Fri Feb 10 201216:57O's ink RHP Ayala to one-year deal
Orioles signed RHP Luis Ayala to a one-year, $925,000 contract with a $1 million club option for 2013.
Ayala had to settle for a minor league deal last offseason, but he's getting a guaranteed contract after posting a 2.09 ERA and a 39/20 K/BB ratio over 56 innings with the Yankees last season. The 34-year-old right-hander will give O's manager Buck Showalter another experienced late-inning option setting up for projected closer Jim Johnson.

Fri Feb 10 201213:53Luis Ayala gets 925K from Orioles
Don Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that Luis Ayala will earn $925,000 in his deal with the Orioles and the contract also includes a $1 million club option for 2013.
Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio has reported the same details. The contract will be finalized after the right-hander passes a physical. It's not a bad deal for the O's after Ayala posted a fine year for the Yankees in 2011, holding a 2.09 ERA in 52 appearances. He'll help set up for Jim Johnson.

Fri Feb 10 201212:21Orioles reach agreement with Luis Ayala
Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that the Orioles have reached an agreement with free agent reliever Luis Ayala.
Kubatko says it's a major league deal and is pending a physical. It's not clear how much the contract is for. Ayala posted a 2.09 ERA in 52 appearances with the Yankees last season, which was his first decent year since 2007. He'll presumably serve as a setup man for Jim Johnson. The signing of Ayala and recent acquisition of Matt Lindstrom would seem to make it unlikely that the O's will re-acquire Koji Uehara.

The Orioles and Padres were also known to have interest previously.

According to Fernando Ballesteros of Mexican baseball magazine Puro B‚isbol, free agent reliever Luis Ayala is weighing offers from the Angels and the Orioles and could sign with one of the two clubs "at any moment."

After settling for a minor league contract last offseason, he may end up with a guaranteed deal this time around.

He ultimately won the job over young left-hander Steve Garrison. An official announcement is expected sometime Wednesday. Yankees signed RHP Luis Ayala to a minor league contract.
We're assuming he'll get an invite to spring training. Ayala, 33, spent all of last season at the Triple-A level, but is coming off a strong showing in the Mexican Winter league. While he owns a 3.67 career ERA, he hasn't been an effective pitcher for a few years now.

Another option for Arizona's beleaguered bullpen. Ayala was released by the Dodgers on May 17 after posting a 4.50 ERA over 14 appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 5.63 ERA in 38 appearances between the Twins and Marlins last season.
