Reds acquired RHP Dylan Axelrod from the White Sox.
Axelrod was sporting a pedestrian 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 76/36 K/BB ratio through 88 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte. The 28-year-old has experience as a starter and reliever at the major league level.

Fri Mar 14 201421:46Axelrod goes three scoreless against Indians
Dylan Axelrod delivered a nice performance against the White Sox in Cactus League action on Friday, scattering two hits and a pair of walks over three scoreless frames.
He remains a long-shot to crack the White Sox Opening Day rotation, but with each strong outing in Arizona his chances improve. The 28-year-old hurler posted a 5.68 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 128 1/3 innings with the White Sox in 2013.

Wed Mar 5 201418:20Axelrod throws three scorelss vs. Padres
Dylan Axelrod held the Padres scoreless in three innings during Wednesday's 8-0 loss.
Axelrod allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three. Axelrod was non-tendered in December and then was re-signed to a minor league deal in January, so he will serve as organizational depth.

Tue Jan 14 201409:04White Sox re-sign RHP Axelrod to minors deal
White Sox re-signed RHP Dylan Axelrod to a minor league contract.
The deal presumably includes a spring training invite. Axelrod was non-tendered by the White Sox in December after posting a 5.68 ERA and 73/43 K/BB ratio over 128 1/3 innings last season. He'll be useful depth to have around in the organization.

Mon Dec 2 201321:12Dylan Axelrod non-tendered by White Sox
White Sox non-tendered RHP Dylan Axelrod.
Axelrod spent much of the 2013 season in the White Sox' rotation but ultimately posted a 5.68 ERA across 128 1/3 innings. He wasn't arbitration-eligible until 2016, but the White Sox decided they'd rather have another 40-man roster space. Axelrod is just 28 and has put up nice numbers in the minors, so he'll get a look from someone.

Wed Sep 25 201323:05Axelrod takes 11th loss, Sox fall to Indians
Dylan Axelrod allowed five runs -- three earned -- over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
It's been a forgettable season for the 28-year-old, and Wednesday was no different. He allowed eight hits and two walks, striking out just one. He finishes the year at 4-11 with a 5.68 ERA.

Fri Sep 20 201323:04Dylan Axelrod obliterated in loss to Tigers
Dylan Axelrod was obliterated in Friday's loss to the Tigers, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.
Axelrod, who was pressed into emergency duty when Andre Rienzo came down with an injury, walked a pair and struck out three in the rough outing. The Tigers got to him early and often in this one, scoring twice in the first, once in the second and adding four more in the third to chase Axelrod from the game. He'll take his disappointing 5.72 ERA and 1.65 WHIP back to the bullpen with him, where he'll undoubtedly reside for the remainder of the season.

Fri Sep 13 201319:04Dylan Axelrod trying to maintain endurance
Dylan Axelrod has continued to throw side sessions and attempt to remain stretched out despite his demotion to the bullpen in late July.
The extra endurance is a very nice quality to have as a long man out of the White Sox bullpen, as he was able to throw 90 pitches over five shutout innings of relief in Thursday's loss to the Tribe. The 28-year-old righty still has his sights set on cracking the Opening Day rotation in 2014.

Sun Jul 21 201309:30Dylan Axelrod demoted to bullpen
Dylan Axelrod has been demoted to the bullpen following the return of Jake Peavy to the rotation.
That means Hector Santiago will remain in the rotation. It's no surprise, as Axelrod has really struggled over his last six starts, posting a 9.32 ERA. He'll be used in long relief.

Wed Jul 10 201323:11Axelrod beaten again as Sox fall to Tigers
Dylan Axelrod surrendered seven runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers on Wednesday.
It was another poor start for the right-hander, who fell to 3-6 and hasn't won a game since May 26. Along with the 11 hits, Axelrod walked two while striking out three. He now owns a 5.33 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 18 starts this season. The White Sox may not have many better options, but even owners in AL-only leagues can do better than Axelrod at this point.

Fri Jul 5 201322:44Dylan Axelrod destroyed in loss to Rays
Dylan Axelrod was absolutely destroyed in Friday's loss to the Rays, surrendering five runs on nine hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work.
Axelrod struck out one in the game. He made it through the first inning unscathed, but all hell broke loose when the Rays batted around against him in the second frame. Back-to-back homers from Jose Molina and Kelly Johnson started the damage, and an RBI double by Wil Myers finally chased him from the game. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on the Tigers in Detroit on Wednesday.

