Wed Nov 15 202321:10Blake Snell Wins Second Cy Young Award
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell won the 2023 National League Cy Young award, becoming the seventh pitcher in MLB history to win a Cy Young in both leagues, joining Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Gaylord Perry, Roy Halladay and Max Scherzer. It came at a great time, too, as Snell will be highly coveted as a free agent this offseason. Snell received 28 of 30 first-place votes to finish in front of Logan Webb and Zac Gallen. The 30-year-old southpaw lead all of baseball with a 2.25 ERA in 2023, including a 1.20 ERA in his final 23 starts. Snell also led the majors with 99 walks, but he was dominant otherwise and led in opponents batting average (.181), hits per nine innings (5.8) and ERA+ (182) in 180 innings. His 234 strikeouts were second in the NL.

Tue Nov 7 202313:16Blake Snell Receives Qualifying Offer From Padres
The San Diego Padres officially extended a $20.325 million qualifying offer to left-hander Blake Snell, ensuring they'll receive draft-pick compensation if he leaves via free agency this offseason. Snell is fully expected to decline the offer after an outstanding 2023 season that has him as the favorite to win the National League Cy Young award. The 30-year-old southpaw led the majors with a 2.25 ERA and will be the top starting pitcher on the open market this winter, so he will have plenty of suitors for his services. In addition to a league-best 2.25 ERA (3.44 FIP), Snell went 14-9 for the Friars with a 1.19 WHIP, a league-high 99 walks and a career-high 234 strikeouts in 180 innings pitched over 32 starts in his third year in San Diego. If he doesn't cut down on his walks in 2024, there will likely be a regression in his ERA for whichever club he's pitching for.

Wed Sep 20 202300:43Blake Snell Tosses Seven No-Hit Innings Tuesday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell turned in another fabulous start in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Rockies. Snell pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing no hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. The bullpen would take the no-hitter into the ninth inning, where it was finally broken up. The 30-year-old has had an excellent and strange season, going 14-9 with a 2.33 ERA, 11.74 K/9 rate, and 5.02 BB/9 rate. Walks have stunted Snell's fantasy ceiling in the past despite his huge strikeout upside, but he has somehow managed to work around them this season. He will look to keep rolling in his next start at the Giants.

Sat Sep 2 202311:10Blake Snell Aims To Keep Dealing Versus Giants
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell looks to add to his 2023 National League Cy Young candidacy in Saturday's start versus the San Francisco Giants. The 30-year-old has completely put behind a troubling first nine starts to the year (5.40 ERA) for a wonderful 1.38 ERA with 145 strikeouts during his latest 18 starts (104 innings pitched) since May 25. Snell seems to have a great opportunity to build on his revival on Saturday vs. the Giants, who the southpaw owns a shiny 0.76 ERA with 38 punchouts in 23 2/3 IP against since 2022. More specifically, the current San Fran roster is an unimposing 17-for-98 collectively opposing Snell. Continue locking and loading the hard-throwing lefty into fantasy lineups.

Tue Aug 29 202301:45Blake Snell Punches Out Nine Over Seven Innings In Victory
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell dominated on Monday, tossing seven shutout innings while limiting the Cardinals to just two hits to go along with nine strikeouts and five walks in a 4-1 victory. While the five free passes are a blemish on the stat line, Snell still handled the Cardinals with ease, limiting them to just two hits. This also marked the eighth time this season that he's punched out nine or more batters. While the walks have been a bit of an issue all season for the veteran southpaw, he's done an excellent job working around the traffic and preventing runs. Overall, he owns a stellar 11-9 record, 2.60 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 193:85 K/BB ratio over 149 innings (27 starts). The 30-year-old lefty has a real shot to take home the NL Cy Young, which would be his second time winning that award after earning the honor in 2018 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. He'll take on the San Francisco Giants at home in his next turn.

Thu Jul 27 202312:27Teams Believe Padres Will Trade Blake Snell, Josh Hader
Several teams who have spoken with the San Diego Padres in recent days believe that Cy Young winner Blake Snell and All-Star closer Josh Hader will be traded before the Aug. 1 deadline, particularly Hader. The struggling Padres (49-54) are in seventh place in the wild-card standings, 6.5 games out of a playoff spot. Snell has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year with a 2.61 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 147 strikeouts in 114 innings over 21 starts, but he could be slipping after walking 12 batters in his last two starts. The 30-year-old southpaw is an obvious trade candidate with his contract up this winter. Hader will also be a free agent after the 2023 season. If he's traded in the coming week, Robert Suarez would likely step into the closer's role in San Diego moving forward.

