Sat Jul 13 201319:48Maicer Izturis goes 3-for-4 in Blue Jays win
Maicer Izturis went 3-for-4 in the Blue Jays' win over the Orioles on Saturday.
Izturis looked to be in line for less playing time with Brett Lawrie returning from the disabled list, but Lawrie's migration to second base has opened the door for Izturis to see more starts at third base. The 32-year-old is hitting .254/.294/.351 in 78 games this year.

Tue Jul 9 201322:10Izturis collects three hits in loss to Tribe
Maicer Izturis went 3-for-4 with a double in the Blue Jays' loss to the Indians on Tuesday.
Izturis is on a bit of a roll of late, as he's now hit safely in six straight games while raising his average from .228 to .251 in that span. But with Brett Lawrie inching closer to returning, Izturis' time as an everyday player will end soon.

Sat Jul 6 201315:42Izturis has three hits in loss to Twins
Maicer Izturis finished 3-for-3 in Saturday's loss to the Twins.
Izturis had three of Toronto's four hits. While he had a good day at the plate, he had a key baserunning blunder in the second inning. With a lousy .243/.281/.343 batting line to go along with five home runs and zero steals, the 32-year-old has done little to take advantage of a prominent role this season.

Maicer Izturis singled in Rajai Davis and Colby Rasmus in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Blue Jays to a 2-0 win over the Rockies on Monday.
Izturis had two of the Jays' three hits on the night. He's finally come alive of late, going 10-for-29 over his last seven games. Previously, he was hitting just .202/.240/.288 in 163 at-bats.

Sun May 19 201304:47Izturis goes 1-for-4 with a single in loss
Maicer Izturis went 1-for-4 with a single in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.
Izturis isn't walking or making contact this season, and you already know his swing is punchless. Toronto was hoping for more than a .218/.242/.331 slash line when they signed Izturis from the Angels over the winter to a three-year, $9 million deal and the Jays recently sat him in three of four games.

Wed Apr 24 201311:09Izturis singles in return to action
Maicer Izturis (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a single in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

Mon Apr 22 201320:22Maicer Izturis out with hamstring tightness
Maicer Izturis is not playing Monday due to some tightness in his hamstring.
It sounds like a day-to-day situation. Emilio Bonifacio is starting at second base in Izturis' place.

Mon Apr 15 201322:36Maicer Izturis hits first home run
Maicer Izturis hit his first homer of the year Monday off the White Sox's Gavin Floyd.
The bad news for Izturis is that the Jays don't trust him in shortstop. The good news is that the Jays also don't seem to trust Emilio Bonifacio at second. Izturis has been a fixture at the position lately, so despite his poor start, he's still worth using in AL-only leagues.

Sun Apr 14 201316:59Maicer Izturis goes hitless in loss
Maicer Izturis went 0-for-4 on Sunday, leaving him with a .194 average in 31 at-bats.
The odd thing is that Izturis has yet to strike out this season, yet he's still been pretty awful. He also struggled offensively this spring, and he hasn't been as steady as usual on defense. The Jays badly need him to step up with Jose Reyes down, but they don't appear to trust him at shortstop.

Tue Mar 26 201316:35Maicer Izturis goes 0-for-3
Maicer Izturis went 0-for-3 on Tuesday to drop his spring average back down to .220.
Emilio Bonifacio has outplayed Izturis this spring, but there will be room for both in the lineup initially with Brett Lawrie starting off on the disabled list. Izturis is expected to play third base against righties until Lawrie comes back.

Sun Mar 17 201314:07Izturis, Bonifacio could share 2B
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said it's possible Maicer Izturis and Emilio Bonifacio will share second base this season.
"It could turn out that we won't say, `Hey, this guy's our second baseman this year.' We can just use them both. Or we could name one guy [as] the primary guy," he said. Izturis is a much more reliable defender than Bonifacio, but Bonifacio offers much more in the fantasy department due to his stolen base upside. Both players figure to play a lot.

Thu Mar 14 201317:33Maicer Izturis knocks in five in Jays' rout
Maicer Izturis went 2-for-3 with a double, five RBI and a walk as the Blue Jays crushed the Yankees 17-5 on Thursday.
All five RBI came as the Blue Jays built a 15-1 lead in the first two innings. The offense calmed down after that, scoring single runs in the third and fourth and then going scoreless the rest of the way. Izturis, who is expected to serve as the Blue Jays' primary second baseman, entered with a .143 average and one RBI in 28 at-bats this spring.

Sun Feb 17 201322:15Jays not committed to Izturis at second base
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said that the second base job will be an open competition between Maicer Izturis and Emilio Bonifacio.
Gibbons acknowledged that Izturis "probably has the edge," but the Jays aren't going to promise him anything. Bonifacio can also play shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions, so he shouldn't struggle for playing time this season, even with an unclear role.

Wed Nov 28 201218:10Maicer Izturis likely to start at 2B
Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Wednesday that Maicer Izturis is the favorite to be the team's starting second baseman.
Anthopoulos views Emilio Bonifacio as more of a super utility player. Izturis, who was signed to a three-year, $9 million deal earlier this month, batted just .256/.320/.315 with two home runs and 20 RBI in 319 plate appearances this past season for the Angels and has always had trouble staying healthy.

Thu Nov 8 201213:06Jays reach three-year, $10M deal with Izturis
Blue Jays signed INF Maicer Izturis to a three-year, $10 million contract with a club option for 2016.
The length of the agreement is nice for the switch-hitting infielder but the money is far from outrageous for the Blue Jays. In other words, it seems like a pretty well-crafted agreement for both sides. Izturis is capable of playing solid defense at three different positions and provides a nice element of speed. He's likely to see regular action at second base with Toronto in 2013.

Thu Nov 8 201212:08Toronto nearing agreement with Maicer Izturis
The Blue Jays are close to an agreement with infielder Maicer Izturis, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Izturis batted just .256/.320/.315 with two home runs and 20 RBI in 319 plate appearances this past season for the Angels, but he can play all around the infield and should fit nicely on the Blue Jays' bench. The 32-year-old is doubtful to carry much fantasy value next summer.
