Ramirez, who was sent to Pawtucket on April 19 for a fresh arm in Heath Hembree, gave up one hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth on Wednesday. Ramirez is 0-0 with a 4.32 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and six walks over 8 1/3 innings in six appearances with the Red Sox this season.

RHP Noe Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket as the Red Sox looked to help a tired bullpen. "Needed to get a fresh arm here capable of a couple innings," manager John Farrell said. "The fact is we go up against some lineups here these next couple series, two (or) three series, with more left-handers in it. While Noe's arm slot is probably geared towards maybe having potentially better effects against right-handers, we look to get a little bit more of a top-to-bottom breaking ball and a four-seam fastball against this (Tampa Bay) group."

RHP Noe Ramirez, who pitched a scoreless inning for the Red Sox on Monday, was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after the game. Ramirez has a 4.91 ERA through six appearances (7 1/3 innings) for Boston this season.

Ramirez pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out one batter in Wednesday night's loss to the Rays.

Ramirez is auditioning for a spot in the 2016 bullpen and has been effective since his call up Sept. 1. He's allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 11 in seven innings.

Ramirez will be added to Boston's roster before Tuesday's game, MLB.com reports.

Ramirez struggled in his short stint in the majors this season (9 ER in 5 IP), but had a 2.32 ERA and 38:18 K:BB ratio in 42.2 innings at Triple-A. He'll add depth in September as he auditions for a middle relief role next year.

Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Sunday's game against the Tigers, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

Ramirez made two appearances with the Red Sox during his latest stint, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks over four innings. If he's able to turn things around at Triple-A and earn his way back to Boston, he'd likely be used only in low-leverage situations.

Ramirez was recalled by the Red Sox on Saturday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

Ramirez has thrown 3.1 scoreless innings over two appearances at Triple-A Pawtucket since being optioned back to the minors on July 4. He'll add right-handed depth to Boston's bullpen while Heath Hembree works his way through a rehab assignment. The Red Sox optioned Travis Shaw in a corresponding move Saturday.