Thu Jul 13 202321:57Blake Snell Taking The Ball Next On Saturday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell is tentatively scheduled to take the mound for Saturday's matinee game of a doubleheader against Taijuan Walker and the Philadelphia Phillies. Since relenting a season-worst six runs on May 19, Snell has entered the zone, throwing with sheer dominance. The 30-year-old has yielded only four runs for a sublime 0.68 ERA with 84 strikeouts across his last nine starts (53 innings). Snell has also punched out double-digit batters in five of his last six appearances. The southpaw admittedly struggled in two starts against Philadelphia in 2022, surrendering seven runs over 9 1/3 frames. Even so, fantasy managers would be wise to keep rolling with Snell across all formats while he's so locked in.

Thu Jun 22 202318:57Blake Snell Piles Up Double-Digit Strikeouts In Third Straight
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell dominated once again in Thursday's emphatic 10-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. The 30-year-old hurled six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts, scattering just three singles for his fourth win of the year. Snell is simply mowing down the opposition right now, fanning at least 11 batters in each of his last three starts. The southpaw has a masterful 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 61 punchouts over his last seven starts for 40 brilliant innings. Hopefully fantasy managers didn't give up on Snell in mid-May before he got rolling. The hard-throwing lefty looks to keep coasting on Wednesday against the Jekyll and Hyde Pittsburgh Pirates.

Thu Jun 15 202312:06Blake Snell In Line To Start Saturday
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell (ankle) is listed as the team's probable starter on Saturday against his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite getting hit in the left ankle by a comebacker in his last start on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies, Snell was excellent, allowing one run on three hits while walking none and striking out a season-high 12 batters in seven innings in a tough no-decision. The 30-year-old southpaw got off to another rough start this year, but he's put that behind him of late, allowing just two runs on 12 hits while walking 10 and fanning 33 over 24 innings in his last four starts. He's healthy enough to make his next start this weekend, but it will come against one of the best hitting teams in the big leagues.

Mon Jun 12 202309:39Blake Snell Looks Dominant In No-Decision
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell put together one of his best performances of the season versus the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The left-hander allowed three hits, gave up one earned run, while striking out 12 batters over seven innings of work. The only run came on a solo homer off the bat of Ezequiel Tovar in the first inning. After that, the Rockies couldn't seem to touch Snell during this game. Sadly for him, the Padres bullpen was unable to hold the lead for him. He'll look to keep the good times rolling versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Snell holds a 3.78 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 81/37 K/BB ratio through 13 starts this season.

Sun Jun 11 202310:24Blake Snell Aims To Stay Locked In Against Rockies
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell takes on Dinelson Lamet and the Colorado Rockies on the road in search of a weekend series sweep on Sunday. The 30-year-old has been dealing lately to the tune of just a lone run given up with 21 strikeouts over his last 17 innings. However, Snell faces a significant threat to his recent dominance for this one. Not only does the southpaw have an awful 5.92 ERA in 38 innings against the Rockies since 2021, but also a cringeworthy 10.66 ERA over 15 2/3 innings at Coors Field in this time. Snell should be treated as a boom-or-bust proposition across all fantasy formats in a seemingly precarious position on Sunday.

Tue Jun 6 202300:07Blake Snell Handles Cubs For Second Win Of The Year
San Diego Padres left-handed pitcher Blake Snell earned the victory on Monday, allowing just two hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over six innings in a 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs. While free passes continue to be an issue for the 30-year-old southpaw, the eight strikeouts were just one shy of his season-high of nine. He had a lot of swing-and-miss in his arsenal on Monday and limited the Cubbies to just two hits, both of which were singles. The sterling effort lowers his season ERA to 4.06 to go along with a 1.44 WHIP and 69:37 K/BB ratio over 62 innings (12 starts). He'll look to keep things rolling in his next turn against the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.