Wed Jun 19 201300:26Axelrod struggles in no-decision versus Twins
Dylan Axelrod allowed five runs -- four earned -- over six innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Tuesday.
Axelrod was actually somewhat fortunate to allow just the four earned runs, as he surrendered 10 hits and two walks on the night. The right-hander has hit a bit of a rough stretch, as he hasn't gotten a win since May 26. He'll try to correct that Sunday in Kansas City.

Tue Jun 11 201302:31Axelrod gets torched in no-decision vs. TOR
Dylan Axelrod was torched for six runs on eight hits over four innings in a no-decision Monday against the Blue Jays.
An 1:10 fog delay in the bottom of the third inning may have tweaked the youngster, as he had one of his worst starts to date. Toronto launched three homers off Axelrod, including two by Jose Bautista. Axelrod, who walked four and struck out just one, will take his 4.26 ERA into a much better matchup against the Astros this weekend. We'd bet that his recent control problems (nine walks in his last two starts) get ironed out against a feeble Houston lineup.

Wed Jun 5 201320:44Axelrod goes five-plus innings in no-decision
Dylan Axelrod went 5 1/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mariners.
Axelrod allowed six hits and walked five batters, throwing only 47 of his 93 pitches for strikes. But he operated well in situations that required damage control and was able to hold the M's scoreless. Axelrod has been steady in five straight outings but he doesn't dominate hitters and isn't the best mixed-league fantasy option. He'll get the Blue Jays next.

Sat Jun 1 201300:59Dylan Axelrod strikes out seven in loss
Dylan Axelrod took a tough loss after allowing two runs in seven innings and striking out seven A's on Friday.
Axelrod had won three straight starts, even though he wasn't pitching any better in that span than he did while opening the season 0-3 (his ERA actually increased from 4.17 to 4.21 during the streak). Tonight's start may have been his best of the year; his seven strikeouts were a season high and he went without walking a batter for the first time in his 11 starts.

Tue May 21 201300:16Dylan Axelrod beats Red Sox for win
Dylan Axelrod held the Red Sox to two runs and four hits in six innings to pick up a win Monday.
It's just Axelrod's second win in nine outings this season, but he's given the White Sox five quality starts, plus two more in which he was pulled in sixth having allowed three or fewer runs. He's now probably moved back ahead of Hector Santiago with John Danks due back and a rotation spot on the line.

Wed May 15 201316:50Dylan Axelrod picks up first victory
Dylan Axelrod finally notched his first win after allowing three runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday against the Twins.
Axelrod has pitched better than this several times this year, but he never received run support like he did today in what turned out to be a 9-4 victory for the White Sox. His future in the rotation is in doubt with John Danks on the way back. With a 4.27 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP, he hasn't been bad so far. Still, Hector Santiago would seem to have more upside as a starter.

Fri May 10 201323:48Dylan Axelrod allows five runs in no-decision
Dylan Axelrod had a rough go of it in Friday's no-decision against the Angels, giving up five runs on seven hits in his six innings of work.
On the plus side, he did rack up six strikeouts on the evening while walking only one. Through his first 41 innings, Axelrod owns a 4.17 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22/12 K/BB ratio. While he's been decent, he could be at risk to lose his spot in the rotation once John Danks is cleared to return from the disabled list. He'll hope for better results against the Twins in Minnesota on Wednesday.

Sat May 4 201321:48Axelrod allows two runs in loss to Royals
Dylan Axelrod gave up two earned runs over 7 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss against the Royals.
Axelrod did not record a strikeout, yielding eight hits and a walk while falling to 0-2 on the year. He has a decent 3.60 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 35 innings but can't really be trusted outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Mon Apr 22 201323:28Dylan Axelrod pitches well in no-decision
Dylan Axelrod held the Indians to one run over six frames but was stuck with a no-decision in Monday's loss.
Axelrod wasn't efficient, throwing 109 pitches, but he permitted just three hits, walked two and struck out four. He was in line for his first win of the season before Matt Thornton blew the lead in the eighth inning. Axelrod struggled in a start against the Nationals, but he's posted a 1.53 ERA in his other three outings. He makes for a solid AL-only play later this week against the Rays.
