Fri May 31 201300:19Jared Burton earns second save
Filling in for a resting Glen Perkins, Jared Burton pitched a scoreless ninth against the Brewers for his second save on Thursday.
It'd make some sense for the Twins to have the right-handed Burton and left-handed Perkins share closing duties based on matchups, but that's just way too complicated a situation for any of today's managers to pull off. Perkins, after all, is just fine in the ninth as is. Burton has been very good in the eighth, picking up 12 holds opposite two blown saves. It should remain his role, for the most part.

Jared Burton earned his first save of the season Saturday in the Twins' 8-5 win over the Orioles.
Glen Perkins had the night off and Burton stepped in admirably, retiring all three batters he faced. Burton has a 1.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 18/5 K/BB ratio in 16 innings this season. He's a decent holds option in fantasy leagues and will vulture saves here and there.

Twins avoided arbitration with RHP Jared Burton by agreeing to a two-year, $5.5 million contract extension.
The Twins will also hold a $3.6 million option on him for 2015. The deal buys out Burton's first year of free agency and also gives Minnesota a chance to keep him around for an additional year. The 31-year-old was a nice surprise in 2012, posting a 2.18 ERA and 55/16 K/BB ratio over 64 appearances.

Wed Jul 18 201200:05Burton earns third save Tuesday against O's
Jared Burton notched his third save Tuesday with a scoreless inning against the Orioles.
Burton struck out a batter and walked another. It was his first save since June 25. Glen Perkins set him up with a three-punch-out eighth. Perkins and Burton will continue to share closing duties with Matt Capps on the disabled list into August. As such, the resurgent reliever with a 2.41 ERA is useable in most formats for now, especially if an owner is desperate for saves. Keep in mind that Minnesota wouldn't be averse to trading the reliever if they get an acceptable offer within the next two weeks.

Mon Jun 25 201223:21Jared Burton notches another save
Jared Burton notched his second straight save Monday with a scoreless inning against the White Sox.
He allowed a one-out walk to A.J. Pierzynski but then got a couple flyouts to end it. Glen Perkins pitched the eight inning before Twins manager Ron Gardenhire turned it over to Burton with the Sox having a couple right-handed batters due up. If Gardy sticks to the matchups, Burton should have a leg up over Perkins for save chance in Minny.

Sun Jun 24 201216:11Jared Burton notches save against Cincinnati
Jared Burton nailed down the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.
Interesting. Lefty Glen Perkins was called on in Minnesota's first two save opportunities without Matt Capps, but with two righties scheduled to lead off the ninth for the Reds, manager Ron Gardenhire went with Burton today. Burton walked two and recorded zero strikeouts. With Capps' shoulder likely to send him to the disabled list, the Twins might go with some approximation of a committee, but Perkins is the fill-in to own, with Burton being worth a look if you're absolutely desperate for saves.

Fri Nov 11 201115:59Jared Burton inks deal with Twins
Twins signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract.
A solid, no-risk move from Minnesota. Burton appeared in only six games for the Reds this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder, but he holds a 3.41 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 164 games at the major league level. If he shows he's healthy, he has a good shot to earn a bullpen spot in spring training.

Sat Jun 18 201109:24Jared Burton headed to Arizona
Jared Burton (shoulder) will report to the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona Sunday to continue his rehab.
He was supposed to head to the desert on June 12, but he says it wasn't a setback that made him push it back a week. "I pushed it back a week," he said. "I wanted to work on my arm strength some more before I threw live BP. I threw a couple of more bullpens. Every thing feels good." The Reds hope Burton, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in April, can help out sometime in the second half.

Jared Burton threw off a mound Tuesday for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in April.
Burton was only throwing at about 55 percent effort, but it was a significant step for the 29-year-old right-hander. He's currently hoping to throw live batting practice in about a week and a half. Barring any setbacks, there's a chance he could be back with the Reds later this summer.

Jared Burton was scheduled to undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery Friday.
Another lost season for Burton? The 29-year-old right-hander spent the majority of last season in the minor leagues and on the disabled list with hypothyroid condition and an oblique injury. We'll likely know more about a potential timetable for his return after the surgery is complete.
