OF Jake Smolinski tied the score with a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday night in a 4-3 walk-off victory over Tampa Bay. Smolinski crushed Rays RHP Alex Colome's first-pitch fastball over the left field fence. Moments later, rookie 3B Ryon Healy hit a walk-off solo shot against Colome with two outs. Smolinski said he was looking for heat on the first pitch. "I saw him the other day and he grooved one and I took it," Smolinski said. "And after that I saw his cutter/slider that was pretty nasty, so I told (hitting coach Darren) Bush I was going to be ready for that first-pitch heater if I got it again and I did."

OF Jake Smolinski provided the big blow Tuesday in the Athletics' 13-11 win over the Giants, a three-run, pinch-hit home run that gave the A's the lead for good in the eighth inning. The homer was his fourth of the season, but first not only of the year but of his career in a pinch-hitting role. It came off Giants LHP Javier Lopez, who hadn't allowed a hit to a right-handed batter all season.

Smolinski , who started in right field, crushed RHP Pat Dean's first-pitch fastball over the left field fence for his first major-league home run since Sept. 19, 2015, at Houston.

LF Jake Smolinski was called up from Triple-A Nashville after the club put RF Josh Reddick on the 15-day disabled list with a thumb injury. Smolenski started in right field Friday and went 0-for-4 with an RBI.

Smolinski went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

Smolinski has now homered in three of his last five games, but that's the majority of his season production for the Rangers. In 67 games played, Smolinski has six homers and 23 RBI to go along with a putrid .189 average. He provides no fantasy value and should be left on all waiver wires.

Smolinski is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

Smolinski has regular playing time through the first portion of September, but he will sit out Friday for the second night in a row. Mark Canha will cover left field for the A's on Friday night.

Smolinski is getting the start in left field and is batting seventh in the order Monday against the Astros.

Smolinski has usurped Coco Crisp for the everyday role in left field, but he's yet to make much of a mark. He's gone just 3-for-21 in the past six games, so those outside of AL-only leagues will probably want to simply wait for him to heat up before scooping him up on the waiver wire.

Smolinski was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and will bat fifth against the Dodgers.

Smolinski won't take long to join the starting lineup, with Coco Crisp (ankle, hip) sitting again Wednesday. He struggled mightily as a member of the Rangers earlier in the season, posting a .133/.270/.200 batting line with the club, but has fared much better since joining Oakland. He probably won't have an everyday role with the club, but could sub in both right and left field.

Smolinski was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

After a tough start to the season for the Rangers, Smolinski hit his stride for the A's, going 8-for-25 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBI. With Coco Crisp coming off the disabled list, Smolinski finds himself the odd-man out and heads down to Triple-A.