Mon Jun 5 202314:55Blake Snell Aims To Build On First Scoreless Start Of The Year
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell finally tossed a scoreless game last Wednesday after 11 starts in 2023. The 30-year-old went six innings and struck out seven batters versus the Miami Marlins, but couldn't nab the win as the Padres fell 2-1. Snell takes the ball on Monday against the Chicago Cubs, who he owns an appealing 1.06 ERA in 17 career innings opposing them. The former Cy Young award winner and ERA title holder looks to continue that momentum, but Snell will need to hone his command considering his 13.7% walk rate. Chicago is third in MLB with 3.79 free passes drawn per game as a club. The southpaw owns reverse platoon splits, though, and is worth deploying in season-long leagues in a good spot overall at home against a righty-heavy lineup and Kyle Hendricks. Snell should garner plenty of DFS ownership on a short Monday slate.

Sat May 20 202309:57Blake Snell Hit Hard For Season-High Six Runs
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell was knocked around for six runs in four innings against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, striking out five hitters. The supposed platoon advantage was nonexistent against the lefty-hitting Rafael Devers, who took him deep twice in this one. The former Cy Young award winner has not been stellar at any juncture this year, seeing his ERA stand at 4.61 at its peak. The 30-year-old has faltered under the weight of a tough schedule, having surrendered multiple runs in each start. Snell owns just one win to his 2023 ledger, too. He still has a good shot at jump-starting his campaign against the contact-oriented Washington Nationals lineup on Thursday.

Tue May 2 202300:40Blake Snell Earns First Win Of Season Monday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell finally earned a win in Monday's 8-3 game against the Reds. Snell pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits (including a solo home run) and no walks with seven strikeouts. It was an overall encouraging start, as it was the 30-year-old's first of the season pitching beyond five innings and first without allowing a walk. Snell has been disappointing for fantasy managers this season, going 1-4 with a 5.28 ERA, 10.24 K/9 rate, and 5.59 BB/9 rate. It was a good first step, but Snell will need to prove that he can avoid walking runners before fantasy managers can fully trust him. His next start will be a tough test against the Dodgers, one that fantasy managers may want to avoid if they can.

Mon May 1 202314:53Blake Snell Looking To Start Fresh Monday
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell will take the hill for Monday's matchup with the Cincinnati Reds. He'll be hoping to start showing some positive results, as he's pitched to an 0-4 record, 5.48 ERA, and a 1.87 WHIP so far through five starts (23 innings). Snell's strikeout rate is down to 23.9%, and his walk rate has skyrocketed to 16.5% after posting 32.0% and 9.5% marks, respectively, in 2022. The Reds is the right club for the 30-year-old to gain some confidence, as they own a .695 OPS as a team. Anyways, it might be wise for fantasy managers to sit Snell until he figures things out.

Thu Mar 23 202315:30Blake Snell Lined Up To Start Opening Day
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell appears lined up to take the ball for the team's Opening Day game against the Colorado Rockies next Thursday. Yu Darvish was originally scheduled to start on Opening Day, but concerns about his workload due to the World Baseball Classic will likely push him back. Joe Musgrove (toe) will also miss the first week of the season after breaking his toe in a weight-room accident this spring. The matchup will be a nice one for Snell, but the 30-year-old southpaw has had trouble starting off his seasons on a strong note in the past. He went 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA (2.80 FIP), 1.20 WHIP and 32 percent strikeout rate in 24 starts in 2022 in his second year in SD.

Tue Oct 11 202219:06Blake Snell To Pitch In Game 3 Against Dodgers
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell will get the start in Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Friday at Petco Park against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Snell only lasted 3 1/3 innings in the Game 2 loss to the New York Mets in the Wild-Card Series last Saturday, allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking six and striking out five. The 29-year-old southpaw will need to throw more strikes and be much more efficient if he wants to have a different outcome against a dangerous Dodgers lineup. Snell made three starts against LA in the 2022 regular season and went 0-1 while allowing six earned runs on 12 hits with 10 walks and 23 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. On a positive note, he did throw five shutout frames against them in his most recent outing on Sept. 27.

Thu Oct 6 202218:32Blake Snell To Start Game 2 Of Wild-Card Series
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell will start Game 2 of the Wild-Card Series against the New York Mets on the road on Saturday, the team announced. Right-hander Yu Darvish is getting the ball in the series opener on Friday, while righty Joe Musgrove will most likely toe the rubber in a Game 3 on Sunday, if necessary. Snell was absolutely dominant to close out the regular season, and the 29-year-old finished the year 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA (2.80 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP and a 171:51 K:BB in 128 innings over 24 starts. He went 1-1 in his two starts against the Mets this year, giving up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits while walking five and striking out nine over nine innings pitched.
