LHP C.J. Wilson will start an extended rehabilitation program Monday at the team's spring-training base in Tempe, Ariz. The program will begin with long-toss exercises. Manager Mike Scioscia said he did not know when Wilson would be ready to pitch.

LHP C.J. Wilson, in the final year of his contract that is paying him $20 million this season, will be evaluated Saturday to determine if he can begin throwing again. Wilson was shut down for most of spring training because of an inflamed left shoulder. Once he is cleared to begin throwing, he'll need 4-5 weeks before he's ready for game action.

Wilson (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL Sunday afternoon.
Wilson is already slated to undergo season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs in his elbow, so this roster move is merely a formality. It will clear up space on the 40-man roster for a flurry of corresponding transactions.
Thu Aug 13 201520:00C.J. Wilson: (Elbow) To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Wilson (elbow) will undergo season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
Wilson was expected to opt for surgery by Aug. 1, but he held out hope for a miracle by pursuing a second opinion. That extra time to decide shouldn't affect his long-term outlook, as he is sacrificing the remainder of his 2015 season in order to make sure he can be an effective pitcher in 2016. Jered Weaver's return will fill Wilson's rotation spot.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs from his left elbow, according to MLB.com. Wilson was expected to opt for surgery by Aug. 1 but delayed the procedure while seeking a second opinion with the hope he could return this year. Wilson's long-term prognosis was not affected by his decision to delay surgery, and he is expected to make a full recovery prior to the 2016 season. Wilson finishes the season 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 110 in 132.0 innings, his fewest innings since becoming a full-time starter in 2010. Wilson will turn 35 in November and has one year remaining on his contract, which will pay him $20 million. The Angels do not need to add a pitcher to the rotation because Jered Weaver came off the disabled list Aug. 9.
Sat Aug 1 201513:58C.J. Wilson: Expected To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Wilson (elbow) expects to need season-ending surgery, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
A recent MRI showed an elbow impingement secondary to arthritis, issues seemingly related to the bone spurs revealed in an earlier exam. Wilson seems resigned to needing surgery to treat the ailment, but said he should be able to pitch effectively next season. Jered Weaver (hip) could fill Wilson's rotation spot as soon as next week.

Wilson's MRI revealed an elbow impingement secondary to arthritis, per the team's orthopedic surgeon.
It's good to at least have a diagnosis, but there is still no clue as to what Wilson's timetable will be. Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times speculates the problem isn't major but could require some surgical cleanup, which would extend Wilson's time on the DL. Jered Weaver is at least nearing his return, so the impact on the Angels shouldn't be too significant.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson is expected to require season-ending elbow surgery, according to the Orange County Register. A recent MRI showed an elbow impingement secondary to arthritis, issues seemingly related to the bone spurs revealed in an earlier exam. Wilson, who has an 8-8 record and 3.89 ERA this season, was placed on the 15-day disabled Friday because of left elbow inflammation, and it appears likely that Jered Weaver will replace him in the rotation. Despite numerous injuries in the rotation this season, the Angles did not add any pitchers before Friday's non-waiver trade deadline. ''The things that we decided not to do, we think (those trades) would have left us worse off, and we had the discipline not to do it," general manger Bill Stoneman told MLB.com. "I know the media, and therefore the fans, are really looking with excitement about the trade deadline, but it doesn't mean you do something crazy just to make a headline. That's not what it's about."
Fri Jul 31 201516:40C.J. Wilson: (Elbow) Lands On Disabled List
Wilson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with left elbow inflammation.
The nature of Wilson's setback is uncertain, but it likely played a role in his less-than-stellar outing his last time out. The Angels have yet to announce how long Wilson will be sidelined, or who will take his place in the starting rotation, but Drew Rucinski was called up to take his roster spot.

The Los Angeles Angels placed pitcher C.J. Wilson on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of left elbow inflammation, according to MLB.com. The Angels recalled pitcher Drew Rucinski to take Wilson's roster spot, but it is uncertain who will replace Wilson in the starting rotation. Jered Weaver has been sidelined for nearly a month due to hip inflammation but is expected to return soon, and he would be a likely candidate to replace Wilson, who has an 8-8 record and 3.89 ERA this season but allowed six runs and six hits in four innings in his most recent appearance. The Angels made moves to acquire three outfielders prior to Friday's non-waiver trade deadline, but did not add any pitching depth, suggesting the team is not concerned about Wilson's long-term prognosis. ''The things that we decided not to do, we think (those trades) would have left us worse off, and we had the discipline not to do it," general manger Bill Stoneman said. "I know the media, and therefore the fans, are really looking with excitement about the trade deadline, but it doesn't mean you do something crazy just to make a headline. Wilson allowed six runs on six hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out three.
Wilson served up a pair of home runs in his shortest start in over a month. Wilson has gone five innings in all but two starts this season and he still has a tidy 0.9 HR/9 on the season. His ERA sits at 3.89; it hasn't been higher than 3.92 nor lower than 3.39 since the beginning of June. Expect Wilson to keep hovering in that range.

Wilson (8-7) yielded two runs on six hits while persevering through five innings to pick up the win against the Twins on Wednesday. He struck out five and walked two.
Wilson labored through 105 pitches over five innings but managed to limit the Twins to only two runs. Minnesota left seven runners on base in a three-inning stretch against Wilson, who got Eddie Rosario on a grounder to escape a bases-loaded jam with his 105th pitch in the fifth. Wilson will look to go for back-to-back wins in his next scheduled start Tuesday at Houston.

Wilson settled for a no-decision Friday against the Red Sox despite throwing eight scoreless innings in the contest.
Wilson's K:BB ratio was underwhelming for the fifth straight start, as he struck out just four while walking three, but was able to keep Boston off the board after allowing six runs in his last two outings. He will take a 3.59 ERA into an outing against the Twins on Tuesday.

Wilson allowed three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out five over six innings in a loss to the Mariners on Saturday.
Wilson was able to hang around after allowing three runs in the first two innings to pick up his third consecutive quality start, but his K:BB ratio over that span is a bit troubling, as he has struck out just 14 while walking nine in 18.2 innings. He head into the All-Star break having tallied a 7-7 record 3.83 earned-run average in 18 games.

Wilson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks across six innings Sunday against the Rangers. He struck out four and improved his record to 7-6 on the season.
The lefty was in line for an even better outing but he fizzled in the sixth inning and allowed a pair of runs before finishing out the frame. Wilson has now provided four quality starts in his last five outings and his season ERA now sits at 3.82. He will draw a cushy matchup against light-hitting Seattle in his next start Saturday.
