Sun Mar 3 201917:48Angels' Pujols wants to have an impact on and off the field
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Albert Pujols had a busy weekend. On Friday, he was in New York at the United Nations to receive an award. On Saturday, he played in a "B'' game on a back field at the Los Angeles Angels' complex, and Sunday, he tuned up for the season by going 3 for 3, including his first spring home run. When Pujols eventually retires from baseball, he wants to be remembered more for what he's done off the playing field rather than his monster home runs.On Friday, the U.N. Women for Peace Association presented its Humanitarian Award to Pujols, wife Deidre and their "Strike Out Slavery" anti-human trafficking group. The Pujols have devoted themselves to fighting human trafficking in the U.S. and around the world."It was an opportunity to receive an award but it's an award that I share with so many people," Pujols said Sunday. "We are just one of the groups of so many people who are fighting against human trafficking. To be honored like that is great but it's something that we share with... [More]

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Danny Farquhar took the mound in a game again. The right-hander got one out and was charged with five runs in an 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates."I felt great out there," Farquhar said. "I was happy to be back on the mound. He is in camp with the Yankees on a minor league deal."The fact that he's on the mound and gotten to this point is pretty awesome," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani tossed his water bottle toward a clubhouse garbage can and missed, instead landing it in a laundry bin. He laughed out loud, smiled big as he so often does, then retrieved the trash and put it in the proper place. That's about as close to throwing as the Japanese two-way star is right now.Ohtani wouldn't change how he handled his elbow injury late last year, continuing to hit for the Angels until season's end even if it meant delaying reconstructive surgery and his ability to pitch again until 2020."I have no regrets about what happened last year. That's what the team thought about me, the plan," Ohtani said through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. "In the end it didn't work out but I still have no regrets."The reigning AL Rookie of the Year is recovering from an Oct. 1 Tommy John surgery with the hope he will be able to bat in the Los Angeles lineup as early as May if all stays on schedule."There's a lot of variables.
