McGuire was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
The Athletics made the move to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Adam Dunn, who was acquired from the White Sox earlier in the day. McGuire was lit up for 31 runs over 34.2 innings (8.05 ERA) at Triple-A Sacramento, creating doubt that he'll ever fulfill the vast potential he appeared to have when he was drafted in the first round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Athletics acquired RHP Deck McGuire from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.
McGuire, who was designated for assignment last week, was the No. 11 overall pick in 2010 but hasn't developed as hoped. The 25-year-old has put up a 4.21 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 115 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Deck McGuire from Double-A New Hampshire.
McGuire is now on Toronto's 40-man roster and is protected from December's Rule 5 Draft. A former first round pick from 2010, the 24-year-old had a 4.86 ERA and 143/59 K/BB ratio over 157 1/3 innings in Double-A this past season.
