps beats Pirates with walkoff
Cord Phelps hit a walkoff three-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Indians a 5-2 win over the Pirates Sunday.
Phelps added a double earlier in the game as he's now 3-for-21 since getting called up on June 8. The 2008 third-round pick is getting spot starts against righties, but won't get enough playing time to be viable in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Wed Jun 8 201111:16Phelps to get most of time at second base
Indians manager Manny Acta said Wednesday that Cord Phelps will get the majority of the playing time at second base against right-handed pitching.
Orlando Cabrera started the season hot, but is batting just .150 over his last 60 at-bats. Phelps will be on the strong side of the platoon, so he is worth a flier in AL-only leagues. Of course, both players may eventually be pushed aside once the Indians deem Jason Kipnis ready for the big leagues.

Wed Jun 8 201109:31Indians call up Cord Phelps from minors
Indians purchased the contract of INF Cord Phelps from Triple-A Columbus.
As expected. Phelps, 24, was batting .299/.391/.488 with seven home runs and 40 RBI over his first 248 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. It's not immediately clear what role he'll have with the big club, though second baseman Orlando Cabrera and third baseman Jack Hannahan have struggled after quick starts. The switch-hitter has a chance to be a solid utiliyman, at the very least.

Wed Jun 8 201100:00Indians to promote Phelps from Triple-A
The Indians are expected to promote infielder Cord Phelps from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Phelps is batting .299/.391/.488 with seven home runs and 40 RBI over his first 55 games at the Triple-A level this season. The 24-year-old doesn't have much in the way of pop or speed, but has a solid approach at the plate. While he has primarily played shortstop and second base in the minors, the Indians could view him as alternative to the struggling Jack Hannahan at third base.
