Reds recalled LHP Matt Maloney from Triple-A Louisville.
Maloney deserves an extended look in some team's rotation, but he may not get that opportunity in Cincinnati next year. He finished up at 10-7 with a 3.34 ERA and a 104/28 K/BB ratio in 134 2/3 innings for Louisville. He had a 3.09 ERA in two starts for the Reds back in July. He'll pitch out of the pen for now.

Reds optioned LHP Matt Maloney to Triple-A Louisville.
The left-handed Maloney posted a 3.09 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in two starts for the Reds, but will head back to the minors to make room for the return of Edinson Volquez. Maloney could be recalled in an emergency.
Sun Jul 11 201016:23Maloney tough-luck loser against Phils
Matt Maloney was the touch-luck loser against the Phillies on Sunday after allowing just one run in six innings of work.
A Carlos Ruiz double and two-out RBI single from Jimmy Rollins in the third inning plated the only run of the game. Maloney gave up just two other hits in the contest while issuing only one walk. Maloney will continue to fill in if Aaron Harang can't return after the All-Star break, but even if he remains in the rotation he's only a spot-start option in NL-only formats.
Tue Jul 6 201017:10Reds call up Matt Maloney from Triple-A
Reds recalled LHP Matt Maloney from Triple-A Louisville.
Maloney will make the start against the Mets on Tuesday night. The 26-year-old left-hander had a legitimate chance to crack the starting rotation during spring training, but the fifth spot was eventually given to rookie right-hander Mike Leake. Maloney has a 3.50 ERA over 15 starts with the Bats this season.
