LHP Mike Dunn (forearm), who missed Miami's first 51 games, was activated. He made 72 relief appearances for Miami last year and is the only lefty in the Marlins bullpen. Dunn's presence will allow Marlins manager the ability to mix and match a bit with lefty and righty hitters. Prior to Dunn's activation, the Marlins this year had tried a couple of lefties with very little success -- Chris Narveson, Craig Breslow and Cody Ege.

LHP Mike Dunn was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday due to a strained left forearm. Dunn underwent an MRI exam and no significant damage was uncovered. The move was made retroactive to March 25. It is the first time the durable Dunn has been on the disabled list during a major-league career that began in 2009. He has appeared in 354 games since the Marlins acquired him from the Atlanta Braves in 2010. He went 2-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 72 games (54 innings) last season.

Dunn finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 4.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 54 innings for the Marlins.
The 30-year-old reliever remained a workhorse out of the Miami bullpen, logging 70+ appearances for the fourth time in the last five years and he finished with 20 holds, making it the third straight season he's collected 20+ holds. His overall numbers are down from the past two seasons, but it is difficult to find a significant skills regression that would prevent Dunn from bouncing back in 2016. Overall, Dunn's walk rate ticked up and he allowed a couple more home runs than in 2014 while his velocity and strikeout rates remained in line with career norms.

Dunn has registered a disappointing 4.34 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 29 inning pitched this season, but made five straight scoreless appearance to close the first half.
Dunn had a very shaky start to the season, posting a 5.30 ERA in April and May, but has been heating up along with the summer weather. Since June 1, he's got a 2.61 ERA while re-establishing himself as a quality setup option for the Marlins and will continue to provide support as a late-inning bridge from the Miami rotation to closer A.J. Ramos.

Dunn took the loss Friday night, allowing one run on one hit while retiring just one hitter in the Marlins 5-3 loss to Atlanta.
Both Dunn and Bryan Morris were mentioned as possible closer options when Steve Cishek was removed from the role earlier this week, but both pitched in the eighth inning (and both allowed runs) which suggests A.J. Ramos will indeed get the first opportunity to step into the closer's gig.
