Thu Mar 22 201811:18All or nothing: Indians aiming to end 70-year Series drought
CLEVELAND (AP) — For any other team, a historic 22-game winning streak, 102 victories, second straight division title and playoff appearance would be worth celebrating. Not the Cleveland Indians, who remain unsatisfied, yet undeterred after consecutive postseason collapses."We're going after it, man," said dazzling All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor. "We want to win. We're not backing down from anything."The Indians have spent the past two postseasons in lamenting what might have been. One year after blowing a 3-1 lead and losing the World Series in seven games, they squandered a 2-0 advantage last October to the New York Yankees and again fell short of delivering a championship to Cleveland for the first time since 1948.Maybe this is the year they end the majors' longest title drought. With Cy Young winner Corey Kluber at the top of perhaps baseball's deepest starting rotation, and in Lindor, one of the game's transcendent talents, the Indians are certain to be in the mix to finally win... Fri Feb 9 201812:03Indians eyeing World Series title after '17 postseason flop
CLEVELAND (AP) — Once the pain from their postseason elimination eased, the Cleveland Indians didn't panic.Instead, they stayed mostly intact — and confident — this winter.Determined to end their World Series title drought in 2017 after coming so close the previous season, the AL Central champions were bounced in the playoffs by the New York Yankees despite taking a 2-0 series lead.It was a bitter finish for a team that won 102 games and reeled off 22 straight victories. But while there was a sense of finality for some Cleveland fans, manager Terry Francona said these Indians aren't done."I don't think anybody should be pessimistic right now," Francona said last month. "My goodness, we have the best record in the American League the last five years. This has been a good run of baseball, and I don't see that going anywhere."With one of baseball's top rotations, anchored by two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, the Indians are aiming to win their first Series since 1948 and end the majors'... Fri Jan 12 201820:02Indians reach arbitration deals, set hearing with Bauer
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians settled all their arbitration cases but one. Once again, Trevor Bauer is an exception. The club avoided arbitration with starter Danny Salazar and right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall on Friday, agreeing to one-year contracts for the 2018 season.Salazar, who is coming off an inconsistent and injury-slowed 2017, will make $5 million next season. Chisenhall's contract is worth $5,587,500. He's projected to be the starting right fielder for the AL Central champions.Cleveland also reached agreement with reliever Zach McAllister on a $2.45 million contract. The Indians, however, didn't settle with Bauer before the deadline to exchange salary figures. The enigmatic right-hander won a career-high 17 games last season and developed into a vital member of Cleveland's rotation. He made 31 starts and established himself as a premier pitcher, known as much for his array of pitches as his hobby of flying drones or unique training regimen.Bauer went 10-1 with a 2.60 ERA...
