Johnson will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear exactly when Johnson's knee issue occurred, but the procedure will effectively end his 2015 campaign. He should be ready for the start of spring training in 2016, where he'll compete with Carlos Sanchez for playing time at second base.

Johnson will start at second base for the fifth time in seven games Saturday against the Indians.

If the recent playing time trends are any indication, White Sox manager Robin Ventura seems to have settled on Johnson as his preferred choice at second base over Carlos Sanchez, who has offered barely any offensive production from that spot this season. Johnson has a rather modest .320 on-base percentage over 105 plate appearances, but that mark still tops Sanchez by a significant margin. In addition, Johnson is much more of a game breaker on the bases, which should allow him to gain further separation from Sanchez in the job battle over the final two weeks.

Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports.

With the Triple-A season now over, Johnson will return to the White Sox, for whom he's played 27 games this season, hitting .270 with three stolen bases. Johnson, 24, is expected to compete with Carlos Sanchez for playing time at second base over the season's final three weeks.

Manager Robin Ventura said Johnson will be in the mix with Carlos Sanchez at second base when Johnson returns from Triple-A Charlotte following the conclusion of the Triple-A season, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Johnson might have joined the rest of the White Sox regulars up from the minors when rosters expanded at the beginning of the month, but he was still rehabbing from a hamstring injury. He has two steals in nine games since returning from the injury, and he should provide a few stolen bases down the stretch.

Johnson will be called up when Triple-A Charlotte's season ends, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.

Johnson is the most intriguing position player who could have been called up by the White Sox for the final month of the season, but instead of being a Sept. 1 call-up, owners will have to wait until Sept. 8, the day after Charlotte's final game of the regular season.

There are 13 games left on the Knights' schedule, so Johnson will have plenty of time to get in a rhythm before presumably getting recalled by the White Sox. Johnson has much more fantasy upside than any of the second basemen currently on the big league roster, as he could steal a half dozen bases in a month, even with only semi-regular at-bats.

That should give him a few more at-bats at the level before heading back to Chicago when rosters expand. That timeline would give him a bit of time to get back into the swing of things at Triple-A Charlotte before rosters expand Sept. 1. Depending on the play of Carlos Sanchez, Johnson could remain in Charlotte until the minor league season ends Sept. 7.

Depending on the severity of the strain, the injury could derail any hopes of Johnson making a late-season return to the big league club. Carlos Sanchez's emerging bat at the major league level will also be an impediment to Johnson retaking a starting spot in Chicago.

Johnson is hitting .306 with one home run and three steals in 43 plate appearances with Triple-A Charlotte.

His offense was not really the reason he was sent down earlier this month, but he is certainly putting on quite a display against Triple-A pitching. It's a small sample size, but he has six walks and six strikeouts so far with Charlotte and is getting on base at a .395 clip. If the White Sox become satisfied with Johnson's defense he should be back up with the big league club sometime this summer.

Johnson will yield the start Wednesday to Emilio Bonifacio, who will bat second for the White Sox. He still sits at a respectable .270 average while reaching base at a .333 clip, and should continue to se everyday starts at second base.

Johnson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds.

After sitting out the back end of Saturday's doubleheader, Johnson will be left on the bench for a second straight game, with Emilio Bonifacio picking up a start at the keystone. Johnson shouldn't be in danger of losing out on his regular starting role, as he's delivered a respectable .271 batting average and .329 on-base percentage in the first 24 games of his MLB career.

Johnson is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

He got the start and went 0-for-3 in the first half of the twin bill. Emilio Bonifacio will get the start at second base in the nightcap.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the White Sox's win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

The trio of hits pushed his average back over the .280 mark, and his OBP is now back over .340. It's still a work in progress to get him base stealing opportunities, but at least he is getting on base, which should keep him on the MLB roster.

Johnson will lead off for the White Sox on Friday against the Twins, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Johnson has mainly hit out of the ninth spot for the White Sox this season, but his .271/.340/.292 batting line there has earned him a spot atop the order on Adam Eaton's day off. It's unlikely that role will continue, however, as, Eaton will likely return to the lineup in the next couple days.

Johnson is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Johnson has now started just one of Chicago's three games against left-handed pitching, as he'll give way to Emilio Bonifacio on Friday for a matchup with Tigers ace David Price. While he's still the White Sox's primary second baseman, Johnson has only been in the lineup for six of the team's first nine games, and he still doesn't have a run, RBI or stolen base.

Johnson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Indians.

Johnson sat once last week against a lefty and will sit Tuesday against right-hander Carlos Carrasco, affording Emilio Bonifacio his first opportunity to start this season. While Johnson's bat has yet to head north from spring training (.188 average), the team has not suggested in any way that he's in danger of losing his primary role yet.
